Deck Digger by LDJam user 384191

[raw]
made by LDJam user 384191 for Ludum Dare 57 (COMPO)

Use your trusted digger to reach the Earth's core and (ironically) escape the lava!

Play on itch.io

Deck Digger is a deck builder where you use cards to move

screen_2.png

grid.png Lava is coming in from the top, your goal is to escape by reaching the bottom

rocks.png During your escape, you will find rocks blocking your way. Breaking them earns you money that you can use to buy more cards, but also reduce your digger's health!

cards.png Use cards to plan your moves. When ready, press the button to run your sequence

stats.png You lose if you run out of health points. You can restore your digger's health at the end of each level, or by using repair cards.

Good luck!

A great game with a good sense of progression. I want to start again and buy HP to be able to mine the biggest ores! Congrats !

Very cool ! The mechanics is great and the graphics are pleasants. We have to make a choice about getting money or getting the level done. And we have the possibility to be greedy or not.
It could be interesting to continue this work.

A fun roguelike with a good dose of replayability, the perfect recipe for a compo game, the graphics are simple but work well.

Good work, I really dig it !

I loved that! Graphics for the intro and the character were great. Could definitely be expanded into a full game as the concept and gameplay were great. Balance felt a bit off, as you really need to prioritise health early and it's hard to get enough cash to do so with so little health to begin with.

Super interesting concept as always. Shouldn't the wins and losses appear on the blocks? I love the intro drawings that remind me of Disc Room, one of the best games of all time. And I finished it because I'm very smart... I love when i can finish jam games.

That was pretty fun! I was able to reach the end the second time I tried, very intuitive and easy to understand, amazing entry for the Compo :)

I could buy a complete game with that core mechanic. Great COMPO entry, good mix of fun and tension!

The game feels very polished with the inventory mechanics, animation of the character, and introductory illustrations. All that is missing is a background track for it to feel like a complete game.

A fun little game, I liked the project. The concept is easy to learn, you get the hang of it really fast, and the balance is good.

Managed to win!

Anyway, this was fun! As others have said, the core mechanic of having to take damage to gain coins is very clever. Especially once the large diamond blocks arrive, which are instant death if you haven't upgraded your max health yet, preventing people from just skipping gaining money. I also really appreciate the opening cinematic & the little character graphic at the top left, gave the game a lot of personality. It did feel like gaining new cards was a bit underwhelming, as most of them except the doubling one for health or two steps down one felt pretty useless, but otherwise, great entry!

That's a great result in 48 hours, you did well)
The only thing is that there is a lack of some kind of global goal and a sense to accumulate gold)

Loved the pixel art style, gave the game a charming and nostalgic feel 😊 I'll say as an artist, the character stylizations are great!

Super cool and fun game, would have loved to have somem more levels to play. Really nothing to complain about, nice polish and good sfx. Sure some music would be great but as a non musician myself I know it is super difficult within this time span! Great job.

I am a sucker for deck builders so i am naturally like this game! Its very impressive, especially considering this is a COMPO entry. The art is adorable, really like it!
I find a difficulty curve a bit steep though.

Nice game. Overall works very well. Cards and icons are clear and easy to understand. More levels and a higher difficult would be welcome expansions. I liked the cut scene. For being simple it was effective at added a story.

Cool game! The card mechanic works very well. However I did realize that collecting golds that you don't need to get through to continue isn't really worth while since you have to pay for it again in the repairs. Maybe the payoff should be a little bit better?

It's a very interesting game with deep strategic thinking, I think it's worth developing into a complete game.

Great game-design that's easy to follow and has a fine balance. Quite addictive too!

You add something new every level making it more entertaining as you drill deeper.

Well done!
