[raw]
made by gagapete for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

You take control of a snake in a small arena. Collect foods and avoid biting your tail. If your snake doesn't eat in a while it starves so you need to eat every 10 seconds.

A simple game that is well done. My only complaint lies in the fact that snake games are moderately common; however, I will give credit where credit is due as it forces the player to rethink their normal snake strategy as the player doesn't have time to coil themselves up in a neat bundle, forcing them to be on the move. Good job!

Just like Glove said, it's a simple game but well executed. With a bit of a touch up on the graphics and maybe another layer of gameplay this could be a really nice little game. Well done!

Interesting idea! It's a snake game but 10 seconds theme applied and the novelty that the room is a circle! Good game!

Great interpretation of the classic game! Well suited to the theme, the management is convenient.
Still lacks background music, but it plays great!

It's a neat game and a cool idea. The time pressure definitely makes it harder as the snake gets longer. My only complaint is that for some reason the sound only comes from my left headphone (and it works fine everywhere else).

All in all pretty good, but could use more features. Perhaps powerups/debuffs?

Fun twist on a regular snake game! I guess, that's how you feel when you're a worm and some bored-to-death scientist puts you in a petri dish and bend you to their will just for amusement. The game is well made, smooth and complete. The only minor detail I noticed is sound playing only on the right side. It may be the problem with my headphones though.

I had my several minutes of fun. Take a look if you want.

What a great compo game! So simple, but so addictive! The first time I played snake, which was not bound to a rectangular grid and I really enjoyed it. Runs smooth like butter. The sprites are basic, but anything more and it would not be snake anymore! And it also fits the theme. Good job! Here's my highscore:

I looked at the code to see how you coded the tail follow, and I love that it's such a simple way to do it and it works!

i am not sure about the camera going up and down depending on your position, i think i'd prefer the screen to show all the circle.

apart from that, it's a nice and smooth interpretation of snake game, and you blended it with the theme without problem. good job, especially for a compo game!

A small tempered by time concept with a linking to our theme. Controls is quite good, graphics too and overall I liked it. A great entry. Good job

I wanted to ask what kind of engine did you use?

Nice game which is really well executed. You took a classic - and you cretaed something new. personnaly I am a big fan of these aesthetic which reminds me our old Atari 2600. All mechanics works well as expected. However sometines the green point is out of screen - maybe you should add an indicator... Clever and well done. A great entry ++

It's a nice little game. Another take on the snake world and it fits the theme. I have read your post where you said you tried other two ideas before you landed onto this one. Grats for getting it done on time! :smile:

@itshornunicorn the engine he used is Godot.

Super nice twist on the snake gameplay mechanics. Having the head turning at a fixed rate makes it a whole new challenge.

And I just love circles. So the circular game area is perfect. Which makes sense, as that snake cannot reach safely corners of a square.

Got to 52 points : )

I love the way the worm moves, its so smooth and a nice upgrade from rigidly following your path.

I always wanted the high score screen to stick around, I think it should be a different key than the movement keys so you can screenshot (or at least reminisce) after a good score.

I would have liked slightly faster worm movement, which would let players do more in the time limit, which would let them get further to see a much longer worm. I think a lot of the fun is in timing when to enter your own tail, and making the time limit only show up once that tail is longer could help that.

Other than that, a lot of fun!

Thank you all for the positive feedback and kind words for my little entry. I couldn't comment in time but I've tried to play all your entries if the platform requirements allowed it. Some of you really achieved impressive scores. :smiley:

@sneakylemon and @yngvarr
Thank you two for pointing me to that mistake. I did develop the game with my headphones in one ear only thus I didn't noticed the bug myself.

@tanis
Thanks that you've replied to @itshornunicorn about the Godot engine.
