Cut to Pieces by Sheepolution

A game about art forgery using newspaper articles
👉 Play it on Itch.io
Butler works for his master, Sr. Cole Hector, who asks him to visit an auction where they will sell the most prestigious paintings. But when Butler misses the auction, he has to come up with a creative solution to prevent getting fired.

Use an old newspaper to mimic the real paintings. Search for similar objects or shapes, cut them out, and place them correctly on the canvas. Will your master, with his terrible eye-sight, be fooled by your creation, or will you have to find a new job?

The only problem with this genre of games is that criteria for success or failure is unclear. For example, I cut out a cruise ship, a girl and a fish tail, and get 3 misses, then I cancel, do exactly the same and I get a successful forge. So it doesn't feel like I actually succeed through my skill, it feels I just randomly guessed correctly.
Anyway, this game is really well-made and I had a lot of fun playing it!
The music, the art style, the sfx, the humour, everything fits haha :D Loved every second of this!
This saxy music with the filter is so epic!!
I might have found a small bug: I got fired and afterwards the game didnt restart properly
The "rating" of the forged painting unfortunately feels a bit unclear - does a red x mean that the part was completely wrong / just placed wrong / not cut out well enough?
Or maybe I'm just complaining because I'm bad at cutting them out
Very nice concept though and great execution!
I find it insane how good the many graphics are in this game. Those expressions are very well done and that butler is ripped!!
I’ve loved your paint-your-way style of gameplay since your last entry, and this one brings even more surprises and fun. Top-notch art, audio, and design as long as implementaiton, all executed beautifully. Definitely my favorite so far. Great job!

Here's my recorded gameplay, as I think it will provide way more feedback that I can with words. The only thing that tripped me up was the placement of the girl in "Hood", which I honestly thought I got correct every time.
This game is a masterpiece.

It's really funny, The art, music, and direction is really good. Every close up on the painting made me crack a little. Amazing job!
I'd say my only critique is that the cutting part was a bit tedious, but it's just not the kind of game-play I like, it has not much to do with how you implemented it.

enjoyed it so much, everything about it. props to the artist who made so much content, without compromising on anything, beautifully done!
Love the idea, paired that with the humour its a really awesome entry.
Maybe having a faster way to skip through after failing would be nice, it felt like some of the cut scenes I couldn't skip over very fast.
My only real quibble is that the gameplay was a bit easy. It would have been nice if there was one challenge level with more than three components, although it seems like it would be difficult to fit anything else into this game since it is already scoped so high for a weekend jam.
Loved the little nod to Captain Peggles in the paper!
The game overall reminded me a lot of Scribblenauts and Professor Layton- something about this game just screams "high-budget third-party Nintendo DS release". I would love to play a "full" version of this, or some other take on the concept! There's just so much potential and ways you could mess with the mechanics- spelling words, requiring more "mashing up" of different objects, having more discerning clients, needing to match colors, etc. But! Even just what's here is extremely well done and well polished. Great work!
So, the good: very amusing, very novel, gorgeous to look at, fun to work out the solutions
Minor gripes:
1. I think having two arrows that just show left and right could be clearer because I kept mixing them up. I would make the top icons show an icon of the catalogue/newspaper/canvas respectively and the bottom ones show an arrow turning (like it is already) laid over a newspaper graphic. minor gripe as I say
2. Mixing up the locations of some of the items (like horse + wing, the two people in the showdown) would make the puzzles more compelling especially with only 5.
3. I would love some more complexity. The highlight of the game was mermaid girl + fish tail by far, the rest of the puzzles were pretty much "find a mushroom, ok there's a mushroom.
I would've liked to have seen more "I have to cut pieces off something" instead of just "entirely draw around something that's already there" because design wise it made the cutting out gimmick (which is cool itself as a mechanic) into more of a chore to draw around something clearly there, in most puzzles you're essentially just grabbing a sticker out of a book and putting it in another book but with an 8 second failable task of tracing around it Mario Party style first. forcing the player to do more through-cuts like cutting the fish in half would make it feel more like I am truly cutting things out instead of just inefficiently pulling stamps out of a book. seems to me like the real fun here is in solving the puzzles rather than the motions of drawing round things
but anyway the only reason I give that level of constructive criticism is because I know you are a very good developer who might appreciate the feedback, if it were a regular person I'd just be like "sick game, no notes". because it's great.
I wish I had played it during the evaluations.
Congratulations to everyone on the team.
