Cowboy vs Tumbleweeds by LDJam user 288322

[raw]
made by LDJam user 288322 for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

All alone in the desert, you have but one mission: survive. Armed with your handheld cannon which reloads once every 10 seconds, you have to dodge and kill murderous tumbleweeds. Thankfully you have some help. Sprinkled around the desert are chests that will upgrade you to survive for longer. Do not let the tumbleweeds win.

Features: - Procedurally generated desert - Fast Paced first-person gameplay - Weapon upgrade system

Extremely addicting gameloop. Big number go bigger, more enemy spawn faster, gun guy go faster. Also the knockback mechanic on the gun makes mobility much more interesting.

I'd recommend downloading and playing the exe version, not because there is anything wrong with the webGL but because the graphics are nice and atmospheric enough it's just a better experience and sometimes having the full-screen visibility is useful.
I'd also recommend not launching yourself directly upwards into the air with a high knockback, high bullets cannon. There are tumbleweeds in the sky!

This is my favourite so far this ludum dare! Great art, and love the atmosphere and procedural landscape. The frantic chasing of the upgrades is so fun. It just feels so good to play. I'll definately come back and play this later.

Pretty nice game. It's funny when you trip on a rock and instantly get smothered by dozens of tumbleweeds. They are absolutely ruthless. I also love that my gun fires bombs.

The game is really fun to play! The movement and the knockback you get when shooting feels really good, it feels like it has a good amount of weight to it. Really nice job, love to see more!

It's very stressful to turn around and see a lot of enemy right behind us :open_mouth:

Good game

I like the idea to only shoot once every 10 seconds. Was really fun to get overrun by enemies and then kill of them with one bullet :)

I've never done procedural generation, so I appreciate you bundling the source code! I had no idea it would be so simple.

@tj101010 yea ikr, the perlin noise function is a lifesaver. It's crazy how much ~30 lines of code can do

I like the idea and your gameplay is great, I think the game could have even more feedbacks to make explosions more impactful!

Those are some aggressive tumbleweeds! It reminds me of this movie called Rubber where a homicidal car tyre chases people down and murders them :joy:

I found it quite relaxing to run around the desert, never shooting anything, just trying to collect as many chests as possible.

...that was until I turned around after a minute or two of just gliding in one direction :scream:

I've seen this idea done before in the Jam. By adopting a first person perspective and 3d environments it definitely makes for a very different mood.

I plays really well the only thing is that because of the first person view I get surprised every time I get hit from behind while trying to shoot any target, it might make for a very challenging aspect of the game though!

Really enjoyed this game, well made! I've never been scared of tumbleweeds before, even chased them (Don't Starve) but now I'll be more cautious haha!
