Cassie The Carrier Pidgeon by haselkern

Dark times are on the village, as they are constantly under attack by an army of monsters. Food, water, medicine and letters still need to be delivered, which is where they need your help.
Get jobs at the town center and shoot your way towards the houses to score points. This is an arcade style game, so play as long as you can to increase your score! Play with WASD or arrow keys and shoot with left click.

If you're on Mac and can't play the game you might want to run "xattr -d com.apple.quarantine mac.app.zip" in a terminal, since I am not paying to be an Apple developer.
Download the "fixed" files to get a bugfix for the window size. The other files are the original versions I submitted during the compo.

I like strange ideas, and a pigeon with a machine gun, I think it's wonderful.
Also, carrier piDgeon is some inteded pun or is it just a mistake? :D
I understand that you're sticking to a certain palette, but perhaps the enemies could be made to contrast with the buildings. Enemies are now merging with buildings, so I try to avoid them so that no one suddenly approaches.
A very nice compact game loop that is a pleasure to play.
I don't know what else to say, this is the first game where I really had fun and gave some 5 stars :D
@surweaver I'm not a native english speaker and "pidgeon" is the spelling I learned at school. It's good to know that there's an updated spelling! Thanks for pointing out the contrast issue, graphics are definitely something I want to improve.
@kykypy3o8 That's weird! Is the window fullscreen by default? I thought I set it to windowed mode.

The game got quite crazy at the end, so much fun. I managed 1.410 points!
The game feels well polished. Good job
@haselkern Looks like the reason this is occurring is due to a probably accidental override on the window height and width. If you go into your project settings and remove this override it should fix it:

The game was really solid. Graphics had a good color scheme and seemed very cohesive. The music and SFX were very in line with the type of game it was. I really enjoyed the bullets exploding and the screen shake. My only complaint would probably be that the camera movement wasn't very smooth. It took some getting used to. That is a really minor quibble though and this is definitely in the top 5 best jam games I've played so far. Thanks for making it and have fun out there!
oof geniounly one of the best games I've played so far, the core loop is so addictive and the screenshake/particles/sfx enforce the feedback so darn well, I really love this entry, did you make the music yourself? It's so impressive, congrats in making such a good game in a short time!
I do wish there was less screen shaking, its difficult to see what's happening when hundreds of enemies are spawning on screen
@flashviper Balancing could be improved, that is true. Easy missions might be interesting when you're just a few $ short of the next upgrade?
@phlip45 Aha, I knew I would forget to reset that setting. Thanks for figuring that out, I uploaded a fixed version for future players.
@0x-void-x0 Yes, I made the music by mixing a bunch of samples and EQ-ing them a bit.
