Loop Frogs by GaryS

Loop Frogs
Loop Frogs is a puzzle platformer where your two frogs must work together to reach the exit. Green can loop through the same actions again and again, and Brown can use this to clear the way, reach higher platforms and get to the exit.
Controls
- 2-button gamepad support
- Keyboard:
- AD / cursors - Move
- , or SPACE - Jump
- . or ENTER - Switch
- Alternative layout:
- QD (azerty)
- AE (dvorak)
Known bugs
~~We're aware of a physics issue where sometimes green frog's loop doesnt exactly match, and perhaps won't make a specific jump in subsequent loops. From what I understand this is a known issue to do with delta smoothing on each update. We're looking into possible solutions, but until then it doesn't really detract from the fun of the game - just start a new loop and all will be well. Ribbit.~~
*Mostly fixed... Enjoy!!

@ninnec You can use SPACE to jump and ENTER to switch character. Or actually, Numpad 0 will work too if you're using cursors...
Best played on a joypad though, I've found. ;)
I really liked that the game has controller support, because it felt way better than on the keyboard.
All in all I had fun time playing. And I loved the simplicity of pixel art)
I started the game not knowing how you could possibly fit the theme in. It's incredible guys...
And it's not lacking anything in my opinion.
You're my favorite so far.
Good job
I do think that the way the burner obstacle was used in large numbers in straight paths was mostly dragging out the solutions however, not a compelling way to design the levels.
The strong and clean presentation makes up for it tho, I would definitely try another version with improved puzzles.
Didn't know about the double jump, so took me a while on one of the levels.
Very good entry.
There were times when it seemed that the green frog doesn't follow a new loop I set for it and reverts to the first loop so I had to redo the loop I wanted to set. But other than that, I really enjoyed playing the game.
Good entry.
Congratulations.
I'm a huge fan of strategy/puzzle games that involve time and control. This mechanic completely nails that!
Not sure I have much criticism or feedback. The art style is solid and cute. The button mechanics and accompanying sound design works.
I also like the sounds the frogs make, especially when they die.
A few times I ran into a bug where the green frog's actions didn't follow what I did exactly - I wasn't able to tell why. Must be a discrepancy somewhere between how the frog responds to your inputs versus the saved inputs. Only happened now and then, though, so not that big a deal.
Nice take on the "looping actions" mechanic, and great work overall.
all in all another great entry. Keep it up!
While confusing at first (is any mechanic introduced this LD not confusing?), I really loved the creative way to rethink a puzzle platformer! Once you get the jist, it is an extremely fun, enjoyable and rewarding ride!
What I particularly loved was the death sound of frog_green :D One thing I'd have to nitpick is that the hurtbox of the firethrower is disabled a bit later than the animation implies, which makes the level with the line of them a tad bit frustrating (I personally went with the slow route for that level for that very reason).
Other than that though, I really feel this is on the level of an actual demo, not just a jam game. Thank you for bringing us this game u_u.
From a high concept point of view I loved this game. A pair of frog friends where one is relatively useless, and another one who can casually time travel and jump much higher. Sooooo good. In fact it's pretty unique cuz most games try to have both characters be somewhat powerful in their own right, but here Brown just mooches haha.
Like @duke said, there's quite a bit of entries like this this LD, but your overall execution does make it stand out and made me not feel theme fatigue here. Even the tutorial was presented very well and in line with the world.
Gameplay aside, the game is also very polished. The graphics are superb, and the audio is so funny, I kept making the frogs die on purpose and it was hilarious!
I like the graphics and the mechanics is simple yet effective :)
that silly sound when frogs get burnt made me laugh a bunch of time xD
(I liked the sounds of frogs)
· There's a bug that causes the green frog not to do exactly the same and is a bit frustrating, but totally understandable.
· I liked the frog animations, and it was a fun experience.
Good job!
(Thanks for the AZERT layout support )
@sophiemae0 I've never heard of the Frog and Toad books but I can see the similarity. :)
Thanks for submitting your game!
I was also slightly confused by the banner at first; I thought it was an extension of the gameplay window because they're so close. Maybe some slight space or a border would help separate them?
Really liked the theme/idea though, and it's very visually appealing.
Remember The Lost Vikings. Good Job
It's very inventive distribution of roles: one frog is light and bouncy while the other is fat and clumsy
I had a lot of fun playing this, good job! I would play more levels if they are added someday.
(very liked sound effects by the way ;D)
I was really laughing with their wails when they died also :joy:

I wish there was a way to restart the loop earlier, because sometimes I miss the window and have to wait the end of loop.
The graphics are amazing. The animations are polished and smooth. I like the arcade-style of the buttons.
The mechanics are great, original but simple and understandable.
It fits the theme. Overall: 5 stars.
Jumping over fires sometimes got me on edge a bit (I'm not a big platformer gamer). But I do think it all works quite well together :D!
Nicely done. Cool concept.
The art is gorgeous and the sound works perfectly, and I found the frogs' animations and sounds really funny hahaha.
The hop-sounds were a little "noisy", if you get what I mean. They sounded a little low quality recording like they were coming from an old phone. They were perfectly functional, just felt like a little bit of a bad fit for the rest of the game, when everything else was so polished.
I also somehow confused the buttons several times, but that's more on me than the game
Really happy to have played this
my only issue is having the platforming elements. I think it should be just a puzzle game IMO
especially if this ever made it to mobile :)
great job otherwise!
the platforming (particularly jumping over tall fire) was a bit challenging/frustrating to me, and I really really didn't care the sound effects of jumping, for some reason they made me feel pretty uncomfortable.
Is there a way to restart/reset a level? I couldn't figure out any way to, which was also kind of frustrating.
Overall, great job, your idea was awesome and your execution was was solid, just some nitpicks / user friendly things.
