Artillery Strike Simulator by Yaroslav Kravtsov
This is not a game in the usual sense.
Let me tell the backstory of this game first. I have been making games on Roblox for 2 years as a professional developer. So I had ideas to make a Roblox game on Ludum Dare. Also I had an idea to make a game about destruction, because online physics in Roblox is a miracle. But this is a technical part of this game.
Usually in games, wars are shown as if it were a holiday. The good guys shoot the bad guys. Everybody's happy. For years I've had the idea in my head of a game that would show how war turns a beautiful world into ruins. How tragedy comes into the lives of peaceful people. So that no one would have the idea that war is fun and a good way to deal with conflict situations. That war is when your house is in ruins and you yourself are in a bomb shelter and don't know how to go on.
When I thought about the jam theme “every 10 seconds” and the theme of destruction I remembered horrible tweets where people shared their experience from the war on Ukraine. When they were forced to hide in bunkers during air attack and listen to sirens for hours. Hopefully, I never experienced such terrible things in my life. But how can it be? What is to be in the city when every ten seconds shells drop from above?
I can’t say that I succeeded with my idea. It is just a game with virtual avatars and respawns. You have nothing to lose in this game in comparison with real life situations. But I think this is enough to understand that war sucks. Capturing cities is not romantic. And if this is happening on another side of the Earth with a nation you know little about you can still remember this game and understand a small part of their feelings.
I know this is a controversial topic. I could be misunderstood and this game could hurt other people's feelings. But for me, it's not just another game with physics on jam. It's how I live out my pain for the tragedy in Ukraine and my fears that my home may suffer the same fate. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to do everything I wanted to do for my author's vision. The player needs to be given time to get used to his home, to settle in, to see his place in it. Then it will be clearer what it means to lose your home due to force majeure from somewhere over the horizon. But right now it's just empty boxes that are falling apart beautifully. Although technically I could participate in the Jam category, but in this case the ratings are not needed, so I choose the Extra category.
So, this is not a game. Call it experience. Or artist statement. Or whatever. Just be on the peace side.

You may find that destruction looks bewitchingly and not so dangerous. Beware. This is just a small jam game with immortal characters and simplified physics. I wish you don't have such an experience in real life.

To play you need to have Roblox account and download Roblox client. But good news - you can play on Win, Mac, iPhone and Android devices. There two same links below because this site doesn't show only first link on Roblox. So I found this workaround.
