light. by Szivacs

[raw]
made by Szivacs for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Made by Greg Varadi

Once the light of the sun faded away. There was darkness, but one light orb remained alive. Its mission is to reach the sun and bring back the light. You need to help this orb to complete the mission.

I always wanted to participate in a Ludum Dare jam. Finally I had time to do so. I hope everyone likes this game. Obviously because of the time frame, this game is really simple in terms of gameplay.

This is actually part of the compo event, so everything in this game was made by me including art, music and sound effects. Also the source code to the unity project is available below.

Because we are still in this covid-19 situation, I wish the best for everyone here. Be strong and stay safe.

I tryed to cheat by holding an obstacle in front of the light, but I ended up running into it and losing…

otherwise, bravo for this game, it's beautiful

Did not expect such a tough game. I loved it though, the atmoshpere created by the soundtrack and the visuals kept me playing until I've managed to finish it in, like, my 15th try.
Cool game!

Among all the games i've tested, this is the most "keep it alive" urge feeling that i got, clever design. The atmosphere is excellent thanks to the nice graphics and the adequate ambient music. The mood is excellent. Really nice entry !

Really love the aesthetic! Sound effect was really soothing and fit the theme of the game. I really liked the simple mechanic but I thought the constantly moving camera and lack of indication when click to move the obstacle make it a bit frustrating. But overall, really polished and solid entry! Great job!

It is both beautiful and serene. Excellent use of the platform and the lighting. I'd have liked the audio to provide some sense of the danger, perhaps overlaying sounds or changing something subtly as the orb gets close to objects. Perhaps due to this and to not really understanding my progress towards the level goal or my remaining life, I found myself not as motivated to keep playing as I might have been had I managed to finish some shorter levels first to feel like I was capable of achieving something.

It feels very polished in execution and very smooth to play - I like it a lot.

Nice dev log. Thank you for the explanations. I like how the gameplay is simple but yet just works.

I really liked this. The atmosphere was great and I loved how the audio responded to hitting obstacles. I'd have liked to have a better idea of how many more hits I could take before the light was destroyed.
My main problem though was that moving the obstacles was a little hit and miss... sometimes it seemed that the game hadn't registered my mouseclick. It's probably that I missed the hit area, but perhaps if there was a subtle highlight on the obstacle when the mouse is over the hit area that might improve the experience.
Solid entry though, very good.

I'm glad you took the time to participate in LD. Although the game is very simple, I think it worked great. I would like to see what you can do in more than 48 hours.

I really enjoyed the look of this and wanted to keep going with it but I did struggle with the obstacles a bit. Having the item moving while I was trying to move it myself was a bit difficult. Really beautiful look with the shadows too. Congratulations.

The concept is awesome, visuals and music as well, it is a bit tough sometimes cause I can't really notice the obstacles. But the attmosphere was great and it seems really polished. Congrats for this awesome entry! :ok_hand:

Really cool and moody game! I loved how the music corresponds with the collisions. Would be nice if you could get some visual Feedback on the status of the orb, maybe it could slightly become smaller with every hit?
Great concept, thanks for the experience!

Cool aesthetic and sound design. I wish there was better damage indication. Also, the dragging seemed a bit finicky and frustrating. Overall nice work!

Really well polished, gorgeous looking and excellent, atmospheric music. I did find it a bit hard to grab the obstacles, but overall I can hardly believe that this is a compo entry, it's amazing!
