Dungeon Internship by LDJam user 384578

Description

In Dungeon Internship you are the dungeon master's intern and must summon the monsters that best suit the adventurers who enter your dungeon. Since your boss doesn't really trust you, she always tells you what the monster you're summoning looks like. Unfortunately, the summoning machine is made of magic language and you didn't learn it at the academy. Fortunately, you can use your boss's old grimoire, even if it's not very easy to understand...

Controls

Click on the magic runes to modify the monster and summon it.

Game modes

The game offers 2 modes: - Practice: Perfect for learning how the machine works (seriously, we recommend you start here). - Scoring: Summon as many monsters as you can in 3 minutes. The more your monster matches the objective, the more points you score. But beware: if your monster differs too much from the objective, it's immediately lost. You are also limited in the number of runes you can use to summon a monster.

it's a good game, I really like the style and drawing, but I didn't understand how to create other body parts for certain monsters. But it is nice!

It is a quite interesting mechanic! It took me some time to figure out what each page means in the book, but I got it in the end.

This game is funny and little complicated. The graphins are good. Continue like that.

Very nice game even if I struggled on the runes but the graphics are really cool and the concept is awesome. Nice !

The graphics are quite impressive, showcasing ambition in depicting various body parts and integrating them seamlessly. However, including some tutorials to explain the rules would greatly enhance the experience. I found myself spending a significant amount of time trying to figure things out on my own.

Overall, great job!!!

Thanks all for your feedbacks !

@ikuta we've tried to create a mix betwen a puzzle and a scoring game it's why there is no more tutorials (the book is the tutorial ). But in a more complete version, we can do a progression, activating game mechanics one by one

Cool concept. Think it should have some more instructions, i get that its supposed to be a puzzle, but that for me was not really clear for a while.
Cool art! Good job!

I agree the style is great but clearly I'm not a master of runes. :(

Amazing artstyle and the game feels very coherent. Any plans to work on it after release? Like everyone else, I found it quite challenging. With some better tutorials for smooth brains like myself and perhaps slower introduction of all different combinations, I think this could be a seriously fun game. Well done!

@leiv-erik @tykki19 thanks for the feedbacks, I think I will do a document resuming the controls to check if you are blocked

@dzejpi not planned, but we have lot of good feedbacks here and from our friends so why not… if we do it, I think a « story mode » with step by step learning will be an essential

I had a fun time experimenting with the combos and eventually I got my head around it. Great job!

473 points!

I like the book and runes that seem completely cryptic at start, then have more and more logic.
The only illogical and confusing thing (but maybe it was on purpose) is that the last rune, the one to select between left/right is reversed. For the arms, it's left/right, for the legs, it's right/left.
I was alwasy wondering if I should use this rune while I was creating my monsters.

I was also a bit confused by the "book UI". I started clicking on the bookmarks but it has no effect. Only after, I noticed the arrows to browse the pages.

The creature designs are great, but the arms and legs are a little too small and many of them look alike. It was often quite hard to get their creature type. The transparency of the currently summoned creature doesn't help.

It was a nice and funny moment. I felt like creating my character for a game, then trashing it to create another one, etc.

@talopic Thanks for the feedback

@recher It was the objective to create a cryptic experience. Thanks for the feedbacks, it confirms the points we had doubts about, and we'll know what to work on if we want to work on the game again

Interesting prototype. But, i think, the game needs another mechanic. The arena or podium, where you compete for beautiful summoning creatures.
Good job!

@mado-mado-bones I add it to the long list of possible improvements for the day we have the motivation to rework the game, thanks

@avi @evgenii-victorovich @athii thanks for the feedbacks (and read the grimoire )

@roman-dubrovin the concept of the game is to be challenging, it’s first a puzzle game, but it need a little bit more balancing to not be frustrating

Summoning creatures to order. Cool.
Very similar to poiton craft.
By the way, we also wanted to make a similar game.

cool concept, I really liked the imagination behind the gameplay and I enjoy the mystery behind all of the different characters you can summon. unfortunately, it was somewhat difficult to "learn" without clicking through a lot. but oh well, it was cool!

Loved the concept and got the gist of how to part of the monsters. The issue I kept running into was that it was hard to figure out how to get the correct monster fully.

@player04 it's why in practice mode you can use an infinite number of runes, to let you test and understand. Thanks for the feedback

I've already seen some games with such mechanics when you read a book with instructions and trying to summon a monster. I really like these mechanics and I think the concept is great. It very well suits the theme. I didn't understand at first how to pick various parts of the body, but it wasn't too long. Nice job!

I'd really love to have hotkeys for the runes, this way I'd be able to go through the combinations faster. Also I don't know if 90 is the max score for 1 monster, as I only got that max (does it depend only on matches or on the number of used runes too?).

The game is great and unique, I like this spin on the theme, I had fun with it! Nice job!

A nice interpretation of the theme and unique game mechanics. The graphics and music are well-chosen for the theme, and create a good mood.

The game is super confusing at the start and takes a bit to figure out what will be the effect of runes applied after the first step. But I guess that was the point - to play around and figure things out  I wish the practice mode didn't throw you out to the main menu after you finish a summon. There should be just a button to go back when you want to.

Otherwise, nice entry!

@dmitry-mozgin @williamsoares thanks for the feedbacks

@risminator if your monster is 100% correct you get 90 points. You can get 10 points depending of the number of runes used. But the formula is sick (I was too tired when I dit it) and it's really difficult to get more than 3-4 points (and you very often get 3, which doesn't give an advantage to someone who saves runes, which was the goal). In an improved version, we should give more weight to it. Thanks for your comment

@fabula-rasa Thanks ! It was the idea to have a mix between a puzzle and a scoring game. The practice mode was added late because we realized that the game was too hard but it needs some improvements, good idea !

Interesting game. Pretty hard to get the hang of at the beginning. I feel like practice mode was a good idea, but maybe not the tutorial that it ought to be.

Overall it's a cool submission! Great job!

I really like the idea of using the theme to create this kind of puzzle game. The mechanics are interesting, but it took me a bit of time to understand how it works. Thanks for the practice mode 😅. It was fun to play, well done!

It took some time to get used to it, and it started to get more fun once I memorized most combinations. Nice! But I looked away for a second after ran out of time, and I missed out on seeing my score ;_;
