Pandamonium

A cute ~~incomplete~~ Sims-like game that revolves around Pandas working for a game studio and chasing their dreams.

This was my first time trying to make a game for the web in JS. Certainly not my best entry (and definitely my sloppiest as far as code is concerned LMAO), but I learned a lot.

I'd consider this more of a prototype or proof-of-concept than anything, it didn't really turn out the way I would've liked. I'm not happy with the gameplay and honestly I'll probably make a post-jam version soon.

CONTROLS: - WASD to move - G to switch Pandas - Arrow keys to navigate Food menus - Space to confirm

SPACE BAMBOO CONTROLS: - A and D to move - Space to shoot - Escape to pause

WHAT DO I DO? - You pretty much just keep your pandas alive (easier said than done). Get a job, make enough money to feed your household, and buy a mansion!

TO STREAMERS: - I suggest putting on some background music, as the game has basically no audio. I'll probably make a small post-jam version with music and such soon.

KNOWN ISSUES/QUIRKS: - Last names in the Panda creation screen don't carry over to the rest of your Pandas unless you manually upload them. This is intentional. - Happiness doesn't really affect anything, just didn't have time to implement it. - You can't visit neighbors. - Hospital is pointless. - Input scheme is kinda inconsistent. - Physics may break on obscure devices/browsers.

~~I almost want to say this is basically an unfinished entry, but hey, pencils down~~

If you get a 503 when you go to play the game, Tweet me KP_CFTSZ and I'll try to get it fixed up ASAP.

Oh also, the TV in the game was made by TheChaseExp, go check him out!

Very nice concept! Was a bit confusing at first, but fun once I figured it out.

Haha, what a fun and ambitious game! Doesn't happen often that a LD game has another mini-game :D Unfortunately one of my pandas died just as I was reaching auto-work hehe. You already mentioned some shortcomings, I'm sure it's mostly about spending more time on it to make this really fun. I especially loved the eating animation, I wish it had some sound effects when the pandas are crunching.

My 3rd 5* rating. A great game with fun interactions and tasks. Animations and cutscenes were cute and it matches the theme. Very good job!

The graphics are fantastic! The idea of multitasking seems fun too. Can't wait to see this post-jam!

Awesome game, it was pretty fun to play! I wish there was more of an indicator of when your pandas are dying, I remember i was playing space bamboo and as soon as i got out, someone died D:. Overall it was great though!

Great name for a game!

Well done on getting something done. I enjoyed eating the shoots and the art style is super cute.

Might be good if it was easier to tell the pandas apart and the only other thing was the diagonal lines when I was eating were a bit glary. Great concept though.

An impressive amount of work went into this, really good game! Great concept, great graphics. I couldn't get out of Space Bamboo Beta after getting 100 shoots, though.

...and that's one realistically long toilet flush, do approve.

lol, graphics are really nice. idea of pandas earning money haha. I liked the flush sound over no sound at all .. it gives that particular sound a big importance XD

Controls are confusing tho, for some selection I have to use mouse, for moving and others AWSD but then AWSD didn't work and I have to use arrows keys.
For this type of game I would suggest to remove the mouse at all and let AWSD and ArrowKeys doing same for every input including moving the panda.

Not sure by your strikethrough if I played a post-compo or not, if you did a post-compo, I would appreciate setting up a different link just to fear with others ;)

Cheers for getting a game in a weekend!

Starved to death playing video games about bamboo. 10/10 would test again.

This was really great it made me so sad when one of my pandas died! I think my biggest criticism is that it was a little confusing what the goal was or what I should be doing.

The graphics were perfect I think all the pixel art was great and the background on the eating screen was really trippy and cool. I also do think eating took a bit too many hits to get through it its a cool concept to make the player actually control through eating but maybe just a little quicker would be good.

The control scheme in general was also a bit of a miss for me, I felt like i needed 3 hands as some aspects were wasd controlled, some were arrow keys and some were mouse controlled I think using two of those at most would be better, and just more consistency in general I think if wasd controls the player it should probably also contorl the menus.

Great game, really cool concept I would definitely play it again!

It seems like I'm not able to do anything, after buying a house. I can move the panda around, but nothing else seems to work.

@pjnovas Not a post-compo, like I said in the post I intend to make one later though so I can add sfx. Glad you liked it! I can agree the input scheme is kinda wonky

This game was fun, but i couldn't fugure out how to switch pandas unless the auto-worked. Still very clever.

I understood I had to play all pandas after reaching auto work with my first auto selected panda. Damn.
This game made me laugh, panda are exactly just like us it seems!

Biiig fan of this one, such a polished look and so much implemented for a 48 jam.
Obviously a bit more variation on the 'work' would help make it more fun to play longer, and it was a bit spammy - my hand hurt after a few minutes of hitting space bar over and over  .. a hold space to auto-shoot would be appreciated.

I loved watching the TV seeing Panda news! And playing the game within a game as a tester was fun. I was sad there wasn't that much to do but I would love to see an expanded version with audio and more activities.

I also liked there was one audio track I could find... Flush!

You already explained the weak points of the game in your own description so not much else I can add.

First of all thank you for your realy nice comment, that realy made my day
And secondly, your game is amazing xD I know it's incomplete but I love so much about it. The game feels realy like the good old Sims games and the bamboo eating mini game is just awesome. Also the UI and the world map are on point. I can't wait to see where your journey takes you next.

A really stylish game! The UI was handled really well, other than the inconsistent controls as you've already mentioned. ;) This game could be spectacular when you've added the other things on your to-do list!

Great job, keep making games!

The graphics are easily the best part of this game, but it's very obviously not complete. Good start, though.

Wow, it's great, your art is so cute. There's a lot of attention to detail, I loved the news playing on the TV.

Gorgeous pixel art in a fun game! I particularly love the eating mechanics: smashing space bar to eat bamboo :D. Also humor points went to top with the seemingly neverending toilet flush sample.

Beautiful game here. Once I figured out the auto-work thing and figured out my goal was to buy a mansion I was on it. Loved the ending btw. Good entry!
