made by jk5000 for Ludum Dare 54 (COMPO)

Blow Ball This is a simple two player game. Each player has a fan and the aim is to push a ball towards the opponent's side. Every time you push the ball out on the opponent's side, you earn a point. Whoever gets 5 points first wins.

Help

The power meter shows you how much power the fan blow with, the longer down it is the less blow power you have left.

Player 1 (Blue):

  • A and D to move the fan to the sides

  • Hold down W to blow

  • S to use a "super blow"

Player 2 (Red):

  • Left and Right arrow to move the fan to the sides

  • Hold down Up arrow to blow

  • Down Arrow to use a "super blow"

Other Controls: - R to restart level - Escape to quit the game

Good luck and have fun

If you have difficulty running the game, you could try the LowSpec-version. It might help, but the visuals is not as good.

I'm sorry, but 240 mb is too much for my connection

Too bad that my PC can't run it, even on low spec. I can run small UE4 games usually nevertheless

Cool game, even though I missed an AI to play singleplayer, because my girlfriend simply demolished me during our playtest. Now, for the actual feedback: It seems that the special blow is not effective when the ball is close to the fan. Besides that, we had fun and it was cool to see a split screen game again.

I played with a friend. Controlls are easy, art is simple, the game feels like an arcade. We enjoyed!

For a Compo game it's incredible. In addition to being able to play with 2 players, this creates a really funny table top game. Nice work :)

Nice idea, I like the GOOOOAL thingie
It would have been nice to be able to play against the AI, though. I pretty much played against myself as there is no one around to grab and have a match with at the moment

ahahahaa! this has a ton of heart and a great audio :D game is a bit like a guessing game of left and right as once a fan turns one way, the other player has only a little chance to react but it is still a great submission. Love the audio and music! Wonderful.

Interesting idea for a multiplayer game, I think the angle of the camera makes it hard to react when the ball gets moving in one direction. Maybe pull it back a bit. Also, after "blowing" for a while it felt like i wasn't applying much force

It's an interesting spin on games like pong or air hockey, however whenever the ball goes towards the posts on the sides, it's really hard to recover. It also feels hard to outplay your opponent since the ball feels like it stays on one axis. You blow it one direction and it feels like all you can do is get right behind it and blow it right back. After playing it for a bit I learned you could kind of come in at the side for a sudo curve shot, however it's not very clear that you can do it. However, all that aside the really enjoy the representation. It's a fun little game you can play with friends. Great work!

Sadly I don't have friend to play with so I can only play on my own. Like the idea, overall a nice minigame to play with friends.

@phillips-albright thank you for playing my game. The power meter shows you how much power the fan blow with, the longer down it is the less blow power you have. This made this way so you don't just keep the blow button key down all the time. If you have a "super blow" you can use this to push the ball over the edge.

A nice, fun game, a little hard to understand how the physics work at first, but enjoyable after a few games.

@snesgaard I have uploaded an Linux version. It's untested, and my experience making games for Linux is a bit mixed, so I will not guaranty it will work. But you are welcome to give it a try.

Really well done - a game to play against my friends at work :) The main mechanics are clever - and you managed the theme unusually. The controls are smooth. It could be improved with a simple IA. Somewhere it reminds me of an old game (more or less) similar - **Shufflepuck Cafe** (do you remember?). Have you planned to add opponents which the game could control? You made a solid Compo entry. Thank you for this smile on my face. Thanks for your comment. I wish you the best ++

@geckoo1337 I had never played or seen 'Shufflepuck Cafe'. I can't say I am inspired by one game, but more of a genre of games.

I have not considered AI-opponent for jam version of the game. I understand that a lot people wants to play against a AI, but the idea for me is to make a local multiplayer game. I want people to play against each other, and if I have given it an AI there would have been a real risk, that nobody would have played the multiplayer part of the game. For me it's more impotent that some of you tries the game as it's intended to be played, then it is that most people chooses to play the game alone.

- Cool, but I had to play with myself, on account of not having anybody, simple ai would be appricietead.
- I found it a little confusing, albeit maybe because I played as 2 player against myself, but I often moved in the wrong direction, it's a little weird because when you click to the left you move to the left and shoot to the right, when defending I would think of moving and when attacking I would think of shooting, so it felt like the controls (in my head) were inverting themselves depending on the position of the ball.

A great tabletop game. I would've liked being able to play single player games, but an AI is difficult to implement in 48 hours. Well done!

Made the fans in my PC superblow! Haha fun game and idea, I love that you made a 2 player game. The music is a vibe, loved it!

It's solid as is, would be fun with a CPU and arcade mode but obviously, 48 hours. Also the graphics need to be less demanding, not necessary for this style of game.

Thanks for the fun jam!
