This is a great all rounder! I love the pacing and the audio design is very nice and fits the vibe perfectly. I struggled at first looking more at the speech bubble unsure what to do until I realised what each of the arrow keys did.

That’s the best game I played on this jam so far; clever idea, lovely art style, hilarious concept, really well paced (except maybe the last bit, I don’t find the idea of waiting for another train that fun to play, maybe a button for skipping?), the jellyfish is a really good idea The tracklist is also truely good, as well as the sound design. Everything is responsive, easy to play and really exciting. Keep up the good work!

Such a fun and cute game!! Really good way of using the theme limited space, it was very satisfying getting the right shape in. I love the art style and the music accompanying it as well. Maybe an underrated feature of the game but I really like the intermission periods between levels to reset the player too!

This is brilliant, I don't think there's anything you could have done better. Soundtrack is awesome, art style is charming, gameplay is clever, easy to learn yet challenging, loved how you wrote instructions. Even the "waiting" is great, it forces the player to be disciplined.

You guys are experienced and it shows, this is a near perfect jam game. Did I mention how awesome that soundtrack is?

Very fun core gameplay loop, definitely enjoyed fiddling around with it. Sound design is solid, though I feel like some of it could have been softened a little because over an extended period of time it does feel a little bit jarring.

Fairly solid entry overall!

This is so fun. It's a simple concept executed amazingly and it's so cute and funny. The jellyfish idea is so smart, especially having it show up juuuust a little bit after the doors open; it forces the player to hold on and see if there's a little kiddo coming. I laughed out loud when the whale showed up. Beautiful. I really like the credits roll as well, and the haiku hints were clever. Amazing entry!

Adorable, and the art and music is lovely. I really struggled in general (at first), and I could never understand the jellyfish for some reason. I stole every single train. I thought I had to wait a bit, nope. Tried to choose a position where they could fit too, nope. Anyway, I still very much enjoyed the game, the little poetry bits, and the credits scroller at the end was cool to see in a jam game. :)

this is amazing! the progression is very smart, i'm a big fan of the final piece of depth adding specifically to high-score seeking, via making you sometimes have to have the opposite of lighting-fast reaction time. the artstyle is very pretty and the music is so so so comfy and fits the lounge aesthetic great. super endearing game and one of the best takes on the theme

As far as cute sea-themed games go, you knocked it out of the park! All components come together so well to create a cohesive and cozy experience. It feels like a game you'd play to wind down, with the muted pastel colours in the art and the passive nature of the gameplay. It's very much a sit and react game where it took a bit of figuring out how to react to certain scenarios, but the fun part of the game was just figuring out how the game wanted me to position myself. The game was also very generous in letting you continue forward or retry the current level, so you never feel pressured to HAVE to retry (I retried anyway but only cleared level 3 with no misses).

Great work with the music and the woodwinds. I love how everything feels relaxed and uplifting but also lively, which is strange given how laid back the rest of the elements feel. But it works! The woodwinds were such a nice touch and the chiptune works well with the art style. As far as sound effects go, I think most of them were satisfying and worked with the music/aesthetic. The only sound I couldn't get behind was the train sound at the beginning of each level. It sounds really garbled - which I imagine is to make it sound like it's underwater, but it comes across as really unsettling and uncomfortable to listen to and it doesn't go that well with the rest of the sound effects. I always felt a little off-put every time I started a level before the music kicked in.

I was also wondering if the game supported keyboard controls in the menus once you're in the game itself. I noticed I could bring up the settings menu with the keyboard, but to progress through the actual levels or even the haiku, it seemed like I could only use the mouse. Honestly it feels like the entire game could have used more keyboard controls for UI stuff or at least when going through the haiku lines.

Overall, I think the game is super well executed and I love the experience it brings and the emotions it makes me feel. I do love that touch of the haikus serving as the in-betweens of levels and hints of what's to come. The soundtrack is lively and fun and I will go and buy it now.

This game is quite challenging to say the least, with the timer rushing you and you have to quickly figure out what position to put the fish in so it can fit made the game really difficult and I love that, the artwork was really simple yet really nice, the music was also really relaxing to the ears making this a really refined game!

5 stars - favourite game so far! I love the vibes, the music and SFX is spot on, excellent interpretation of the theme. Lots of cute and funny moments, the haikus were a lovely touch, and the credits filled me with joy! The only thing is that I felt it was a little short, and the puzzles were pretty easy and left me wanting more development of the mechanics. Letting the jellyfish through first is nice, but I didn't feel like it actually added to the puzzle at all, it was more just a thing I needed to be aware of. However, I'm personally always for easier puzzles over harder ones (and jam games are almost always on the harder end, so this was refreshing). Overall, a fantastic and very polished experience. Thank you!

Very cute art and mood! The gameplay is intuitive enough to start with, and gets pleasantly challenging. I really liked how the playing is at the same time relaxing and engaging. The timer for the input keeps it engaging, but at the same time there's no hard consequences for missing trains. One can enjoy the atmosphere so much more this way!

You completely blew my expectations out of the water! I know it's just day 2 of play and rate, but this is the best game I've played from the jam so far. The artwork is adorable, the music and sound effects are great, the haikus and creative, and the gameplay is FUN. I love how you expanded on the idea each stage- it felt like a really natural progression, and it always added something new.

I recorded myself playing, and despite having a rocky start, I figured it out and I seriously enjoyed this one. Cheers!

An innovative take on the theme, and a good one at that. It is a puzzle game with the added stress of having to hurry up and figure out how to squish the fish into the space before the doors close. There was a bit of a learning curve for me as it took me a few cars to figure out what I was looking for vs what key I was supposed to press. I do like that you tried to make it extra easy by just starting with 'up' or 'down' before adding in the 'left' or 'right'. I also loved the underwater fish theme. Great job.

Absolutely fantastic! I don't really have anything bad to say about it.

![Screenshot 2023-10-03 at 19.49.52.png](///raw/1e4/3/z/5f4ec.png)

Lovely art style with great looking cast of colorful characters and lovely sounds. Nice pacing and decent amount of replayability with all the different modes and fun poems in between. After playing quite a bit of different modes it does start getting a bit repetitive with so little variety in the different configurations but of course it's not even designed to keep people playing that long I guess.

That one car with a space that kinda looks like it'd be an upside down L but is too tall and needs to go straight was the biggest pain in my ass.

Why was Joel not there in the rush mode?

Going into real nit pick territory here as there isn't much at all to critique about. The scoring is kinda weird. You're scored based on trains caught and time taken but both are partly out of your hands as needing to wait doesn't give you a mark for catching a train (hence not 100 on my rush score) and time can be really hurt by getting hit by needing to wait those filled train cars too.

But yeah, awesome job! 👍 I want more... 🤩

This is actually an incredible game, love the space you used, love the audio and sfx, easy to understand, love the cute art and fishes, the challenging aspect is really good, kept me going and repeating it. Usually the games I repeated were because I didn't understand the objective in the game, but here it was different. Keep up the good work. aah wow this is awesome!!! man, thinking about the consequences of the visual design's impact on a game's difficulty is really cool. love how such a simple gameplay setup creates such a rich experience for any player skill level, by simply allowing you to proceed at your own pace (that is, that the difficulty is entirely limited by your own ability).

i think the only feedback i have is that there's no repercussion to simply spamming space to let the jellyfish on without needing to think about it. the fix for this could be a double-whammy by having space also skip the train, to eliminate the need to wait on full trains. though, i really do like "waiting" as a gameplay mechanic, forces you to appreciate the surroundings more :)

really lovely art, really lovely music. another wonderful experience from you guys :)

The haiku are where it's at. Even with the instructions of "let's stick to up and down" in the first level, I really wasn't understanding what the controls were or what the point was until near the end of the level. I guess that could be intentional to encourage experimentation on the part of the player. I just found it hard to get. Maybe it's just me.

Cute and a fun concept. I can't believe this was made with Ren'py. A good engine, but I have never seen it make something so different from a VN. Must have been a lot of work.

My one issue was that I never figured out what to do in level 4 when the giant fish was taking up the whole car.

Graphics were great, music was great, and the reaction-based gameplay was simple but very fun. Only gripes were that you can't progress through text with the spacebar or arrow keys (you can only use the mouse) and that having to wait for the trains to leave in the final level slightly dampens the rapid-fire gameplay. 5/5 jam game

Well done! Fun game, good graphics! I wish there was a penalty for mashing space, and it was a little unclear at first that the seaweed(?) at the top would block you from standing up straight (i think?) but otherwise a lovely game with a good aesthetic and challenge.

Unarguably the best game for reaction speed test ever made, this game can't be described by just words! It's just too perfect for just a 72h deadline. Everything in this game is super outstanding and incredibly creative. You guys even put haiku in it and it was make in ren'py, it's just, how..? Don't really understand what to do in the game. Unclear what the icons mean, unclear what counts as a right and a wrong train. Unclear gameplay, unclear game, makes it quite boring to play, sorry, I just can't have a high rating for this one

Very cute. Really enjoyed playing it. The music is spot on and the fish are so cute . Just as an idea, maybe prevent too many of the packed trains in a row. I had like 3 or 4 full trains in a row in the last level which really took the pacing out as you have to wait for the timer.
I also really like the touch with the credits and that all the fish have names.

I can see why this has so many ratings and comments!

I really enjoyed playing. The music, sound effects and graphics were all really well done. I also loved how each different position was introduced. It wasn't clear to me what I was supposed to do with the "stolen" trains. Was that good, or bad? It seemed like most of the little jellyfish would have been able to fit after I got on...

Very good job!

Ok i love it too all around 4~5 stars. But there is one tiny thing i dislike: Nothing in the game uses the mouse but between levels we are forced to. Just accept any keypress as well or perhaps just space.

Anyway - great game and a very cute credit sequence.

Edit: just saw your comment above xD
But enter is a bit out of the way too. I still keep suggesting any key to progress text.
SnekOfSpice
06. Oct 2023 · 15:37 UTC
this was so good!!

While you did clarify in another comment, enter is so atypical and out of the way of where your hands typically are, other input to advance text would've been nice. Also, idk what caused this but the game took 2 screenshots in the beginning? I'm guessing some UI element unintentionally grabbed focus or sth

Small input issues aside, this was phenomenal! The haikus were cute, the artwork was really effective and vibey, and overall it's just a cool cute game. I found the lantern fish to be a bit too difficult to make out at a glance, like their form takes up so much space I often just missed that I could squeeze into their mouth. but these are all minor nitpicks and I really enjoyed my time!

This game was awesome! I loved the artstyle and the music and the gameplay was simple but really engaging. Only crtique I can think of is that I found the fourth round to be a bit underwhelming, because I wasn't crazy about having to wait for some of the cars to pass by.

Is it legal for a game to be this cute?

A simple idea taken to such a polished degree it feels like a retail game. The art is absolutely adorable, super coherent, and goes perfectly with the audio.

Gameplay is simple but has a logical progression, and keeps introducing new mechanics without overwhelming the player.

Great work!

This was an insanely cute entry. What a simple game yet packed with lots of fun. Good progression and nice little bits of candy for the player: the haikus, the end credits, the cute little names. A bunch of good stuff. Very impressed this was done in renpy as well, not because it seems complex but because it's very innovative for the kind of games I ususally see in renpy!

After figuring out the controls this was a fun game of pattern matching! Cute fish, awesome music and sweet artsy poetry in-between the stages. +++ for making "like sardines in a can" so literal!

Very cute game!! Love the cute graphics and characters. The music and sounds fit really well too. I was a little confused about the icons in that the fish had above its head at first, I feel like I would have liked a mini arrow keys UI that had the icons to better drive that connection of fish shape to button input. Overall, well done!

This was simple but very polished and wholesome. I sat down and couldn't stop until I completed the entire game! It really left a smile in my face.

The underwater stations with trains packed like sardines reminded me a lot of Unreal Life. The cute sound and art really helped set the vibe. A perfect 5 on all of those aspects.

The only nitpick I'd give is that it was unclear how to move the jellyfish. I tried different things until I just
gave up and clicked on him... and it worked. Obvious in hindsight but missed a couple of trains because of that.

The fish poses are mapped to the arrow keys. I think a cross shaped layout for the poses would immediate convey that better than a square. It became second nature after doing it a few times so not a big issue.

Overall an excellent entry. You guys seem to be participating as a team in a quite a few jams and I'm definitely interested to see what you'll be making next.

I know I'm just preaching to the choir at this point, everything about this game is so great, and above all else, every element by itself elevates the others, making the final experience more than the sum of its parts. While the gameplay itself is nothing groundbreaking per say, the contextual package of the artwork, sound, and overall polish is just so palpable and really elevates things. Also, how can the game have so much content?! For real, everyone involved should be proud!

Extremely charming! Really loved this game, well done. The art, music, and mechanics are all cute and go hand in hand with one another. This is a great example of a game being good for reasons beyond gameplay alone. The mechanics are relatively basic but have the perfect amount of depth to them for the type of game this is. All in all, I give this game two thumbs up. Maybe my favorite entry so far.

WOOOOOOOoooowwwwwwwww, this game is really polished !

Lovely concept, amazing execution, I love the artstyle and the characters, the music is very cool too !
I wish there were a bit more different levels tho, there practicall only one level with the jellyfish guy that just comes over and over, maybe something with different characters would be cool too !

Like having to chose very fast between sardine's shape and idk another character (even just the jellyfish who can either stand or lay down on the floor would be an interesting concept.

Still, amazing game ! Hope you can make a fuller version one day, but this one is already very polished and complete (you even have settings omg, and credits ??? damn)

Great lob on this !

Took me a second to figure out what I was supposed to be doing but after that I had fun stuffing sardines into trains.
