promo.gif After a busy and stressful life in the modern world, you decided to lose yourself to the sea… but a Seagull showed you the way to a secret place and now you are about to create your own village on… Seagull Island !

As you build your village, you'll gradually learn how to collect points and make your final score higher and higher! If you get stuck and can't build any more, that's okay, we'll start again. And again. And again.

Post your highest scores and your oddly shaped villages!

Post-jam patches:

03.10.2023: fixed exploitable bug when dropping elements above the top of the game screen.
03.10.2023: fixed ability to build on top of laundry thread. (Nobody noticed, right??)
03.10.2023: placing an element near the reset button won't trigger it anymore! You can now be your greedy self and build right under it.
07.10.2023: support for mobile. You can now play on smaller screens! The game is exactly the same, only minor adjustments to the UI layout.

Very relaxing game :relaxed:. The audio and visuals really add to the mood. The building was also really fun as you want to create a nice house but also get points. Really enjoyed it! :)

Hey, this is really neat! The art got me interested, and the strategy had me playing over and over. It fit the theme well. I like the little animations and the audio, the atmosphere is great. My only thought is that the game could tell you when it is impossible to continue. Loved it!

The art and animation is incredible! Lovely colors. This is such a cute little game, the music is perfect. I played a little bit and it relaxed me after these busy last days. Here is a screenshot of my lovely little island, and when I saw the boat coming it was so cute ![LileauxGoelands.png](///raw/f46/e1/z/5e25a.png)

Also impressive that this was a custom engine :) Great job!

I very much enjoyed this game! I could easily see it having a "daily challenge" mode with a set building list. The only complaint I had was occasionally having a run ended early by getting a very tough list of buildings to use, but overall I don't think that was a detriment. Excellent, excellent work!

Couldn't get past 45. Too bad the camera does not follow the height of the builds, I could have gone higher :/

I love relaxing game like this, it reminds me of Townscaper but with an actual goal. And the art and music are :ok_hand: :ok_hand: :ok_hand:

This is so chill! I love the idea. With some polish, this could be very well done. I'm thinking in general, in the list that is given of items, there probably should be checks to make sure you have X amount of items, and then maybe sometimes have "challenge" turn, where those checks are not present, that way game has push and pull between chill, flow, and challenge! Would love to also see some synergy between buildings, colors, etc. Love it, great entry!

Very nice! The only issues I have are that the reset button is triggered when the mouse is released. This means if I was trying to place a building near the button, it would sometimes trigger and reset the game :(. This is very interesting idea. I think with different shaped bases or perhaps different levels with obstructions on the sides and more bonuses this could be even better than it already is.

High score of 77. I think I just got lucky lol.

Great game!
I tried playing it on my phone and it worked like a charm!

Too bad the camera doesn't span or zoom out to allow us to build event higher.

The vibe of your game is really good. The art and the music goes really well together, event though the music loop get a little bit boring after a while. A longer loop would have been awesome.

The gameplay is really simple yet fun and challenging. A great entry!

I like this game. It's a fun little puzzle? rouge like? I guess. It has a lot of luck for what buildings you get here is my score.![Screenshot 2023-10-03 105953.png](///raw/4dc/d4/z/5f446.png) the extra five points are from a small mart that is out the top of the screen. got lucky and that was my last draw.

I love the music and the art it makes it a lovely homey vibe, it was fun to learn what all the combos for buildings where. still not sure I saw them all but it was an enjoyable game.

All in all wonderful game. Thanks for the share. Have a good day.

This is just so beautiful. It almost makes me tear-eyed. The art and the sound first made me think of Fez, one of my all-time favorite games. And it's very reminiscent of Townscaper, except this also has a gameplay element beyond "toy" (not that I mind toy, but this just captures me more).

Thank you for this experience <3

Wow, I am blown away! I think I enjoyed this game a little too much. I played it for half an hour straight and never got tired of the graphics, gameplay or music. That is a great achievement! The game was very intuitive to learn, and after a couple of tries, I got kinda good at it. I could see myself kicking back after a long day at work playing this game. Some VERY nitpicky problems I found were that you couldn't really place anything behind the restart button (well, I mean, it limited the space even more, so it fit the theme XD ). Also, there were a couple of times when I could've gone on if the screen had moved up. It would make for some crazy builds, but I understand that you probably prioritized more important aspects of the game in that short timeframe. But besides these points, I have no complaints. It's just an absolute banger of a game!

Oh and here is my high score, I know we can go further: ![Screenshot 2023-10-03 230152.png](///raw/896/44/z/5f6a2.png)

@farouchelark and @nevyn Thanks for the kind comments, and glad you enjoyed the game! As you mentionned, you can unlock the full music track by first placing the radio and then the parabola to get rid of the static noise, allowing the radio to tune itself to the song :)

@amygeddon Thank you for your comment, it's quite heartwarming!
Indeed I could see an infinitely scrolling up version of this game working, maybe with a background changing with altitude, cloud layers, starts etc. And when you're finally stuck it could scroll back down slowly showing you your tower... As you said, for the jam we wanted to keep it simple and in a limited space. Maybe we should try it a post-jam version!

Hey, what a wonderful experience! I'm not much of a cosy gamer, but I think the points element added just enough to push it into strategy territory for me. Love the ukulele as well.
I wish it would detect for me when my tower was "stuck", I ended up with a lot of situations where I felt like I could keep going but all the options were X'd when I tried.

Hello @rigel! Thanks for the compliment!
As for the scoring system, I'm not going to give it all away, as it's the whole point of the game to figure out how it works, but here's a tip:
- All the pink, yellow and orange buildings are residential modules, and they earn points when they're next to, on top of or under a "special" module (like the flower store, or the museum, for example), and depending on the characteristics of each special module, you'll get some points :) Good luck !

Very cute, I especially like the music/audio and how well it fits with the game. My only suggestion would be to automatically detect when there are no more moves - or I'm very bad at finding moves, I did three runs trying to lock myself in and couldn't trigger a "no more moves".

this was such a lovely entry, I played for many many times and aimed to build aesthetic towns rather than scoring high! I felt like the art and audio and the game play fit each other perfectly, I especially enjoyed how the music changes as you start to get a higher score. In some runs the rng was reaaaally bad and I had only a few buildable pieces. But in some other runs I felt like I was always getting the ones I wanted haha. It felt a little bad that I had to restart and it would destroy my little town, I wish there was a way to collect them in a little archive :D

Really cozy, love the relaxing atmosphere. Great art, sound and music. One improvement could be to have the blocks snap to the center of the cursor when dragging them, so the grid snapping is consistent when moving over the buildings to add the piece. I found that if I started dragging while clicking on a corner of the piece, the snappning felt off and inconsistent. Really lovely game!

I will just join everyone to say that this game is incredible. I loved the relaxing feel of this game. All parts contribute to it: the gameplay, the wonderful art, the soothing music and the nice ambient noises such as seagulls in the background. Even the fact that a boat comes by to visit at somepoint feels really nice. It feels like a really wholesome game to me.

Have you ever heard of the game 'townscraper'? Your game really reminds of that, but with more interesting gameplay. Really amazingly well done! I absolutely loved it :D

Really unique and relaxing atmosphere. The art and sound design complement each other nicely. I had a hard time figuring out some rules of placement (it seems sometimes I was able to place parts over existing ones and replacing them, and sometimes I just couldn't) and the random draw was a bit frustrating on some runs, but it's so addictive I just kept on playing for more. I have been watching and playing a lot of vertically expanding/stacking games lately and it was such a pleasant thing to see one on this jam. I like this gameplay concept a lot. Totally would play a full version of city building like this.

Art is good for this one surely, but if 2d I would love to have something more moody and detailed for a full game. It can be 3d, it can have other mechanics too, sorry for being pushy but this concept really rocks!

It resonates with me a lot so it's all 5

All I'm saying is don't give me a building license :v Love this game, the concept, the audio, the graphics especially. Very cute. Would've loved a tutorial or a full version or some sort of tips on how to achieve the most points / best build. But it was very calming and nice to play, loved it!:D

I found myself wishing I had this on my iPhone to pull out on the train, or while standing in line. It's the perfect lightweight game, you should consider building it for that platform! My highscore was 84. There was definitely some strategy in leaving yourself open columns, in trying to get rid of the "embellishment" pieces as much as possible without compromising your build space. But I felt that you were overall pretty dependent on luck. I think that's not such a bad thing, as this is designed to be played quickly and in a relaxed way. Excellent job, would def buy on mobile.

@renrok Glad you enjoyed the game! I just uploaded an apk on itch if you want to give it a try. Tested on only 2 devices so far, I hope it works on most phones.
@pen-island-games Thank you! I might try an iOS build when I muster the courage (it's a custom engine, so not as simple as hitting a "build for ios" button, but not that hard either). In the meantime I found that the web version works quite well on my iPhone, it probably will work on yours as well :)

OMG! Sooo relaxing! I could play this the whole day easily! Quite impressive how many different objects you manage to put in the game, the overall atmosphere is just so cozy. Loved the music, the art, the title screen in wonderful! Really liked you game, great work!! :)

@seb-degaff checked the apk, it works! But a bit awkward to play, as the blocks are offset by a lot from where you tap

@renrok good to know it works! The offset when dragging is by design so you can see where you place the blocks. Maybe we could visualize it better

@seb-degraff yeah, I figured it's probably done on purpose. The offset just seemed a bit extreme, but played a bit more and it's defenitely something you can get used to!

Lovely game, really enjoyed it. Would definitely pay for a full game like this - reminds me of games like dorfromantik. The only real downside is how luck-based it feels. It probably needs some tuning in that area but it's a really neat game.

I have no idea what I am doing, but the game seems like fun with all the different combinations. I really like the mood and the audio of the game! This would be really cool with different skins/levels as a casual game. Nice work!![Seagull island.JPG](///raw/1e9/34/z/603ed.jpg)

Very soothing. I liked it a lot. C: Really pretty to look at and nice to listen to. I quite enjoyed the fact that you couldn't move things around but had to start over and over. Nice touches with the little events making things livelier. Finding all the different pieces is fun. Really well done!

One of the most charming games I played this whole jam. I just want to see my tower grow beautiful.

Somehow I'm really engaged to this, although I still suck at getting a high score. Great piece of work guys!

So cozy and relaxing! It speaks to me on a level I didn't know existed. At first I was obsessively trying to make everything symmetrical but had a few unfortunate dead-ends. Once I abandoned the idea though, the game play really shined for me.

Really nice project, I liked the graphics, and the while game experience is nice and chill. It was sometimes a bit frustrating cause the random generation of objects sometimes caused me to only have a score of 2 and sometimes 46.. Overall still a solide project that I enjoyed very very much ! Gg ! :)

**Hello there, these are notes I took while playing.**

- Calm game, so sound could be even calmer
- Add game detection to when you can't add anything anymore?
- Remove +2 indication when you can't place element
- Have small indications on what does the element need to be placed
- Option to shuffle option at the cost of points or even buildings? It would defeat the point, yes, but you would be even more invested in the town
- Limited space... oh no I understand
