Ludum Dare COMPO - A Solo Creation in Just 48 Hours!
I entered Ludum Dare 54, where I single-handedly crafted this game from scratch within the tight deadline of 48 hours. But what truly pushed my limits was my audacious goal: to implement an online highscore system, a challenge I had never tackled before!
Inspired by the theme 'Limited Space,' I birthed the core of the game in a mere 6 hours, leaving me with precious time to meticulously refine every detail.
Controls
- 🖱️ Left Mouse Button (Hold and Drag) - Set your angle and power.
- Full screen for best play
Game Tips
- Quick Click release to stop.
- Hold down the mouse button to slow time.
- Keep your combo alive and don't miss the pink elements to skyrocket your highscore.
Tools of the Trade
- Construct 3
- Figma
- Audacity (for my own voiceovers)
- Chiptone
- Ableton Live
- Good old Notepad 📝
Dive into the world I've created, and let's see if you can conquer the Limited Space challenge! 🚀🎮
Update
Post compo version. This has a streamer mode we’re you can -adjust audio -upload your own player -inverse controls -mode without the closing walls and time instead of super powers. -New leaderboard for this mode

I didn't know what the Super did until after I died, it could be nice if there was an on-screen indicator on the edges letting you know to hit them.
Come back later for a good rating
aaah i can't manage to put myself on the top 10 leaderboard hahaha
i totally see how our games are related. i loved playing yours, it is funny how it's a mix of fast and slow pace. i really liked the simple art (but i'm not a fan of the font however), great job!
- Super stylish
- Highscores!
Most polished game I tried so far. You know how to make it juicy!
Keep combo up en try to hit 2 or more blocks will boost your score quickly.
The line to the block is the angle and the length the power. This is so you can click everywhere otherwise you get stuck on the wall/darkness.
I’ll try and rate yours soon .
Thank you for the review!
Thank you for the feedback/rating.
Very fun and polished
You really got me hooked with the mechanics. At the beginning I did not understand how this could be deep gameplay, but then I realized the the full potential of the time slowing!
Super proud of you. Keep up the great work 💖
(Also, I'd delete the malicious leaderboard entries)
I could have done a better job with the tutorial page .
You pressed I get it :)
Thanx for the vote !
The slowmow in particular helps so much .
Made it to the top 10 >:)
- After some multi-kills it could be hard to see the player with all the debris flying around
- At first I thought you sometimes randomly bounce off of enemies, then I figured you bounce off when going at high speed and go through when going slowly, which fells weird.
- At the very beginning I thought you had to drag the player object, which I found to be hard, then I figured I can click anywhere on the screen.
Only issue I had with is that it is hard to see my cube sometimes.
The bleu block bounce you back the rest you slice trough.
Thank you for listing the tools you used to create your game. Maybe I need to include such a list too; I learned about a couple of things from the others this jam. For instance, I always used sfxr, but apparently there is also a bfxr which has more features.
Now, regarding the game. Even the itch io page is fancy.
I personally don't like that pixel-style font as it's not very readable, but I guess it fits the overall style. :)
The music is... great. It's so much better than something I can make it's somewhat embarrassing. I need to get better on this front. :D
Have you used Chiptone to create it? I may give it a try.
How much time did it take to make it?
I would also like to watch a video how you created that music track.
The good music adds so much to the experience so I'm really interested how to create a good music in such limited time.
The voices in the game be like: "double kil... ouch ouch ouch" xD
Tons of fun.
This game is hard to play with a touchpad (at least for me). I guess that's to be expected from a game like that. I had to take my lil old mouse to do it properly. :D
The online leaderboard... I can't even believe it's real. :D Lemme try submitting some score...
And holy cow, it works. I managed to get somewhere around the rank=25. :D
How did you manage to make a server for a compo game, that IS impressive.
When the field became so small I was so excited when it grown back for a while. This is a cool touch.
I think this is one of the best compo games I played this far.
Also, thank you for playing my game. :3
N-nani?! ... Masaka!
I see you taken the time to write a good feedback .
Much appreciate that.
The music is made mostly in Ableton live . This programme is super but payed . The melody I find easy in chiptone (all took about an hour) then I divided to split the audio and make it 3 layers witch activate on hoger combo level to add juice to the game .
So in this case 3 tracks play at the same time.
I fade them in and out.
Most time went in the polish.
Explosions
Side walls
Tweaking slow
The hit pause / flash and sound.
2 hours recording voices and redo them over and over.
The online highscore whas actually pretty simple ( I have a db) website I don’t use.
Have to admit that I followed a guide to get the logic going. ( I’m not a wizkid).
He was just amazed by the game just like I was.
(Yes, I shared the game in a couple of chats as an example of a very polished compo game :D)
Touch controls need work for it to feel great.
Glad you still liked it.
I’ll try in a few weeks to make a mobile version of it .
Thank you for te rating !
This is just great.I don't know what else to say
*Mention me if anyone dares to break my record* :sunglasses:

I honestly have no words to describe how good and addictive this game is!
Feels super good to play.
The mechanics are similar to Fruit Ninja, but very well implemented
Great submisson!
Thank you for the generous compliment!
This could also be reall fun in like a 'relax' mode where the camera zooms out -- or even just if the game play area is infintely large -- could be a cool livestream where no-one even needs to play, just watch the lil guy meander thru space, accidentally getting combos just by existing! haha!
PS, what tool did you use for the leaderboards?
The leaderboard is just some php files I made in nodepad. Then on an empty db I put a table with the tools from provider.
Then in game use Ajax at the right events.

I couldn't get the high score because I was bouncing off blue cubes but had a lot of fun playing the game!
Combo sound effects are hilarious. I think I found a bug once when killing one cube counted as killing multiple, and the combo guy was yelling 'Super kill' until the end of the game. 😁
Great job!

But these are just personal takes. The game looks sounds and feels great to play and as everybody can see there is even a large competetive player base xD
Do agree that the ball out should trigger later.
Suggestions:
- that first "Pull to start" ending up flinging me off to my death, so maybe something more gentle to start?
- I wish the player Cube was on top of everything, it got easily lost in the mix with all the explosions and combo text, which once or twice meant I lost because I couldn't see the player.
Anyway, overall a very polished and juicy entry! Well done :)
Putting the cube on a higher layer is the first thing I’m gonna try. Thank you for the play an feedback.
I totally agree with your feedback.
Great job!
I am happy you liked it !
Wanted to ask for score chasers if you were fine with me playing some gameplay of your game in the background + play the music from your game in the waiting period. (As well as if you were fine if I played your game music while competitors are playing your game if it gets picked as one of the games played in the competition). In the waiting periods its going to play tracks from games one at a time (entire track unless the waiting period ends) and while a track is playing itll cycle through gameplay from a bunch of different games in the background
Super polished, simple mechanics, pretty addicting... but I suuuuuck at it lol. I was a little confused during gameplay exactly what the difference was between the different colored blocks, so I kinda just went wild. The time slowdown was really slick, it feels great to play! Incredible for a jam game.
The space (darkness) can be hit if you have a full super to knock it back. You get a full super when you kill 3 pink blocks.
Yes, my goal this jam simple game a lot of polish time. Thank you for the review.
This means a lot 🥹

Good lord this is addictive. I love the juicy explosions, the voice overs, it's a great time. My only complaint is it's darn near impossible to see the player when you have wild combos happening. Especially considering the player is just a while outline, with swarms of particles covering your location, it's impossible to follow where you are, especially if a blue square is in on the mix. Perhaps always rendering the player on top could help. Lots of fun, great work!
The other version is for idle play more ore less.
Do agree with the tutorial, wish I had time for a Video tutorial 48 hours was a little to short for that.
When I say some parts are awkward I really just mean the controls which could be a little tighter, tutorial menu, and transition from losing the game to the leaderboard page. It's mostly side things like UI and I'm willing to overlook for a game jam, its not too much of an issue tbh. Controls also aren't bad by any means, they could just be a little bit better.
