I could not complete the level 4, too hard for me :) but I liked

Nice Game. Maybe replace the green circles with a edible food item?

Well done. The main problem I see is that the UI buttons only respond to the mouse, while gameplay is on the keyboard (and takes both hands), so switching between them can be tedious, and not fast enough for some levels.

Pretty fun and challenging, but a lot of the difficulty came from not being able to see the level layout until the game unpaused for each level. Level 5 was a bit too much for me. Also, I was expecting some sort of "smoking kills" joke when I saw the dog with the cig, but it never appeared.

Good idea with some well executed puzzles. I managed to beat all 5, though I needed to think a bit on levels 3-5.

Though I would echo some of the concerns above with controls. I expected K and L to be the other way around - K should be anti clockwise, L clockwise.

Having to go back to the mouse every-time I reset is bothering too. Reset the level when SPACE pressed?

Cool idea. Would have liked the ability to restart with the enter key, since it was hard to go from the mouse to the specific buttons quickly.

Nice concept. Don't want to repeat what others have said, but many of the failure is due to me having to click before going back to keyboard. Adding a SPACE to restart would really make the game more enjoyable :D

This is neat! I think I have the same complaint as everyone else, as switching to mouse and QUICKLY back to extremely specific keys on the keyboard is kind of tough, also music resetting is a bit annoying, but it's a cool concept and done pretty well!

Nice game! I managed to finish the game, but it would have been nice if there was some easier way of restarting a level, it was a bit tedious to always move hands from keyboard to mouse and then back to keyboard fast so the balls dont fall :)

Wow - this has some realy good 'chill' vibes. The music is prtty good, I think a light drum in the background would add a lot. The graphics are prety good, too. Some of those levels took a minute to figure out how to do, but it was worth it for the joke at the end. Poor dog. Good luck for your remaining time! Smoking kills.

Nice job! Took a bit of getting used to but managed to complete all the levels and overall it was a pretty satisfying journey. Liked the humour element to it as well. Would agree with the others that the mouse to keys transition was difficult but it's manageable after a few go's :D

Liked the concept, really helped when I realized you could use space to restart. Maybe a countdown timer or a button to release the balls would be nice. This way you could analyze the level a bit before. Loved the smoking dog:)

The controls are a bit hard to get used to and sometimes food goes into the cage without registering (i gues it needs to touch the dog?). But a nice idea and i don't know if it's intentional but the fact that you can go to the next level even if you didn't actually win the current level is pretty handy for a jam game.
scifi6546
19. Apr 2020 · 19:49 UTC
The concept was nice and the puzzles were pretty fun. The controll scheme could use some improvement though. Maby have a rotation tool kinda like what blender has and basically build in an animation editor into the game? BTW that is awesome for a 48 hour game jam.

@generalsturgeon The countdown timer is a reallyy good idea and would probably make the game much more enjoyable. In the time remaining of this compo I won't be able to make this but I might add it if I come back to the game after ludum dare 46 is over.

19. Apr 2020 · 20:10 UTC
@szivacs Yeah I completely get what you mean and I also don't like it when other games restart the music every time. THis is cool, I like the Bennett Foddy-esque deliberately foreign controls. I'd like for this game to have me desperately reaching all over keyboard for foreign and strange combinations. Also smkoing dogs, nice work. Tricky to get them to do it and I've only achieved it a handful of times! Keep it up.

It would be cool to add more platforms so it becomes more and more difficult (or/and randomize the keys each time) and you should make the UI respond to the keyboard so its easier to retry :)

Cute little game! Interesting core mechanic, and the last two levels start getting interesting. I liked the dogs head bobbing.

The sound was a little loud, jarring, and dissonant. Just needs a little polish probably, something to keep in mind for next time.

The ending blurb got a chuckle out of me.

Oh, also, you need to change the name of the game in the unity build settings, right now its 'Pet Game' in the bottom bar.

Nice level design, 4th level was really well done! I like how it felt like you could solve levels multiple ways (sometimes you could flip the treats really far and do things that I don't think were originally intended but as a player that made me feel like I had more power!

One bit of feedback is it would have been nice to be able to choose when the level starts (maybe on key press?) so you're not scrambling to find the right keys after clicking something.

I for one would like to adopt poor smoking doggo and get him clean and give him all the food he could enjoy.

I like the concept but I do find the tone of the game a bit deary. THe controls are smooth but you do have a limited amount of time to orient yourself with a level as it begins. A delay to the balls coming into "action" so to say would be great.

I did really like level 3 for it's (at least to me) pinball-esque design. Thanks for letting us play!

I like the puzzle mechanic. The only thing I didn't like is that the levels began too fast. I needed to hit K/L before I had time to bring my hand back from the mouse. A keyboard button to start and re-try the level could resolve that.

I love it. I love the smoking dog. I love the simple music loop. Actually really like the gameplay. As for what I find less stellar I am sure its no shock to you to hear that the graphics are pretty lacking. The controls can be hard to figure out. I wish there was a bit of time on the first level for the player to read the instructions you have written. I managed to beat all levels. I do wish that you had picked diffrent keys to control the game with XC and KL where weirdly hard for my hands to remember where they are on the keyboard.

I like how xc and kl do different things, I thought it was going to be 2 rotators. The whole time I was wondering why the dog was smoking -- nice twist.

As feedback, I'd try not to have the music restart everytime. Also, I was using spacebar to restart the level since it's very comfortable. If I beat the level I'd like it to take me to the next one, not restart.

The thug life dog really got me at the beginning; almost made me believe I was feeding him weed!

One recommendation though, I feel like the controls could be flipped to make them a bit more intuitive. L makes the platform tilt to the right whereas K makes it tilt left - if it were flipped, it would make a lot more sense.

Nonetheless, interesting puzzle game!

Congrats on your game! The aesthetic is so dark and depressing, so gg on nailing that. I felt as though I had to save the lil pupper with every fiber of my being. :)

kl flips the paddles opposite of how I would expect. People will expect k to be counterclick-wise and l to be clockwise. If you complete the level then press space it restarts the level, which is very annoying as it happened to me on every level, sometimes multiple times per level.

My very first time at a level always resulted in failture because I needed time to get my fingers on the proper keys after having clicked the mouse, and then the time needed to assess the level. I think it would be nice to have the ability to choose when the food dropped for the pupper.

The music restarting every menu / level / restart is a bit bothering. Not sure how this is done in Unity, but it'd be nice if the music was just continuously in the background. This usually makes a big difference in games where restarting / advancing levels is often.

I don't know if this was intended or not, but boy were the controls wonky to use. The concept was fine, but it was really awkward to switch from using the mouse to click the UI to having to quickly swap to the keyboard, using unusual keys no less, to control the game. I think I'd lose every level the first time because I couldn't get my hands in the right place fast enough. I think either having a small countdown at the start of each level would fix this, otherwise maybe switching the keys to something easier to use like WASD or arrow keys.

Really innovative approach to a puzzle game! One thing that bothered me a little was the rotation using K and L, it seemed backwards to me, but other than that very interesting!

Controls are hard to reach. Making them in the same area or static would be great.

Simple but well done. I think that your core gameplay mechanic is great but you have to enhance it with better music and better graphism

Nice concept, I finished the game. Maybe a little timer before each level to have the time to analyse the puzzle can be a nice improvement:).

Good puzzle solving game! Love the artwork on the dog. The game was a bit too hard for my simple brain, but I enjoyed it none the less!!!
I think to improve the game a countdown timer would be great to add on the pressure or even work as a score board.

Finished the game. This is one of the games that gave you an idea of life: "Don't forget guys smoking is bad!"

I would love to get some backstory on that dog lol. Liked it! Maybe make the sound object a singleton, music restarting everytime you change a screen or restart gets annoying after some time hehe. Other than that, neat game!

@ytaha that's some valuable feedback! The dog is basically one of those assholes who wear sunglasses inside and smokes even when being around children. Thanks for the kind words!

I mean. The dog smokes, this is the easiest 5/5 I've given in humor and fun so far. Nice job, graphics are simple but effective.

The puzzle mechanic is very interesting and quite tricky, and the smoking dog is brilliant! Too depressive for me, bcs I don't like seeing lonely pets and all that staff, but its not a games's problem, the game is really cool.

Pretty fun puzzle game. I found the controls a bit counter intuitive - I made it to level 5. Loved the dog sprite!

The game needs to be a lot more polished as graphics and audio could be so much better, but overall it was fun.

This game is the proof that for a game jam you don't need fanciness, you need a good concept and solid gameplay. There is basically no graphics, only the dog, but has a lot of content and a very original concept, with a well implemented gameplay. Well done.
