In Space, No One Can Hear You EXPLODE! by CataclysmicKnight

While exploring space, you discovered the edge of the universe! Worse yet, you quickly realize it's shrinking, and space is... acting up around here. Asteroids and debris are flying everywhere and space itself is assaulting you with wacky gravity and solar flares, but those aren't quite as bad as the literal assault from other spaceships as they race to escape. Oh, and your crew isn't taking this well, and managing them is nearly impossible...
In Space, No One Can Hear You EXPLODE is a roguelike survival tabletop game in which you're managing the energy you get per day (represented by dice) to handle threats, repair your ship, and get damaged more while racing toward the nearest warp gate. Just remember: all that matters is that your reactor makes it, the rest of the ship can fall apart, it's fine. You just won't get the dice-manipulation abilities of those destroyed rooms, and you'll be much more likely to take even more damage.
As this is a tabletop game, there's a rulebook to read (whether you play the digital implementation or the print and play version). I understand this is asking a lot more than video games, and I absolutely understand if you skip this game and move on to another. :D
I really enjoyed making this, and I wrote a rather huge postmortem/design journey of the creation of this game. I also wrote about Ludum Dare, what it means to me, and more, and will continue to do so. The Ludum Dare jams are some of my favorite experiences of the year. 🧡 You can find all of my Ludum Dare tagged posts here.

YES!!!! A reminder card of how to play the game is on the top of my post-jam to-do list, but I hadn't even considered recapping the theme as well, I like that! Thanks :D
Congrats on beating it and thanks so much for the kind words :D
* I find the wording between damaged and destroyed a bit confusing, therefore I was at first not sure whether a damaged room still protects the reactor (but I think the rules state that clearly once you realize the difference between damaged and destroyed)
* When should I reshuffle the threats? I just did it after every round
* I almost missed that I can repair my ship in the repair and flip phase (and was very confused that it was named like this) I think this shouldn't be in the exceptions block but in the How to play section step (4)
* In the online version it might be possible to miss that you can flip the instructions
But these things weren't really too much of an issue for me. It is very hard to communicate the rules for a tabletop game by text and even if you did it perfectly I would never be 100% certain if I do it correctly.
It was actually a really fun game after I got the hang of it! I had fun strategically matching the dices and managed to clear the game (at least to my rules ) Maybe it would have been cool if you get one additional enery dice after the REPAIR+FLIP and the game gets a bit more difficult in the second half. But still great work!
I also love the idea of gaining an extra die after the first half to allow for a more difficult second half of the game. It would also make sense for that "repair and flip" space to be like a planet or something where you can repair, get an additional energy die (maybe by way of saving people from the planet as you race past, but also some of them are capable of helping, so you get additional energy from them), and then race toward safety. That adds some cool theme vs just "Oh hey here's this random point in space where everything is okay in the middle of all the chaos!" 🤣
As for when to shuffle the threats, it's intended that you reshuffle them at the repair & flip spot. There are exactly enough cards to get you through each half without shuffling :D
And OMG the rule page flipping!!! For the longest time I actually had it in upside-down, and only after someone pointed out that the rules made little sense did I realize I messed that up 🤣🤣🤣
And thanks for the kind words, too! Having a fun core mechanic means that everything else can be polished up and improved 🥳
And well, reshuffeling too often hopefully didn't change the game too much
