A game about art forgery using newspaper articles

👉 Play it on Itch.io

Butler works for his master, Sr. Cole Hector, who asks him to visit an auction where they will sell the most prestigious paintings. But when Butler misses the auction, he has to come up with a creative solution to prevent getting fired.

catalogue.png

Use an old newspaper to mimic the real paintings. Search for similar objects or shapes, cut them out, and place them correctly on the canvas. Will your master, with his terrible eye-sight, be fooled by your creation, or will you have to find a new job?

I really love this game! It's incredible that you all managed to draw so many things in just a few days. The atmosphere is fantastic!

This gem hits all the nails! From the start the art and sounds sold it. The game mechanics took some time to figure them out but it was worth it!

Wow, this game is amazing! I managed to actually forge all 5 painting correctly with 2 misses. Great job with pixel art and music. Even looking through all those newspaper articles is fun.

The only problem with this genre of games is that criteria for success or failure is unclear. For example, I cut out a cruise ship, a girl and a fish tail, and get 3 misses, then I cancel, do exactly the same and I get a successful forge. So it doesn't feel like I actually succeed through my skill, it feels I just randomly guessed correctly.

Anyway, this game is really well-made and I had a lot of fun playing it!

Oh my god we got a winner here!
The music, the art style, the sfx, the humour, everything fits haha :D Loved every second of this!
This saxy music with the filter is so epic!!
I might have found a small bug: I got fired and afterwards the game didnt restart properly

Really great game, everything fits together perfectly :star2:

The "rating" of the forged painting unfortunately feels a bit unclear - does a red x mean that the part was completely wrong / just placed wrong / not cut out well enough?
Or maybe I'm just complaining because I'm bad at cutting them out

Very nice concept though and great execution!

Whouw this is so good!! I'm really curious about the technical part of this one too.
I find it insane how good the many graphics are in this game. Those expressions are very well done and that butler is ripped!!

That's a great idea! I just couldn't make him like my painting sadly, after the apple. I tried cutting things in the shape of the lettuce but couldn't really figure it out.

A masterpiece as always.
I’ve loved your paint-your-way style of gameplay since your last entry, and this one brings even more surprises and fun. Top-notch art, audio, and design as long as implementaiton, all executed beautifully. Definitely my favorite so far. Great job!

The concept, the art, the humor... it's all brilliant. Every cutscene had me laughing. Goodness those facial expressions.

Here's my recorded gameplay, as I think it will provide way more feedback that I can with words. The only thing that tripped me up was the placement of the girl in "Hood", which I honestly thought I got correct every time.

This game is a masterpiece.

Lovely! I really enjoyed this one, from graphics to sound to mechanics. I had fun, just was a bit bummed at having added at the Food one those separate grapes which ended up not fitting and being too detailed thought out of me  Loved the game, to me its original.

You had me from the start because I love puns.
It's really funny, The art, music, and direction is really good. Every close up on the painting made me crack a little. Amazing job!
I'd say my only critique is that the cutting part was a bit tedious, but it's just not the kind of game-play I like, it has not much to do with how you implemented it.

This is absolutely hilarious! The various options for "pieces of art" are all really awesome, and come together to make some hysterical works of art. I also loved how clever I felt when I figured out how to combine stuff!

Wow, this is one of those entries where you can only be amazed by how good it is and ask yourself: how the hell was this made in such a short amount of time?! Everything in the game just works so well to come together for a full experience. Beautifully crafted and such a blast to play! Really creative, awesome job!

One of my favorite entries so far. It's super fun and the jokes are great. It's well executed and I love the style. I don’t even know if it’s possible to lose, but I tried my best anyway :D![Capture d’écran 2025-10-12 193157.png](///raw/17b/36/z/6f52a.png)

this is so good. incredibly funny concept, executed superbly. the illustrations and cutscenes alone make this game something special to me. Some of the failure criteria felt a little arbitrary to me, but i never expected it to be a super rigorous process anyway. really good stuff as usual!

Another amazing entry! Really impressive with all the cut scenes and overall art you managed to fit in with the time frame. The humour was absolutely spot on.
Love the idea, paired that with the humour its a really awesome entry.
Maybe having a faster way to skip through after failing would be nice, it felt like some of the cut scenes I couldn't skip over very fast.

Well this was absolutely delightful. Loved the goofy characters, creative gameplay, and little details in the newspapers. Also the "real" art illustrations were just really pretty in their own right!

My only real quibble is that the gameplay was a bit easy. It would have been nice if there was one challenge level with more than three components, although it seems like it would be difficult to fit anything else into this game since it is already scoped so high for a weekend jam.

Loved the little nod to Captain Peggles in the paper!

An amazing entry! The art is gorgeous, and the gameplay is extremely well-implemented and seemingly bug-free for my playthrough. I loved the humor and mood of the entry, and the timing and tension with Sr. Hector's appraisal is great. The music sets the mood perfectly and sounds great, too. I imagine getting all these mechanics to work and making them feel good to use was no small feat! There's a little bit of "meta-challenge" in trying to figure out what the game will accept and wants me to do, VS what I would want to do if I could trust the computer to act like a human, but for a jam game the "solution restrictions" are well within the bounds of what's reasonable. Having the "❌" and "✅" hints went a LONG way in reducing frustration, but I did end up peeking at 100thCoin's playthrough for hints so I didn't get hit with a game over in case my alignment was off. 😅

The game overall reminded me a lot of Scribblenauts and Professor Layton- something about this game just screams "high-budget third-party Nintendo DS release". I would love to play a "full" version of this, or some other take on the concept! There's just so much potential and ways you could mess with the mechanics- spelling words, requiring more "mashing up" of different objects, having more discerning clients, needing to match colors, etc. But! Even just what's here is extremely well done and well polished. Great work!

Really enjoyable game. Very amusing, love the artwork, love the concept. I'm going to give constructive criticism too because I know you're an elite jammer so feedback is more useful to you, but just to be clear: I really like this game and I'm giving it 5s almost all down the board.

So, the good: very amusing, very novel, gorgeous to look at, fun to work out the solutions

Minor gripes:

1. I think having two arrows that just show left and right could be clearer because I kept mixing them up. I would make the top icons show an icon of the catalogue/newspaper/canvas respectively and the bottom ones show an arrow turning (like it is already) laid over a newspaper graphic. minor gripe as I say

2. Mixing up the locations of some of the items (like horse + wing, the two people in the showdown) would make the puzzles more compelling especially with only 5.

3. I would love some more complexity. The highlight of the game was mermaid girl + fish tail by far, the rest of the puzzles were pretty much "find a mushroom, ok there's a mushroom.

I would've liked to have seen more "I have to cut pieces off something" instead of just "entirely draw around something that's already there" because design wise it made the cutting out gimmick (which is cool itself as a mechanic) into more of a chore to draw around something clearly there, in most puzzles you're essentially just grabbing a sticker out of a book and putting it in another book but with an 8 second failable task of tracing around it Mario Party style first. forcing the player to do more through-cuts like cutting the fish in half would make it feel more like I am truly cutting things out instead of just inefficiently pulling stamps out of a book. seems to me like the real fun here is in solving the puzzles rather than the motions of drawing round things

but anyway the only reason I give that level of constructive criticism is because I know you are a very good developer who might appreciate the feedback, if it were a regular person I'd just be like "sick game, no notes". because it's great.
