Aero-Spéléo by Aune
Hello !
This is my game for the ludum dare 48.
AERO-SPELEO
A game about the extreme sport that is caving with sky diving.

Of course this hobby would not be so risky if there were no HEAVY objects falling !

Made with unity every sound, 2D, 3D character & animation, music, game design and CS script has been done during this 72 hours.
~~we could talk about a compo that lasted a little too long ^^~~

The game is composed of 3 short levels which are not procedural (even the dropping of objects is scipted for a fair time attack)
I hope you will enjoy.
Please, don't hesitate to put your highscore in comments, if I make a V2 I'll add them!

I really liked the animations on the main character. He even makes a proper frog position to break his speed. Very cool! All the graphics are pretty cool and the colors are very earthy and pleasant. The music loops is short but definitely adds energy to the whole thing.
It was pretty fun to play. I had the most trouble with level 2 and the 3rd one turned out to be the easiest for me. My highscores are more like lowscores though
It is an impressive piece of solo work!
I wasn't quite able to beat your high score on the first level, but this was my best score.

You bitches, better recognize!

Thank you very much for your comment and your improvement idea this is only my second solo creation and it helps me to progress !
@fabula-rasa my cowardice involves that I only know the cartoon networks vision of skydinving ^^
Level 1

Level 2

Level 3

Music is great and doesn't get too repetitive, which is on of the most common problems with game jam music. Movement feels very smooth and it's easy to control. Collisions could have been improved, I felt like it was a bit inconsistent (sometimes I would die way above a wall, sometimes I would fall straight through the wall and end up inside of it, only to die after getting to the other side). The level layout is nice and I think the lengths of the level are perfect: just enough to not easily remember all of it in your head but not long enough to have no idea what's coming up. I would've loved if there was a key to reload the game, like with the R key for example. Right now I had to move my hand to the mouse each time I died which is the only thing that became a bit annoying after a while (I played with arrow keys). In fact, since the mouse isn't used you could have hidden the mouse completely and just have the game be navigable with the keyboard on it's own, then the mouse wouldn't feel as out of place. I think adding falling stuff was a really good idea because it adds a whole new layer to the game where you have to keep in mind what would happen if a big piano were to show up above you. Most people (me included) just made a game where you fall downwards, which makes the gameplay a bit more bland than what you have here. I also think that not making the levels procedural (as well as having the falling objects on a set timer) is to your advantage, since it removes all elements of RNG when "speedrunning" the game.
That was one big, unstructured block of feedback but to summarize I think this game was a lot of fun :)
@jonathan-lorenz Thanks for your idea, do you have any idea how to mix this with the time attack?
@marcus-otterstrom Hello marcus ! thank you for your comment it summarize well the improvements idea that I received (I feel quite dumb not having thought to the restart button).
I admit that it is such a pleasure that you understand exactly all the choices that I made about no random and falling things (that don't deserve the original story in fact) so ... It is, like, good to feel understood ^^
Bonuses could be things like having a one use shield, a few seconds of slowmo, a "destroy all falling objects" bomb... Could also be collectables "Find the golden kitten in each level".
Thank you I'm starting to think about my post-jam version and I think it could be a great idea (why not a falling bonus too that leads too speed run even without time attack)!
Maybe allow me to see a little further while I´m falling.
@binaryprinciple Hello thank you for playing and your return. I thought I wrote it, there is no RGN in order to make time attack possible. In my opinion (maybe I'm wrong) it would not be fair to make random part in "speed running like game". I'm sorry if this disrupted your gaming experience

Also, every time I beat a level all the buttons on the victory screen were broken and I had to reload the game :-//
Nonetheless, this plays very smoothly, and it has a lot of funny touches, well done!
@ditam I saw the collision glitch too (And did not got the mental force to fix it) very strange UI bug indeed... I've no idea yet about how to fix that, thanks for the notification !
I definitely see some speedrun potential here! The hitboxes felt a bit wonky here and there, but overall this was a super solid experience. Well done!
