CropCopter by Douwe_Ravers

[raw]
made by Douwe_Ravers for Ludum Dare 53 (COMPO)

Welcome to CropCopter

This game is about running a farm as a delivery drone. Every level you get a order you have to fulfil. If successful you can go to the next level with more advanced orders and so on.

  • post-LD update to fix some major bugs: 1/05/20
    • Start with stabilize on
    • Last level already unlocked for people who don't have time to waste.
    • Factory events now work again, all levels after 4 are now also playable.
    • Updated so pancakes and bread aren't replaced by each other in requirements tab.

Here is a gameplay video of level 8:

The web version only works on itch io. Thanks @pauvictor for giving the advice on how to do so.

How to play?

You can find the tutorial here or if you press the ? icon in the game the tutorial will also show in game.

I get a 404 when clicking the itch.io links. Is the page maybe not public?

I had problems with the web version of Godot 4 and LD website. I managed to get the web build working in itch.io, so I would suggest you upload it there. After you upload it, change the settings and enable the last option like below and all will work :)

The game looks nice but I could not really figure out how to play. I got some apples and then it did not let me get more or do anything else. Also, the controls feel really complicated/weird. (I expected the drone to stabilize and just float if I did not provide input like real-world drones try to do). Now I see there was a key for it, so I guess it is user error :D

Good - the movement controls being a bit slidy is obv. to create the challenge but at times I felt that they were perhaps too OTT on that matter? Also there isn't great feedback that you're full on items and I spent a while clicking on the highlighted apples with a full inventory. Otherwise a great experience with solid gameplay

@zirrrus the link is fixed.

@pauvictor thanks a lot that worked!
Yes I made the powerpoint to give some info haha.

@emily-ttg you can press T to get a stable flight (but slower). Thanks that is true should have made some animations for that. Thanks!

Flour never spawned for me so couldn't get past level 4?
the camera kinda works against you which is frustrating but it looks amazing!

@inesjebesje thanks, yeah you can see it as part of the challenges.

@ciderpunk ahh dahmm I know what happened there. It's like one line of code what would fix that. I will do it this evening.

Funny concept with interesting controls. It is not bad but hard to master, like a real drone i imagined
Had fun, good job.

Cool effect for the rotary blades!
The sound from the copter was super annoying to be honest. I think it sounds distorted or like a square wave or something. Would have been much more delightful to play if you had gone with a softer sound!
I like the low poly style, you did very good with making all these assets! The egg could have had a few more polys actually, had to look up what it was =) I would have reduced specular on most materials, especially the grass.
The stabilizer setting could have been remembered between the levels if you put it in a autoload script! I usually do that with everything that I think might be configurable by the player nowadays. If I create it early in the project and use it from the start it really saves a lot of trouble!
A transition using the animation player for instance would have made it much more polished when finishing a level and selecting next.
I could not find any flour bags, sadly. But had a good time til then, I really liked the feeling in the controls.
Very ambitious and cool entry, well done!

I enjoyed this one. The drone controls feel really good, I'd have preferred if collecting items didn't require the mouse click though, like having something on the drone that we had to get onto the collectable, that challenge would have been great. Otherwise great stuff.

The feeling of controlling a drone came across really well. Appreciate the in-game menu for the game explanation and once you get the hang of it, really easy to play. Flying around the levels was the best part!

I like the control it feels very smooth and realistic for a drone. At start I thought I have to reach the object to take it, but then I read the tutorial learned that it's remote picking. it's a good gameplay design! Also the tutorial is very detailed. Good job!

Cool game. The game looked and sounded good. Controls were easy to use and intuitive, although they did feel too sensitive. I couldn't find a menu or something to handle that. Overall good game. Thanks

Hey, I read your profile and it found it really inspiring! Your game was great considering it was made in just 2 days, I cannot even attempt to make 3d art that fast. The controls were fine too, on my part (unless you turn off the stabilizer then it's chaos but I guess that's a given.) Figuring out what to do was kind of hard, until I saw the tutorials. If this was an adventure game this is probably the level I'll be stuck in for awhile (mainly because I didn't know you can go inside the barn.) But I don't think that's a bad thing at all. Overall you made me very hungry too hehe. Great job!

Thanks, very glad that you thought it to be inspiring.
Congratulations on finishing the entire game
A tip for easy low poly art is to use the dyntopo with constant detail option with blender sculpting. It will deform your shapes and add additional triangles of similar size. Pretty neat stuff

Extremely relaxing game it took me about 30m to finish but that isn't a bad thing the art is nice and the background sounds are really soothing.

Cute, simple. The controls are a bit wonky but still had fun

The idea is really interesting, at first I thought would be just delivering stuff, but I like the layer of bringing stuff around to produce something else. It was fun to control the drone as well. I think is a great achievement for such short time. I also think the drone sound can get annoying after some time and the first few levels could introduce the new mechanics faster as there's not much challenge so get repetitive in the beginning. Cheers!

You're asking way too much from players to require them to review a powerpoint presentation or watch a youtube video to learn how to play a game they won't play for more than a handful of minutes!! I jumped straight into the action and didn't know what I was doing. I figured out the general controls quickly, but the objectives were inscrutable so I just gave up after flying around for a bit (visited the hens, cow, and apple trees)

The scene is pretty and the controls are solid though, and the colorful graphics and cute assets were very pleasant!

A really nice relaxing experience.
I thought it was pretty intuitive what you had to do - except for the pancakes, I couldn't identify what the model represented. But as soon as I knew, I could figure out the recipe.
There is is an 'exploit' that I used a lot - when you rapidly click a thing, you can pick it up multiple times while it is disappearing.
