SETI@dream by LDJam user 371996

[raw]
made by LDJam user 371996 for Ludum Dare 59 (COMPO)

"If you listen closely, the silence of the universe starts to sing."

A sci-fi rhythm game where puzzles and melodies unfold among the stars.

Following the mystery of her father’s disappearance during the SETI project, a young girl begins to receive strange signal!s in her dreams. Are these just echoes of her grief, or is someone—or something—reaching out from the deep void?

For the best experience, please use wired headphones. Turn off the lights, put on your headset, and let's find the signal together.

If you experience audio-visual latency, please try restarting the game or using wired headphones/external speakers. We are planning to add a calibration feature in a future update.

Beautiful artwork and atmosphere. It sparks a strong desire to experience the game.

Coming from Bilibili! I’m honestly blown away that a solo dev managed to pull all of this off. The music is great, and those hand-drawn cutscenes are absolutely stunning! Input timing feels slightly out of sync with the music's beat—it’s hard to find the rhythm when the button presses don't line up with what I'm hearing. Still, an amazing effort!

very nice game, and the rhythm is very cool, too bad there is no pause button, I can't get to the end for the second time because I accidentally closed the game ":)

Rhythm game? Awesome! The sound design is really excellent. The visuals are also fantastic — could even be used as wallpapers

The game conveys the mood really well and feels very polished overall.

It really feels like a game made with a lot of care and attention. Thank you

Not in to rhytm games... but this one hit a nerve - I like the simple look of it and impressed with how much you achieved for the timeline.

Left you a rating

Very impressive :D It took a bit of time for me to understand that when the markers disappear I still needed to follow them, but that's my only nitpick. It's a treasure of a game, especially for the compo.

Okay, now I've finished it. Great design, beautiful music, smooth controls, nice visuals and particles, great storytelling reminding of voices of distant stars, nice effect of muting bg music when trying... Did not disappointed. Ah, and clever usage of 5/4 and 7/4, hehe. Difficulty is little challenging, but just OK to beat from several tries.

An absolute masterpiece. I really love the simple soundtrack, art designed, player flow and storytelling of this game. Can't believe how you work it out in just 48h.To be selfish, if you can make the later stages more challenging, I mean more fun in playing, this game could become more excellent.Don't mind that, it's good enough.

我笨手笨脚记忆力也不好,最终还是通关了。三个键都要按的那关太难了。故事让我想起《星际穿越》主角在书柜里的绝望感。一个人做出来的太厉害了!![mmexport1776951480643.jpg](///raw/0b8/56/z/72743.png)

An incredibly complete and perfect game! The gameplay, narrative, and theme are seamlessly integrated. Even though my own clumsy fingers (pure skill issue! 😂) got me stuck at the very end for a while, I honestly consider it a win because it just gave me more time to enjoy the amazing music! Outstanding work, especially for a Compo entry!

Oh my goodness you actually got me crying. This reminded me so much of when I was a kid playing super mario galaxy, hearing about rosalina's story, looking for her parents. This game just brought me back in a way I haven't felt in a minute. Okay, mechanics, amazing, art, gorgeous, music, somberly fitting in a beautiful way, audio, tickles the ears. Everything about this game is perfect. Thank you for participating and for sharing this, I'm glad I decided to play another game after being burnt out from rating games the past two days. Perfect job and I hope to see more :D

So sorry for the late reply! It means a lot to hear what you think about the game. Thank you for your support! :rocket: :sparkles:

@jacat @fassenberg @drsmey @purpledartfrog @last-angle @w2k @nkvz Thanks so much for the praise! I really love working with minimalist sci-fi visuals and warm lo-fi beats, so it’s heartwarming to see they resonated with you. I’m already excited to experiment with some new styles next time!

@oradimi @gdman @babyfoodstudios @peppersalt07 @mr-flower This was my first time trying to tell a story through illustrations in a game, and I’m so grateful for the positive response. I’ve always been a bit insecure about my storytelling, so all the kind words about the plot mean the world to me and have given me so much motivation!

@bigfatgua @senkoril Thanks for the feedback! I apologize for the latency issues and the lack of a proper pause menu—I realize making 'Esc' quit the game was a design oversight. I’ve definitely learned from this and will be more mindful of standard player habits in my future designs~

@cagibi @jerrywest @z1116730 I realize the difficulty curve and the tutorial for new mechanics could definitely use some refinemen, thanks for 'suffering' through it wwwww Given the time constraints of the jam, I had to keep the mechanics relatively simple, but I’m looking forward to finding inspiration to polish the game and add more depth in the future :rocket: 'Zero Game' was a group of friends I used to make games with—I really miss those days when we were all learning game development together. And honestly, I'm still a student! So I'm really touched that you thought I was an experienced developer—that means a lot to me.

@zbrogdom @tyrrer Haha, thank you both! I only slept for one night during the jam—the second night was a full all-nighter to get all the assets and code together~ I really appreciate the concern, and believe me, I’ve been catching up on plenty of sleep since the submission xwx

Everything is outstanding — the music (multiple tracks that shift accordingly), the gameplay (fits the theme perfectly with strong positive feedback), and the art (clean UI, CGs that express just the right amount while keeping production time in check)! It's hard to believe this was made solo in 48 hours.
5/5, rooting for a great ranking!!
Hope Wuming-k gets plenty of rest though...

Wow, this little game gives me such an Interstellar-like feeling. It’s simple, but incredibly polished. I really love it. When first text appears, I get goosebumps.

I finished the game and was genuinely moved. The atmosphere is beautifully romantic, and the music along with the hand-drawn cutscenes really pulled me in. It's hard to believe this was made by one person in 48 hours — the level of polish is impressive.
The rhythm gameplay is simple enough that even someone like me, who doesn't play many rhythm games, could get through it. That said, the button timing did feel slightly off from the beat at times, which took a bit of getting used to. Also, a pause button would be really helpful — I had to step away and ended up restarting the game.
But these are small things. The overall experience stayed with me. The ending, combined with the music, almost brought me to tears. It's rare for a small game to touch me like that. Great work!

Really really like the game, no matter the gameplay and sceneplay. Such a cool music rhythm game through a bit difficult for me (though play music like maimai and PRSK a lot)
