Power Defense Game by SciDev

[raw]
made by SciDev for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

You are looking to buy a house by working online. Make sure your battery life doesn't run out. Otherwise, you lose! In this game, your are trying to keep your phone alive, while making sure your phone battery doesn't break and making sure you don't let hackers steal too much of your battery life.

Instructions:

You are trying to keep your battery life from getting to 0 while upgrading your phone and buying batteries. Your ultimate goal is to buy a house. When you upgrade your phone, you make more money, and your battery life is drained slower. However, your battery will decrease no matter what level phone you are at. You can recharge your battery 0-10 times, (Different battery levels allow more recharges) but once it breaks, you have to buy a new one at Ahmazoon. To make the game harder, there will be hackers that drain your battery life at an inconsistent rate. You can also go to Ahmazoon in order to buy something that makes the hackers drain less battery each time. When you buy your phone, you will receive a question. If you answer the question right, you will get extra money to help you throughout the game. Answer it wrong… and you will have to pay the price. Finally, have fun!

Interesting take on the idle game genre. I don't like idle games to be honest, but the concept is neat.

Interesting game entry. Liked the idea but the waiting for money part while staring at the corner got boring after a while. Good effort!

Cool Idea, good execution ! I felt like recharging while in fast mode made the battery last longer though ?
also an indicator to know when in fast mode would be cool.

Nice, loved the brick phone, totally got me educated a bit since most of the questions I had to google to answer :D But sometimes the battery drained so fast from about 20% that I couldn't even open the shop before it died

the game is fun, but i don't think the questions add anything to it.

Maybe you could add some meta stats increases in between rounds so that once you get far, you don't have to wait around so long in the part of the game you have already seen. Very cool idea though!

I didn't see many idle games on this ludum dare, but the hacker attacks seemed a little too forced at times and all I could do at a point is just buy the weakest battery. Of course, I could just be bad at the game, but I consider there should be some way of working around the wall in the progression of the game. Cool concept though.

I'm not a fan of such idle game genre and I'm not too sure about why the setup is some general questions, but learned some things anyway :)

I like the fast mode but not too sure if it shouldn't be on almost all the time? Music is nice, it can be listen on a loop without bothering.

I think sometimes the battery behavior is a bit weird... not too sure if thats the hackers or a bug, maybe make the hacker attack a bit more obvious to understand why the battery is drained so fast sometimes?

Everything seems to work as expected, well done :)

I like idle games. Good job, the feeling of progression is very good. It makes sense that the "newer" phones discharge super fast. Good job.

Fun game, but the objective felt more like making money than to keep the phone alive

Nice graphics and suited the theme well. I've tried to play with my son, but he lost interest quickly because the battery was being drained fast, even though it was just a can and strings (good one, btw), and it made him nervous and not want to play anymore...

A fun game that takes a bit getting used to! The beginning was a bit slow, but the later parts of the game was really fun and engaging. The grapics were pretty good as was the music. As an improvment, i would add a counter on how many times you could recharge your phone and a indication when in fast mode. Really good take on the theme tho, really felt that you were desperatly trying to keep your phone alive. Overall a great game!

Hey! Nice game. It has a super-clear connection to the theme and a couple of things that are typically needed (and often missing), like in-game instructions and a working UI. It's a basic game with straightforward mechanics that tie in nicely with the theme (and it's a web build!), which I dig.

A couple of basic things would make this better for me:
* Make it so the D-battery (super important!) isn't greyed out - I didn't realize I could buy it.
* Don't have the notifications lay on top of the Amazoon menu (makes it hard to click on stuff)
* More ambient-ish/longer in-game music -- something that loops without being too repetitive
* **Break up the menu into a few slides!** As-is, the rules are a touch overwhelming (even though the game itself is simple)

This is a really good example of a game where the mechanics are simple and complement each other well. While I didn't have a ton of fun playing it, I appreciate how clean it is, and the thoughtful touches (pausing while you're buying stuff) that make it feel like a real (non-jam) game.

Nice idea and fun to play. It was a bit hard after I failed a question and the batteries started draining really fast, and the money weren't coming fast enough to buy a new phone or a better battery.

Nice game! Made it to the flip phone, then I moved away from my keyboard and the battery ran out before I could reach the button again
