Jury Summons - When Duty Calls by LDJam user 388431

[raw]
made by LDJam user 388431 for Ludum Dare 55 (COMPO)

(Get it? Like, jury SUMMONS? Summoning? Whatever.)

You are a lawyer, defending your client. It's your job to eliminate jurors that might not align with your client's opinions.

THE GAME:

Read your client's fact sheet to learn their information, opinions, etc. Memorize it, as you're only going to see it once.

Read the newspaper to learn your client's crime. Try to make sure the jurors align with you on this point; it will be weighed higher than others.

You will have two rounds of juror questioning. Each round, you may eliminate two jurors who disagree with your client.

You can ask each juror up to three questions. A question can only be repeated once per round, so save the most important for last.

Make sure your questions align with what was on the data sheet, otherwise the juror's answers won't be of any use to your decision making.

After two rounds of questioning have passed, the trial will take place. A score will be calculated from the jurors' opinions of your client.

If the jury mostly agrees with your client's opinions, they'll declare him innocent! Otherwise, you'll lose. Shame on you.

CONTROLS:

Mostly everything is controlled with the mouse. Arrow keys to flip through the rules pages. Enter/return to continue when prompted. Clipboard.png Dialogue.png FinalJury.png Jury.png Newspaper.png Quibby.png

This is so funny lol. Love the voices but most of all I love the answers/hints it's just flawless. I'd have spent a weekend just thinking those up. I'd change nothing except maybe put an animation or something on the questions button since at first I couldn't understand where to click!

Charming visuals and sound. The gameplay felt a bit tedious, since it's just there as an excuse to show off the art perhaps a more streamlined UI would have worked better? Have three questions per juror to select from, automatically move onto the next when you're done, to cut down on the clicking around through menus.

The core memorization loop feels very well tuned. That feeling of *why didn't I remember that?* is awesome!

*Huge kudos* for the music, too. It's a huge accomplishment to make music this good and also *make the rest of the game*, so congraulations on making the deadline!

The music was soo cool! I loved the sounds. But I prefer no talking when I am reading. So the first song was a little too loud. Nice Art!

Really solid submission! Very unique idea and seemed well polished.
was nervous near the end to see if I picked right since there was one I was on the fence about but everything worked out :)

Really fun take on the theme! The music is hilarious and really fit the mood of the game.
All the character art is really cute too! Like some others have mentioned, moving through all of the menus is a bit fiddly, and it would have been nice to be able to check my client's info again after starting the questioning.
Overall really nice!

It's strange, it's fun, the music makes me smile and the jurors are weird in a good way :) The art is interesting and silly at the same time :)

I liked the surreal vibe of the music and visuals, so many weird and wonderful jurors.

The vibe continued with the possible question categories and answers, very imaginative!

Lovely and hilarious!

My critique is, it's hard to focus on the game, especially at the part we read the game rules. Not being able to play the game fullscreen makes it harder. At some point I started to ask the jurors random questions just to see the game content, rather than trying to win the game.

5/5 for Innovation, Mood and Humour.

This is such a good take on the theme!

The characters were all unique, strange and hilarious :D
I loved all the references and puns too!
The fact that the judge made sure we did not ask too much of one question made things harder, but that's good.

Great job!

That was a really enjoyable time! The goofy music and wacky art worked really well together to make a really funny and good-feeling game. I for sure forgot some of the facts on the client which lead to some difficulty in narrowing down clients, but in a good way!

For sure one of the most unique interpretations of the theme I've seen which is awesome!

I really like the art and music in your game! I also feel like it's a very creative spin on the theme. That said, I felt the core mechanic was a bit difficult to follow. I also felt it was pretty repetitive.

I also love the jurors' character design, so cute and funny.
Great work in every category/aspect.

Hi! Great music and sounds, and good writing. I like the idea. Game is quite challenging, too. Maybe the menus/UI could use some work, transitions/animations, some polish. But nevermind, very cool, had fun! Bye!

absolutely adoring the mood of this game. you did a great job with the soundtrack and character designs, and the mechanics of interviewing to weed out bad jurors is clever and hilarious.

The visuals and audio are fun and funny; I like the "handmade-touch" going on (I just wanted to say charming but someone else already said that, so I said something different). My short-term memory (for things that I feel are somewhat arbitrary) is trash, so I did terribly with this game. First go around, I accidentally got rid of the jurors on the defendant's side, but I figured out the game by then. Very interesting concept, and I like the silly options for every question and factoid. Good work!
