Red Stranding by Alchemic

Slay gun foxes, build ladders, and avoid the night! Forge your path down to grandma's house with the help of online strangers.
INTRO
Join little red riding hood as she attempts to visit her grandmother deep in the forest. Many enemies and obstacles block the way, meaning that Red needs to create a path in order to make it deeper and deeper as the days go by. Luckily you can receive help from other players in a “strand-like” way, meaning that paths and structures placed by other players can appear in your world, just like how your structures can appear in future or current players’. Make sure not to stay out too long to avoid the knife wolves and enjoy getting deeper and deeper into the forest until you make it to the end.
INSTRUCTIONS
- WASD or arrow keys to move
- SPACE, X, or left click to attack in your current direction
- Z, F, or Y to place or interact with currently equipped structure
- C or E to cycle currently selected structure
- Shift to sprint
ITEMS
- Torch - Creates light. Needs to be applied multiple times for fuel.
- Berry bush - Needs to be cared for multiple times to grow. Berries heal you.
- Ladder - Use to scale down cliffs.
Most items replenish each time you sleep, but Ladders need to be crafted from sticks which are obtained from rare stick bushes.
DAY/NIGHT CYCLE
The knife wolves come out at night! Sleep in your cabin to heal and start the next day.
WINNING THE GAME
Get to grandma's house! Unfortunately we didn't have time to implement an actual win state, so if you find grandma's house at the bottom of the map, consider that winning.
TIPS
- Chop down stick bushes to gain ladders, ladders can be placed on cliffs.
- Other player structures and paths appear in the morning, so don't forget to sleep if you're stuck.
- Getting to grandma's house requires help from others, so be on the lookout for any already-placed ladders.
- Torches and bushes get replenished every morning, but ladders do not.
PRIVACY NOTE
This game records your in-game actions and sends them to a server, and that data will be sent to other players. No uniquely identifiable information is ever sent to other players, but a unique ID will be assigned to you for the server to keep track of you.

I like that other players can influence the game :).
Great job!
Glad everyone is enjoying the torches!
But here is grandma's sprite as a reward:

We were just going to have a very short cutscene of her congratulating you, and then the next day would begin as if you had slept.
This is pretty top.
Here are some points I listed :
- The hotkeys aren't very intuitive. If you play with WASD, it looks like they are all mixed up around the movement key, and with some keys doing the same action (Z and F, and why is Y alone over there?). If you play with arrow keys, I guess the keys are Z,X,C for actions. So i guess it's more playable with arrow keys. (Although i have Azerty keyboard, so I still had a hard time to get used to it)
- We need to use 2 torches to light up a new torch. That's a bit...weird? or maybe that's just me. I understand it is used to fuel up as well but I would have thought that when you place a new torch, it would light up by default. And then, if the light goes off, you can use 1 torch to fuel it back. As we start with 4 torches each time we go back to our house, by doing this way, it would avoid the player to go back and forth to the house every 2 new torches he places. (More convenient ?)
Fun things I saw :
- The brown deer (or fox?) looks like they are holding a rifle at the top of their head, and they shoot at you while chasing you !
- I don't know why but after a few days, there is big yellow spot near the entrance of our house. I think it's because there are a lot of torches at the same place. :spy_tone2: My guess is that a lot of players tested out the torch at this place and they are all appearing at this place throughout the run. But it actually helped me to know where is the house when the game was going dark.
On overall, that's a good game. I'd like to put bushes everywhere on the map for other players now hahaha.
Good job on this one ! :tada:
AWesome work
The music is relaxing and the graphics remind me of the olden days
This was a really solid entry other than that!
Nice work, would have been interesting to see other people's stuff appear in the world :D, but good job either way.
Thank you for creating this game!
The graphics are very good and the music too, the online play mode is also very interesting.
Congratulations !
Excellent jeu, j'ai bien aimé le principe, même s'il est parfois un peu compliqué à mettre en oeuvre.
Les graphismes sont très bien et la musique aussi, le mode de jeu en ligne est également très intéressant.
Félicitations !
