RAT FRONTIER by rubentipparach

[raw]
made by rubentipparach for Ludum Dare 56 (JAM)

Game about rats colonizing the space. It's not done yet, I just want to take a good long nap after stressing over this thing for like 3 days. I'll work on it some more when I wake up.

Edit: ok I woke up, sorry I took such a long nap.

What is this game? It's a space colonization game set in a rat version of Earth and the solar system. You select your ratty factions, buy rocket parts to either sell, or boost into Low Earth Orbit. Both of these actions cost money, you can always skip a round to raise some money, in the future there will be a time limit! You can then fuel your rocket and move around. Be careful when planning your trips or you might get stranded!

Features: - inspired by real rocket science! - nodes model levels of energy required to get into a stable orbit at that altitude. - fuel and weight are crucial factors to moving around, your rocket burns up fuel and gets lighter. Or you made it too heavy and it'll be clunky and wasteful to move around. - Every patent comes with requirements, to get an efficient and functioning rocket, dig through the pile of cards in the market! Don't worry about too many cards, can always flip them for quick cash!

Future Endeavors: - I'm working on mining and industrializing space! You will be able to colonize all over the solar system in the next build.

The gameplay looks really interesting, the visuals too. The concept of a card game is intriguing

I would love to see a tutorial menu or an explanation because I never got to fire the thruster and just ended up making a long boi ratship :P

Yo, thanks all for playing my game! I've finally completed the bare minimum of what I wanted to do with the jam, minus prospecting/industrialization stuff, What I have now allows you to raise money, buy parts for you rocket, and fuel up for a go into earth orbit and back. I'm gonna keep updating this little toy project as I believe the game design it was inspired by is solid, and works really well for a PC turn based strategy game. Colonization of space will now commence.

Looks like a very interesting concept! I was a bit confused about what to do. It could definitely have used a tutorail, but the game looks great! there is definitely potential and congrats on managing to finish!

The game has a lot of potential, good assumptions while I think that 3 days to create a nice working demo is not enough. However, the project is worthy of interest

Very interesting idea, I like the animals you drew very much. The gameplay may need some improvement, I think more time can be invested to improve it!
