TIME TO DANCE! by Savvy Community

[raw]
made by Savvy Community for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Hey friend! Wanna dance? Well I guess you came to the right place!

Grab a prop, get comfy and show the world your dance moves! You can even make some human friends in there! Be careful though, this place is supposed to be 'A.I. only' I hope you'll figure out a way to spot them so you can leave them be!

TIME TO DANCE! is a game about moves, and A.I. and humans getting along on the Dancefloor.

You'll need only your mouse to play this.

Your feedback is more than welcome!

See you around ;)

The music is cool. Like the concept and art! But it is little bit hard to get from the start what you need to do actually. Or maybe it's just me, who is not smart :DDD
All in all great job! Loved the customization.

Such a fantastic idea- are the user dances actually stored in a database? If so, that's really amazing.

@ventz @pink-shard-games @w0nk4 @jrevel @khadia @coding4rtist thank you so much guys <3, it means a lot to us!

@jonah you're absolutely right, we noticed too late that it was going be an issue! Thank you so much for the nice words  (turing test indeed: https://twitter.com/savvy_community/status/1312429816428273666)

@tamail thank you! Making games in a short time has become kind of our specialty! We're planning on producing a "real" game, now that we have some (enough?) xp to do so :)

@vlandemart @hank-ather thank you guys! Every choreography you created is indeed stored in the database and all the players (including you) got a chance to encounter it as a "human" later in the game :) (ATM there are a lot of "fwd", "ffffff" etc... because we devs have sent lots of dancers while testing ^^)

@kyontyan thank you so much! We don't think you're not smart, it may be a bit confusing at the beginning :) but anyway losing a few times is fiiine if it's what it takes to understand the goal ^^

@nohua thank you, we're glad too :)!

@dangerblack thanks! We like the idea of a competition too, for now we just might do a choreography tournament, with open votes on twitter (you're in?? what is your in-game pseudo ;) ?)

@fishmasterino thank you so much! You're right! We had issues in the past with synchronizing multiple audio looping tracks, and we REALLY wanted an incrementally powerful music from round to round :)

thank you all again for the kind words

This game is so cool! I wanted to try it for the last view hours and finally I had some time :D

This is a very unique take on the theme, I like it a lot. The graphics are cute and the music is catchy. The fact that users can interact is a very cool touch! How did you do that? Do you have a database somewhere?

Awesome game! Came from your blog post. It took a while for me to figure out what was happening, but after the first couple rounds I really got into it! The only thing that might make this better, is making the dancers ragdolls, I feel like that would be really funny XD. Best rating I've given a game so far, awesome job!

Got to say, this is an interesting take in "spot the difference" games, and a hilarious one to boot. The dancing animations are just undiluted joy to watch, and I really liked making my own too. I can't give this game enough praise, although I do think I found a lot of duplicates in my playthroughs. Still, had a blast with those animations and tunes!

Best wishes, and keep on jammin'! 🐳

The game is very nice in different category :
* The concept and introduction are nice and funny.
* The interpreation of the theme is nice. I like this simple but efficient "puzzle" game.
* The artworks and animations are very good.
* The music fits perfectly the ambiance.

All in all, it gives a feeling of a well finished, complete and polished game.

I take fun to play. Congratulations ! :)

Wow this one is incredible.

The idea behind the core mechanic is fantastic, and so well executed. It is really funny, and not as easy as it could seem at first.
The music and sounds are fantastic too.

@moski thank you very much! Oh you appear to have found Mika... Well, it's complicated... Mika's not really the name of a player, nor are they an A.I. per se... Something in between the two.. Some of us were really surprised to encounter them while testing the game... They're something rather unique!

@fragileannihilator thank you so much  during the past 18 months we made jam games in limited time to improve our game-making skills, methodology, and try fun concepts and innovative game mechanics. As an experience jammer yourself, you must agree that there's no savvier way to gain some precious XP! The plan is now to try and make "real" games in a limited but longer time!

@madnesssguschenka Thank you so much! We always spend a third of the total time just talking about the concept and what we want to do *this time* ^^. We always take good care to make games that feel good!

@doot many thanks! Stuck in a Soup Loop is on our list of games to play :)!

@savvy-community Thanks for the comment. Still tho, now I'm super curious, since I remember not encountering anyone *but* Mikas in that playthrough. I thought at a point that the game just glitched, or that someone called Mika submitted a ton of those.

12. Oct 2020 · 02:05 UTC
@savvy-community my in-game pseudo is "Danidre"

Once I finish the introduction? Is there an end? Every time I finish it seemingly, it carried me back to the option of choosing my own dance moves, and then I had to choose between AI and human again, then another set of dance moves, then choose between AI and human again over and over. I thought that was the loop, as I kept making new moves, I thought that was it

I wonder if that was maybe a bug, I'll definitely have to play over the game some time.

I love this game and find it really pleasant to play - beeing a dance teacher myself  Nice job! The music was lit, there was a big variety of dance moves and the idea of finding the humanoid dancers was superb.

Only downside I could think of is:
- There was no unique interpretation of the theme, instead you took the theme literally.
- The white font had no good contrast with the light blue background which made it hard to read the instructions. But that was a minor issue in my opinion.

Nice entry!

Great game, and a fantastic interpretation of the theme. It's not often you see multiplayer games in Ludum Dare! It's a bit of a pain having to create a new dancer every round, but I'm guessing the reasoning behind it is that if you keep getting matched with the same people, and they always have the same appearance and dance moves, it would make it way too easy to spot them.

I really loved the ambiance, and the way the music evolved as you found more and more of your human friends. I look forward to seeing more from you guys!

18. Oct 2020 · 20:53 UTC
Great job guys! The gameplay is simple once you get the hang of it but still enjoyable despite it, so it really works!

I think my only request would be that IMHO the dance floor should include the player-character as well (unclickable), so that you can have an animated visual of the choreographed dance moves that you just came up with. Right now (if I understand correctly) you never actually get to see your own dance in action -- it's just sent to the server so that it can be shown to other people. Which is cool, but I think there would be more of an incentive and "reward" for people to put in effort if they are able to view it themselves. On the later levels I found myself just leaving the dance at random because I knew it wouldn't really affect my own experience, but I feel like with this change I would be motivated to put in my own custom dance moves since getting to see them in action would be really fun :)

This has got to be one of the most creative submissions I’ve seen. It’s got good music and a good mood, cute characters, and a mechanic of finding the human submission that is looping against AI is really cool. I don’t have any suggestions to improve it, it’s awesome.

@sn4pi Thank you so much for your feedback, the contrast problem is indeed a bit annoying! 😅

@f1krazy Wow, thanks a lot, it's always nice to hear such positive feedback! Yeah we also think the 4 rounds of character creation are maybe a bit too much, resulting with seeing the same name over and over again ahah. However, we won't change this kind of thing/bug since the feedback we get will be helpful for a future game we will do :). Thank you again, and since you're interested in seeing our future projects, feel free to follow us on twitter ➡️ https://twitter.com/savvy_community . Cheers!

@jenny-bourke @dcrdro @dani-tufeld @sli @drjexter Thank you so much guyz!!

@ddrkirbyisq Oh thank you so much for your useful and precious feedback! That's actually a really good idea, as you say, it may be a bit frustrating to create your character 4 times and not see it right after its creation. You can actually see it but later in the game since its randomly generated. Thank you again :D

This game is really fun! It is a little easy and the game does look a bit odd with the font and the art not going together too well. I love the idea of being able to send your own dance to other people and have them try to guess if it's a loop! Great use of the theme!

Hey @itsdanidre we never answered you about 'Mika'! We had plans to make something huge out of them in the post-jam version but we didn't in the end... So let's explain what they are now! So first, as you know there are 2 types of npcs in the game: the looping human ones, and the random a.i ones. 'Mika' is a third kind of npc that is looping like a human... but their loop is randomly generated like an a.i! We realized afterwards that we let this 'fake-human generator' in the code in case the game wouldn't connect to the database in time for some reason! Mika is an a.i imitating humans in the game, but except for their name, it's impossible (and useless) to consider them other than human! We liked this plot twist a lot and thought of ways to make them part of our gameplay or scenario but had no time to do so in the end...
