Sir Golde and the Layer of the Minnowtaur by Knatt

[raw]
made by Knatt for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

You, Sir Golde; a Goldfish knight of high renown, have been tasked with saving the princess from the Minnowtaur's Layer. A simple enough task, if only you're memory was as good as your sword hand! Every 10 seconds Sir Golde will forget where he is! Such is the memory of a goldfish. Use magical magnifying glasses to reveal the area around you. Slay the Minnowtaur's dastardly urchin minions with your razor sharp sword... if only you could remember where you put it....screengrab1.pngscreengrab2.pngscreengrab3.png

@grangrue it's a false positive. Clickteam fusion .exes have been doing that, I'm not sure how to combat it. I included the source code on itch.io but if you don't trust it I totally understand, I'm just some stranger on the internet

Feels very polished, nice work! The spike balls got a little overwhelming for me, especially due to the limited sight, but everything fits together very well and the level design worked nicely for me.

Nice game! Didn't thought there would be a 2nd level so i was quite surprised. The theme use is pretty good, thought it would be slightly lacking reading the description but it works well with spikes and the magnifying glass.

Sir Golde does not look overjoyed that he managed to rescue the princess

The 10-second memory was honestly not as much of a hindrance. I could still easily find my way around and remember where things are. Although, the axes flying at you from beyond could be quite deadly. The magnifying glass was a nice touch and a unique mechanic, and you could really deploy it strategically to make some of the encounters trivial.

Music is very nice, even though short.

The UI only accommodates for 5 hearts, but it seemed to me that I can pick up more than that. A few times, when I have taken damage (judging by the animation), I didn't lose any hearts - so I surmised that those extra ones I picked us counted, and I was loosing hearts, just not seeing it. Or maybe it's just a bug.

It was kinda disappointing and anticlimactic that the big bad boss died from one hit. But maybe the fight really lasted for hours, Sir Golde just forgot

Overall, I had fun with the game, and it's a very nice compo entry!

This was a superb game, excellent work! I really love exploration in a game, and the main mechanic practically needing a good memory to overcome really appealed to me. Because the fog kept coming back, I had to use the lens in a very strategic way as a sort of waypoint to make sure I never got too lost. I was pleasantly surprised how well the fog combines with the main enemy type, as it encourages careful movement to not get hit point blank by a spike. I was even happier to see another level with a central boss attacking the entire time!

The only minor fix would be how the player gets weirdly stuck when walking in small one block hallways. Besides that I really liked this game, fantastic!

Beat it in 9:31! I really like this take on the theme, the concept of losing your vision every 10 seconds led to a really unique experience and gives the player some interesting choices to make. I also really liked the magnifying glass mechanic, and it was nice that once you had the sword you could permanently remove those pesky spikes. Good job!

I did it in 10:20! Nice game!
I very much like the idea of the memory loss.
The magnifying glass was a nice idea, but I didn't need it very often.

I noticed that the live counter can go higher than the shown hearts, because I didn't loose any heart when I collected enough.

Also a very nice feature to be able to change the controles, I did it with WASD to move and Left and Right to use the tools.

All in all a very well done game!

Excellent! I love the arts, animations and sounds. Two levels with different music, this is great. Good take on the theme. Controls are good. A small bug in the collisions, maybe the player collision box height is a bit too big. I had much fun for 13 minutes, thanks :) Good job!

Yeah, Antivirus flag is clickteam exe's being clickteam exe's; It's safe as far as I can tell. Im not great at these kinda games, so the magnifying glass actually helped me out a lot. Graphics are fun and charming. Music's actually pretty solid; was not expecting multiple tracks. Sound effects are fine. Neat use of the theme. I enjoyed it.
