Golem Quest by celia14

[raw]
made by celia14 for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Your golem obeys your every command... but you only have a handful of glyphs to command it with. But those glyphs can do a lot, since your golem loops through the glyphs you summon it with.

Pick the right glyphs to puzzle your way through 9 levels and find the rare Golem Grimoire.

How to play * Modify the glyphs assigned to the golem in the left panel by clicking to add or remove different glyphs. * When you're ready, click Summon and the golem will start looping through your commands. * Reach the portal in each level to progress. * Crystals: You must collect all of them before you can enter the portal. * Broken floors: The golem can only cross them once. * New glyphs: If you find one, you can use it in that level - just update the assigned glyphs and re-summon the golem.

Really cute game, the art is very nice and I love the purple hue, and the gameplay concept is quite good, though I was a bit confused as to how it worked, at first. I also wish the Golem would perhaps move a little faster and not stand still when it's done with a command. It was a little tedious waiting for it on Level II, otherwise great job :)

Beat the game! Similar to other programming type robot games. The breakable floor was a nice addition. Would've loved some way to speed up the playback, and a quick way to reset the level so that I can study the layout instead of emptying the grimoire wheel. Regardless, good entry!

Here's some of the solutions for the later levels, disguised with a poor attempt at spoiler tags.

Neat programming game! I really like the graphics, with just the right amount of detail and a constrained yet very expressive color palette. I feel like sometimes I was more bruteforcing than actually thinking ahead what was going to happen, even though that may be my own fault. I think the breakable floors are a really interesting part because they force the player to think ahead and allow you to create a more complex level design without requiring a bigger space. Congrats!

I had the a similar idea, but your execution is very different. Among the "set up a loop and watch it run" games, this is the most polished.

I like how you managed to make a magical version of the "character-following-looping-commands" subgenre, where others usually went by a "programming a robot" route. The art is really cute :)

As someone said above: Music/Sound would have made a huge difference to the feel of the game.
Nevertheless I really enjoyed playing this game and trying to figure out solutions without "bruteforcing" them. I think this is a really nice interpretation of the theme.
Well done :thumbsup_tone2:

This was one of the more fun puzzles I've seen. I got stuck on level 8 and had to give up after struggling for a bit. Really well done - this was incredibly cool.
