How to play

To signal where the enemies are coming you are supposed to drag the flag of the region and an item (torch) to the center of the screen and press OK (or space bar or return). The arrows on the sides move you between regions and each region has a matching flag (displayed on the tutorial screen).

Example: spear gnoll in windmill region -> yellow flag with torch.

The Game

  • Drag the flags matching regions and items to the screen
  • Press press OK, Space bar or Return
  • Use the arrows to look around between the regions
  • Tidy up! Careful not to make a mess of the flags and items after they drop back straight from where they were used
  • Watch for your action cooldown
  • Reach the end of day to beat a level
  • Defend the city for three days to win

Tons of Fun! It has a hard learning curve of effective strategies, but thats what makes it fun! (At least to me). Though, one thing to watch out for, as it is the way explained of how to beat the Gnolls, (Figuring out you have to place the matching item, and flag, then click the okay button when you r mana is refilled), is not really there I guess.

But once I got the hang of it, it was super fun! My most enjoyable played game this jam so far!

I couldn't figure out how this game works. I dragged the flag and clicked on OK but nothing happened. Then I press the arrow, the background changed but the same flag would still get visible. I could be a bug. :(

I'm not gonna rate this one until clarification on your side..

Very nice art, movement, and music, but i don't really get what i'm supposed to do, i can't defeat any of the gnolls or use the flags

Even with the explanations it was kind of confusing for awhile. Once I eventually figured it out it was a fun strategic mechanic.

@jan-sate hello! Thanks for playing!

You are supposed to drag the flag of the region and an item (torch) to the center of the screen and press OK (or space bar or return). The arrows on the sides move you between regions and each region has a matching flag (displayed on the tutorial screen).

Example: spear gnoll in windmill region -> yellow flag with torch.

We tried to improve the tutorial and the descriptions in the game page over many iterations, so any feedback on it is very important. I will try to update the game description to make it more clear, but indeed some experimentation is expected.

@holysparks aha! Thanks for the clarification. I thought that I only had to put on the flag alone without the weapon and I thought that the objective was to just place the flag onto the village and when I clicked on OK, the flag got put back and I was so confused. Turns out that the objective is to "kill" the gnolls. The game's actually pretty fun.

I ended up winning the game! :D

EDIT: I think it'd be better to state the objective of the game clearly.

It took me some time to realize that each flag is associated to one region. Maybe the flag matching each region should be displayed somewhere in this region?

Cute game! I will say, itd help to have the flags above each of the different regions - it was a bit awkward to figure them out the first time, even though I later realized that the flags just went in order

Great job!

It's a very cool game! I liked getting confused about the coats of arms of the regions)

Good game! A bit short but beautiful. It would be nice to have more keyboard control (for example, switch cameras with an arrow). But your game is very pretty and fun to play, good job!

Really fun little strategy (?) game! The art with the mix of papercraft stylings is great, and the slight physics/positional element of managing where your symbols end up keeps the game exciting. I could genuinely see this becoming a really cute mobile game if you ever wanted to build it out more. Thanks for sharing! :confetti_ball:

Cool! Honestly I didn't understand how it was a "game" until the second day, but then I really appreciated having day 1 to practice 😁

I feel like I got an error on day 3 when there was 1 speargnoll and 1 bowgnoll attacking, and I used yellow hand, torch, and bow, and got the "that's wrong" sound effect.

Overall it's clever, and nails the theme.

Took a while to figure out what to do. It was fun once I understood it although that did take many attempts.
I think the problem I had was it was unclear that each region needs a specific flag that you have to figure out and remember since there doesn't seem to be any clues as to the connection.

@madbarron thank you for playing! The thing there is that you can only signal using one flag and one item at a time (think you are waving them with your hands), so having torch and bow won't work

@someone thanks a lot for playing! On the tutorial page each flag is shown in its region, but yeah we left to the player to memorize on their own. A hint: WATERfall region - BLUE swirl flag

Liked the art! Didn't really understand how to play even after reading the instructions. Dragging out the flag and item and hitting ok didn't seem to do anything as far as I could tell.

@holysparks I would like to wave the torch with my hand kick the gong with my foot, and blow the horn with my mouth, thank you very much

I like that you chose Gnolls because I like Warcraft. The game has an interesting idea, but it's not intuitively clear which flag fits which region. It's a little frustrating.

We didn't realize we needed to *memorize* the flags at first! But once we had figured that out, it was very satisfying to slay the gnolls! :D

Good job on the graphics!

The audio volume seems to reset for every level, but it was good that you could set it!

I think the game's graphics are very cute, and this strategy game is quite interesting. It's especially challenging to come up with such gameplay in such a short time. One can sense the author's dedication and the small details. It would be even better if the game's instructions could be made clearer in the subsequent gameplay.
