Looper Cooper by Imphenzia

[raw]
made by Imphenzia for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)
  • HOW TO PLAY

Controls: Use Up/Down Axis (W/S or Up/Down Arrow) to steer plane. Down is up, up is down, just like on a real plane.

You are Looper Cooper. You score points by flying close to the ground, and even more points to fly close to objects like buildings, trees, rocks, and hills. You have three lives to score as many points as you can!

You can also loop around presents, if they pop, you get another 1000 points! Be aware, don't collide with the presents - they are rock solid.

  • ABOUT THE GAME

[Irony] This game was designed to compete with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. It has day / night cycle (check out how the lights in the windows light up during the night). It also has a very accurate aircraft damage model. Careful thought also went into getting the aerodynamics of the aircraft accurate which is why you may experience a slightly laggy feeling as you control the plane - it's real torque that is applied. This is a simulator and not an arcade game so direct control had to be sacrificed.[/Irony]

The level is "procedurally" spawned and as you go around the loop a virtual "wrecking ball" is destroying objects on the opposite side of the loop and replaces it with new objects. This way the level will constantly change indefinitely as you play. My personal best score is 14500 =)

I hoped for an HTML5 Build :)

How did you manage to fly and look for the Ball yesterday at the same time?! Its very hard controls, but Its a lot of fun! And the models are amazing ofc! I like that you took the time for this nice menu screen in the beginning and the animation. Also good use of the default cube!
I actually don't know whats on the end of the circle but somehow I had in my memory it was a spiral? Good game! Good Quality! Amazing for 48h!

I like the fact that you're flying around in a loop, and doing so in a type of plane known for doing loop-de-loops. I always like when games implement the theme in multiple ways (did the same myself). Gameplay is difficult but fun!

Absolutely awesome, as would be expected from the legendary Imphenzia. Fun, nice to play, pretty models, polished explosion effects, what's not to like. Seriously though, is this supposed to happen: ![Untitled.png](///raw/368/1/z/36132.png)
Seems kind of mean to have a pickup there with animations that reaaaally make you want it and then just kill the player. :)

Edit: Oh, I just read the description, of course it's clear now. Sorry, I can't read more text at once than fits a Twitter post!

@indigo like for the score you need to stay close to the present for a long time and not actually touch it ;D

Very cool game. After a while you get very used to the controls, Always counter steer instantly guys! Then you have more control over your plane than a fighter pilot.

I greatly appreciate the explosions in this game.

When the game first loads, you have a nice, beautifully aesthetic, low-poly world waiting before you. What better to do than run head-long into it and explode? Of course, it's even better when you re-spawn, looking at the conflagration of your last death, only to do it again.

Suffice to say, this game brought me joy.

I found the controls a little to touchy for my own tastes, but then I'm a terrible at games like this, so I'm not a very good judge. The graphics were well polished and I'm curious to look into your code for generating circular levels.

It would have been interesting to introduce other flying things like dirigibles, but I guess, since you have floating presents, that works too.

Thanks for sharing!

That moment when you finally unwrap a present. :joy:

You are amazing. I have followed you for years, youtube etc. I really love the polish work you do in all areas. I aspire to be as good as you. Well done!

Excellent game! I had a good laugh when I would crash into my previously crashing plane bits.

GG gave a tough review as there are so many games to preview. 5 stars for theme don't think you can get more stuck in a loop then being stuck in a loop in a loop. Leaving the crashed planes was a great call! One of the first games I had to check out as I Learned So much watching your YouTube videos keep up the great work. E to Extrude S to Scale!

The idea is good. It is easy to understand, but difficult to master.
Nice choice of effects and models as well.
You can cheat easily by doing endless barrel rolls near the obstacles, though.

This is a really good game, would be nice if it was a little bit easier, at least on the early stages of the game. E to extrude S to scale!

Best 3D graphics of the game so far, but what else did we expect from you? :)

This game looks stunning. So much attention has been given to the particles, the aesthetics, really liked it! The arcadey sound effects were great too. I'm not sure I'm fully on-board with the controls' low sensitivity, but I think that's more a matter of preference. Also, I think it might work better without the lives altogether. The lives add to the arcade feel, but every time I reached Game Over I was just frustrated to not have an instant restart, but that's also maybe more a preference kinda thing. Love how the particles stay after each run. Also, is that randomly generated levels? AWESOME! Well done, super cool entry!

Everybody else commented on the graphics so I won't repeat, just one thing : my fat fingers and lack of skills might be the cause of it, but I found the game very frustrating. I don't like the fact that the plane keeps on turning in the direction you've inputed even once you've let go, it seems counter-intuitive to me, it makes sense but in a game I wouldn't except this.

It's a really impressive game to have put together in 48 hours.

Gameplay was more difficult than I could really handle, but reminds me of other well-made games with similar mechanics. All told, it's a really great entry!

Nice work! I ended up cheating with a loop-de-loop near an obstacle like a few of the other reviewers here

Great game! Fun, entertaining and nicely polished. Out of all I tried I've spent the most time on this one. Only nit pick, the random generation (assuming that's what it is) sometimes creates two tall objects above/below each other effectively creating a wall you can't get through. Love the low poly look!

Beautiful. BTW I wouldn't have finished my first ever game this Jam if it weren't for stumbling across your videos a couple weeks ago

Really well-executed concept and the visuals are solid too. It is, as everyone’s mentioned, quite hard—the best I’ve done is 440—but clearly with practice one could get way better at it. The proximity sound cues are a nice touch. Great work!

Love the plane crash, explosions and character animations when falling, which is all I've managed to accomplish so far 😅 😂 Great game!

Am I really supposed to go through this? 😁

Nice little game here. It is those kind of controls that you can't overcompensate for a course correction or you'r dead meat. Nice mood detail in changing skybox light with time.

Really cool low poly 3d artwork.

Controls feels great, not too hard, not too easy. I was a very small child at the time, but this loop handling style somehow reminds me of an ancient Intellivision game called Triple Action

![63693-triple-action-intellivision-screenshot-biplanes.gif](///raw/671/z/39dcb.gif)

As a minor flaw, sound effects would greatly improve with some normalization on volume levels.

Overall a top entry here. Good Job!

Great graphics and concept, just the controls are little hard to master.

Looks beautiful, plays hilariously. I had some really harrowing flights, as I never quite got the hang of the controls. You can pull into VERY tight loops, but then pulling out of them takes a little while so it felt a bit difficult to predict exactly where/when my loop would broaden, and since I was looping quite close to things, I'd generally crash. My attempts to actually go around the circle were hilariously terrible.

But it didn't matter that I stunk because it was still fun to fail!

First of all, I really appreciate you and your youTube channel! I found you a week before the jam. This was my first game that actually had graphics and animation instead of capsules and cubes, thanks to you! Your videos are all over the end of my timelapse. Thanks to you, I know to press E to extrude, S to scale.

As to the game, it's really fun! Very addictive gameplay, even though it's hard to control. It's very polished, especially for a compo game! I really like the graphics and the explosions are epic. Awesome job!!
