Plains In The Sky by TevasLiutauras

[raw]
made by TevasLiutauras for Ludum Dare 49 (COMPO)

Our precious sky plains have been invaded by the malicious snakes. You will have to use your trusty cannon to get rid of those pests!

A/D to rotate the cannon.

SPACE to shoot, or retrieve a mistimed shot.

Q/E/Mouse to rotate the camera.

R to restart the current level. ldss1.png ldss2.png

Post-jam fix (10/6/2021): Fixed a sheep behavior bug and the possibility to skip levels by spamming the play button. The jam version is still available as a download in the itch.io page and is playable here: https://liutauras.me/LD49-jamversion/

A really unique concept and a nice take on the theme. The art style is also great. That said, I felt it didn't hold my attention very long. Clearing the first few snakes on a level felt like a clever use of the mechanics but the last couple generally felt like a chore. It also felt like I was waiting for a badly aimed ball to stop rolling a lot, maybe if it moved faster?

hearing all the positive comments, I would really want to play this game, however the itch.io page doesnt seem to want to load for me unfortunately. Its probably an issue on my end, Ill try to troubleshoot it

Aww, this is adorable. Had a great time with it, well done!

I think that the trail-and-error nature of aiming was maybe a bit tedious. Calculating at least the start of the trajectory would have helped a lot, particularly with the projection. The sounds and art were great!

awww I liked this game! The only thing I didn't like is that my screen is too small for the game to fit entirely, which is a bit unfortunate, but I love these silly kinds of puzzle games and it was very fun to play :D

One of my favorite entries. The graphics look fantastic - I really love this type of art style! The level design was very smart and thought-out. And this is very original take on the theme - haven’t seen this take yet. Amazing entry!

The art and the sound fit really well!
I think it would be awesome if you explore a Little Prince story somehow. I don´t exactly know why, but I got Little Prince feelings playing it

Really solid game, and a lot of snakes, but not Solid Snake
I'm sorry for that dumb pun, inspired by your level names
Cool game!

This is one of my favorite games so far. I like the aesthetic, the mellow vibe, the funny level titles, and there is very solid gameplay. This is great, especially for only 48 hours.

You could probably turn this into a real game. Brilliant!

Amazing games! I loved the graphics and SFX. It had a pretty large amount of content too - I did not expect there to be a second chapter! I had a bug where a sheep didn't fully rotate around - only ~160 degrees instead of 180 - which caused her to fall off when hit next, and the shadows felt a bit too anti-aliased for the art-style, but other than that, incredible entry!

Really fun puzzle game. There's a bit too much trial and error involved in the aiming process, but it doesn't change the fact I did sit there and try to solve puzzle after puzzle. The aesthetic side is great - the game looks beautiful and the light music in the background sets up the mood without disrupting your focus. The concept of "snakes on plains" is funny, as are the level names, but the humour isn't overused.

I found one small bug: on the title screen you can left-click the play button really fast to skip a large amount of levels.

It didn't stop me from enjoying the game, though, so it's not a big deal.

Overall, it's a really well done compo entry. Good job!

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I really did not expect such overwhelmingly positive support.

I updated the itch.io build to include some small fixes that were mentioned above, hopefully that is not against the compo rules.

If you want to try the version of the game submitted to the jam, I included a link for that in "Downloads and Links" section too.

Simple idea but very well executed. It looks (and sounds) very polished, with clean transitions, and lots of small details like the rotating wheels and bouncy snakes.

Brilliant idea. By stage 2 I immediately realized how much potential the concept had, and you just kept delivering on it!

One thing I really like about this game is that there are several ways to beat stages due to it being physics based. On top of that, doing tricky shots makes you feel so cool, like lining up a complex pool ball shot. I hope someone out there makes a video of something like that.

Unfortunately I think I got stuck due to a bug in the post-jam version. Hitting the sheep or the snake at the bottom seems to do nothing:

Regardless, I thought this game was super fun and tested a skill that I don't often practice. Some kind of physics chain-reaction skill where I have to figure out how the ramps are going to shift based on what weight I'm removing. Very enjoyable experience and great level design :)

@peachtreeoath Yeah it turns out the post-jam "fix" introduced a way more severe issue :D, it has been fixed now, so you can check out the game again if you want to, 2-4 was the last level though :/

Such a lovely game!

Really cool idea and very good execution. It's so polished from all sides: graphics, level-design, soundtrack!

I didn't manage to finish it but I'll give it another try later.
I played it and recorded it during my stream. Unfortunately I was using new software and didn’t check if everything was ok so it recorded like 2/3 of my screen  I saved recordings of games where you could still understand what’s going on. And your's is on the list. I hope it will still be helpful

@tevasliutauras ah ok thanks! It honestly took me a while to realize there was even a bug because the game was so polished that I assumed it was me lol

This is a really good physics puzzler. I was hoping for more levels and was a little surprised when it ended. If you came up with more chapters and put it on Steam or something I’d pay for it.
