DeliverZ by LDJam user 235971

[raw]
made by LDJam user 235971 for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

Please read the How to Play :)

Controls

  • F - Interact / Get in/out Van
  • Left Click - Throw Package
  • Right Click (on Van) - Eject package
  • Left Shift - Sprint
  • Left Control - Sneak

How to play

Your goal is to deliver life support packages to isolated residents of the city. Load your Van with packages and drive around, throwing the packages at people's doors. All the while, you avoid and attack any zombies that become an issue.

  • Throw packages at doors with green alerts above them. These are also visible as green dots on the minimap.
  • Throw packages at zombies to attack them, dealing damage and eventually killing them
  • You can also run zombies over with your van
  • Throw packages at the back of your van to put them into your van
  • Different actions make different sounds, louder sounds alert more nearby zombies

Because of a lack of time developing, there is no endgame other than when you have delivered 40 packages. Then the game sort of just goes stagnant. The only thing you can do at that point is die to a zombie (or go on a joy ride in the van!)

Issues

If you'd rather play a slightly-improved version with another couple hours of dev time, I'd recommend playing the [version on itch.io] (https://plokie.itch.io/deliverz). Main fix is the car controller, which is actually decent now.

Otherwise, I've left the uploaded version here as the original submission, of course.

I missed the first 44ish hours of The Jam and so I've literally thrown all this together after working 20 hours straight with no sleep (: As a result, there are a few things I didn't finish, or are unpolished. - No tutorial (BIG PROBLEM ) - Car controller sucks ( VERY BIG PROBLEM ) - No player model - Engine sound sucks - Camera angle can be very annoying, i regret making it that - Packages can get stuck - Map is basic - Zombie balancing issues - Code is messy

Other notes

All assets are original and were made in my dev time, with the exception of the car controller, which I used a Tutorial for

Pretty good, the controls feel quite janky to use but the core is there. Experienced a few physics-y glitches aswell but in general a good basis for a game. Good work!

i think with the time you lost, this game would've been so much better bc it's a really cool concept but lacking some polish. still fun to run over zombies though :)

The game is alright, the accuracy of the box-shot is honestly incredible, i think it's a good entry for 20 hours of work. Good job!

I didn't really understand what to do. It clearly has promise with a tutorial or some introduction but in it's currnet state i just picked up 5 packages and then drove around and got stuck in a crowd of zombies and died. I think with some more polish i think it could be a really fun game though!

Alright. This is fun. However, I have one problem, and it's the truck. To me it doesn't feel good to control. If it was more fun to drive, I would 100% deliver all of these packages. I started going by foot only, but the map is too big for that, so the truck is needed, just needs some more responsive controls. Also the zombies are extremely strong being able to push me around while driving.

That's a lot of criticism, but here's the thing. I absolutely love how the packages are not only meant for delivery. Roadkill on zombies is fun, package-kill is gold.

Update; I got a kill by extracting a package from the van. I honestly love it.

I found myself in a completely absurd situation! I was blocked by an enemy on the healing area without being able to move and I was hurt and healed indefinitely. This is the funniest bug I've ever encountered.![ezgif-5-559a6cead3.gif](///raw/f93/f4/z/58da5.gif)

Really great idea. Absolutely loved the juice with the splatter when killing enemies.
The truck was a little bit hard to control, and couldn't quite figure out if i was changing gears, or just holding to accelerate. Loved it though!

I'm impressed by the amount of stuff you managed to add! The gameplay loop is actually really cool. But I agree that the controls could use some work. I also had some trouble with getting into the van because of a bad camera angle. Otherwise, I think it's a good game!

Wow! For 20 hours, this works pretty well. My only issue was it was hard to get into the truck and I had to figure out the controls myself. With a tutorial and some more time fixing some bugs this would be really fun! Also with some music :)

For a very short development time - it's not bad, but needs more polish. Good job.
