Room Life by LDJam user 372635

[raw]
made by LDJam user 372635 for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

Alina is a girl who lives and works in the limited space of her room. You can interact with objects, talk to her friend on the PC, and experience a little of her daily life and struggles with burnout.

A tiny point-and-click narrative experience made on Godot 3.5 and My first ever experience in a game jam :)

Version Updates: ---------------

1.0.0 - Initial version

1.0.3 - Bug fix related to the energybar doesn't updating properly, the sitting animation not playing sometimes and some spelling mistakes at day 3 and 7.

Controls:

Left-click to move the character or interact with objects

Notes: * To play the game at fullscreen resolution use the link to the itch io page * After working, click to make the character get out of the chair. * If you need to work again, you have to make her sit down once more. * The game has 4 playable days (being one of them really small) and a small ending cutscene.

Tools: * Godot 3.5.3 as the game engine. * Dialogic Addon for Godot to handle the dialogues. * Aseprite for pixel art and animation.

I love the art as well as the mood of this game! It was really cute. I had a bug I think at day 2 because she crashed on the bed and wouldn't get up to do anything anymore. This was very relatable!

@adele-illustration Thanks for playing! I'm happy you liked it! :) So bad it bugged for you, sorry. At the end of the 3rd day it was suposed to happen a little cutscene and she staying in the bed for a little longer. Maybe was around this point :/
I'll take a close look, since here seems to be fine. But thanks for playing and huge thanks for the feedback!

Super relaxing - although I really wanted to leave the apartment. I felt that the space was so limited!! :)

As someone who works from home, this game really resonates with me. Very cozy and nice artwork! Congrats!

Very nice. I love the art and sound design. I also found the directional audio interesting, but it got a little annoying when I was at the computer for a while because the music was going only into my left ear. Really good for your first jam.

The art is insane and mood is great. Options are quite few but i know three days time is very limited so great work. Very relaxing.

Short but (bitter)sweet, the story accurately captures that feeling where a lot of us have frequently experienced, but rarely noticed. Pixel art is superb. I especially like the part where she goes to bed after an exhausting day.

Great entry!!

This was really relatable and vulnerable! I loved every little detail you put into the interaction animation, everything was very believable. The gameplay got a little stale in the middle but I was touched at the end. We all need a friend like Mary! <3 thanks for this game

The art looks awesome, I like the fact that you can see buildings outside the window, kind of adds to the whole atmoshpere. I also liked the ambient theme, although it would be even better if the sound was coming not from the center (as there is no visible source?), but evenly across the room. Very relaxing experience overall, good job!

The graphics are super cute! And that last sentence "Don't try to do everything by yourself" really hit me in the feels.

I like how simple the gameplay is in this, and yet the graphics and the details in the animations makes the characters feel more alive and relatable. Great work! Wholesome ending.

The animation when she just throw herself on the bed :D Cute pixel art, very important topic that couldn't be addressed too much. It was just long enough to stay interesting till the end

@sashunyar Thanks a lot for the comment! I'm happy you liked it :) Right now I'm truly without any socialmedia, since I'm rebuilding them from skratch. But I'll soon use "@hinamarina" both on twitter and bluesky to post my stuff, you can already find me there, but not started posting yet :) Hope you could see more in the future, and a huge thanks for the interest!

Lovely story! And of course, the art and animations are fantastic. I did feel like every time I clicked on the chair, I expected Alina to sit down immediately so the prompt asking whether you wanted to sit or not seemed a little redundant. Coupling that with having multiple subsequent tasks to do at the desk (commission work, chat, marketing, emails), and having Alina immediately stand up after completing a task -- it was a little repetitive to have to go through it over again. However, worth it regardless to get to the ending! Great job :)

The game was a pretty good representation of how it feels sometimes to deal with 0 energy. In fact when the energy bar was just greyed out, it was quite a powerful moment to me. Unfortunately emersion was a bit impacted by some spelling mistakes here and there.

I really enjoyed my experience tho :)

Wow, what an amazing game!!! The art, the atmosphere, the animation, the details... everything in this game is beautiful and stunning. It's a very relatable story, I think everyone, at somepoint, feels like don't having any energy to do anything... and that's completely normal. I loved the way this game represents it!

Nice work and nice take on the theme! ^^

This game is so... just really nice. I love the art and the story and the monotony of it all, it really hits home.
The amount of times I have said Coffee always, Coffee is love! haha

This is super enjoyable. I immediately felt relaxed and drawn in as I started the game. The graphics are really my taste. Then, the game gets very realistic. Hey, that's almost like my everyday life, only with literature translating instead of drawing! :') And I wish coffee could restore that much energy, lol xD

Poor girl, I already got her at 0 energy at the start of day 3 and she doesn't even want coffee anymore! She didn't want to even get up from bed or at least sleep some more. So that's when the game ended for me ;_;

+ I'd say for me sound effects are too loud, compared to music.
+ Felt like music is only playing in the left headphone. Checked a random youtube video - it was playing in both, left and right. But this game music - only in the left one.
+ Some words in dialogue were highlighted, and I felt like I should interact with them, but I couldn't. Maybe simply make them bold/italic to simply stress the word.
+ It would be interesting if the daytime was limited and we were on a bit of a time crunch, so to say. Adding a bit more interactable objects could be fun too. Just some ideas.
