Welcome to Lost Island! You are:

chara.png

A traveller who sails from port to port, discovering new and exciting lands. One day, on one of your travels, you stumble upon a small island that appears deserted, decrepit and lifeless. Despite all of this, you see some potential and take it upon yourself to bring new life to this land. - Explore every nook and corner and collect tools, such as an axe, a lighter and some seeds. - Cut down dead trees, plant new ones, light up some torches, and watch as the island slowly gets more and more colourful. - Pay attention to the clock - you need to head back to the docks and sail home every night.

Have fun and thank you for keeping the Lost Island alive! :island:

Not so much 'keep it alive', as 'bring it back to life', but a fun game nonetheless! Very polished and simple game play loop done well. My only criticism is that the grid-based movement feels a bit strange at first; almost floaty.

At first I thought "a bit gray" - but yes - it looks nice and is different to the other islands I saw in the game section!

Cool game. I had a hard time figuring out how to switch my item, and I kept accidentally exiting from the "pause" menu.

The art and music are nice, but I don't know how to cut down trees. Where do I get an axe? Also, the controls are not mentioned anywhere. WASD to move is easy to pick up, but I can't figure out the rest of the controls.

I really liked the game, but couldn't figure out how to equip the different tools I found. Next time you should probably put a tutorial or in the description, a list of the buttons/action you can take.

Love the music and the artwork! The controls seem to stick a little bit when moving in a direction. Enjoyed how the island gets progressively move vibrant!

The music and graphics are great, but the gameplay feels incomplete. This would be great with post-jam work done on it :)

Really nice and cute game! I really enjoyed the graphics and watching the island slowly start to gain colour - the music changes as the days progress is a really nice touch as well!

It took me a while to figure out you had to place the seeds in the big boxes, and I also couldn't find a way to switch between my items (the only way I could do it was by using my mouse to switch them around?).

All in all, I enjoyed the game, and I think it has a lot of potential if you ever feel like adding more to it - Great work!

It's lovely and peacefull! Love the mood, the music, etc. It's quite hard to figure out how to plant seeds but once you know it, it's nice! Really a nice entry, I liked it.

An in-game helper when you pick up your second tool could be helpful to remind how to switch between tools. I had to restart the game to read the tutorial again.

Really nice idea, could play this continuously. The returning home feature is a bit of a pain as I couldn't get to the far side of the island and back in one day. Wanted to make everything colourful. Really nice feeling of progression.

Loved the time I spent with it! The first few days where I was exploring the island, finding my way around the games mechanics, and seeing the colour slowly return to the world were honestly magical. I think the fact that I didn't know about the colour changing going in really added to that moment.

As it went on I found the days to get a little repetitive, especially towards the end where I had to go from one end of the island to the other just to water two trees. I would love to have kept playing if there was more to do. Perhaps talking to the octopus-people that live on the island would have been a great addition - give them something new to say each day. But, I know it was a jam game and scope is a big issue. Please keep working on this though, you've got something really great here!

The only other thing I would address are the controls. They worked, but felt very clunky. It's as if there was a small delay between me changing which direction I was pressing, and then the character actually going that way. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but should definitely be fixed up.

Overall though, great job!

The monochromatic theme changing into the colorfull one is a really good idea and works perfectly for this game

I figured out the confusing item selection eventually (drag item into first slot) but then my axe somehow moved out of the item box and on top of a torch where I couldn't pick it up again. Pressing a key to cycle through items would have been much better.

Apart from some gameplay and level designe issues, it's a nice little game! The art is cute, the music well fitting and relaxing. I enjoyed playing through. Like some other mentionned, you could make a quite nice post-jam update to make it complete.

Little things that could be improved to make it more fun :
- **Key bindings information in game** would be nice. I came from itch.io, and couldn't figure out the inventory at all, even after trying every key.
- **Looping music** between days? The last track is beautiful, a shame it goes silent when going home.
- **Key for inventory items**. Using mouse seemed really counter-intuitive at first, even if I got used to it, could be nice. Or maybe mouse scrolling. Drag-and-drop, while efficient in the end, doesn't really fit the style imo.
- **Longer days**. It takes a while to go from on point of the island back to the boat, and that's okay. But the time passes very fast, and it takes *forever* to chop down a tree. Considering the amount of trees...
- if not longer days, **faster tree chopping**. It took me far too many days to cut all the trees.
- **Less seeds** or **more tree planting**. A bit of a shame we cannot plant tree wherever we want, but understandable. I had gathered more than 3 stacks of seeds by the end, and only used a very low amount. (If more tree planting, and not longer days, maybe shorten watering too?)
- It took me a while to figure out that the watercan was actually not for **waterings and growing the flowers**. Could be a nice addition!
- **Endgame**. It was enjoyable that the world evolved as days went by, but a bit of a disappointement that nothing happened when every task was completed.

I noticed two places where a patch of grass is missing, I think : to the north, and to the far east.
