Great game.

I also made a a rythm game, but a much simpler one.

I like how lives are represented as villagers. A bit dark but also funny, with all the death animations.

This game soooo much fun!! The music is wonderfully rhythmic, the rain dance is quirky, the death is unfortunate but very funny to watch.

I loved the game! But the difficulty between level 1 and level 2 (and I don't want to talk about level 3 :') ) is to much!

Haha this is so innovative I like it a lot! a minute of silence for those who perished in the process lol, the moment I heard the music of the last level I was like "hell no" :laughing:. it helps to rotate the keyboard vertically to match the layout on the screen though. and hey, I have the right to flex that I one the entire game without losing (minus some burned people but that's irrelevant XD). pretty cool game! I'm even more surprised you managed to make a rhythm based game that plays on the web without going out of sync every 2 seconds.

Hi!
Thank you so much for all your nice and interesting comments! It helps a lot!
Happy to see you had fun!
You're right, the difficulty gap is really challenging and the choice of keys was also subjective, that's what worked for us :sweat_smile: ...
though I see some of you succeded to go throught without dying. Gg to you! Right to flex provided! :thumbsup:

Looking forward to play your games!

@leo-nadeau Haha the last level is really hard but with a few attempt it definitly possible. A few of our friends where able to do it! We made the choice to make it challenging for player to play a bit longer and see the potential of different difficulty possible if we had made more levels. The progression is a bit harsh for the moment

Okay, wow this absolutely broke my brain. For some reason the QWER keys being in a vertical orientation on screen is destroying me. Thats it, that's the only note I have. anyway...

Full cleared the entertainer. Let's gooooooo!

Yes the QWER is because we are a Swiss team with qwertz keyboard :sweat_smile:. This will definitly be an improvement we can do.

I played the first level and thought, "this won't be so bad, now give me a real challenge!" Then the second level gave me a real challenge. I haven't gotten past it (I think, like others are saying, the vertical orientation threw me off) but I definitely enjoyed what I played. My personal favorite part is the win sound effect, just the right amount of cheesy despite the "collateral damage".
LDJam user 376284
15. Apr 2024 · 20:20 UTC
Well, I still haven't attempted the second level again, but I remembered you said there was an "intended feature", so I went back in after leaving my review and beat the final level with one person left. I only actually "played" for like two seconds, the rest of the time my villagers were dropping like flies. I'm sure the last one will be all right...

Love rhytm-games in general, this one though is a little tricky - your keys placed horizontal, but the prompts on screen are vertical, it fries your brain at first. Anyway, it's a fun one for sure!

My crippling runescape addiction lead me to skip multiple levels! Had to lock in and come back. Fun game, the art is super cute and I'm a sucker for rhythm games. I wish the visuals of the gameplay elements were a little spiced up, though! More interesting sprites for the notes and more effects when you hit them would have gone a long way.

16. Apr 2024 · 16:15 UTC
First game I'm playing this LD55, and such a nice one! The QWER took me a while to get used to, it might be nicer to have the notes scroll vertically (I don't look that far ahead at least) - like rain drops :P I also love the villagers + lightning mechanic, and the art style is fitting. The fonts on the opening screen and between levels are very basic and too large for me, perhaps they are not loading properly?

![Screenshot from 2024-04-16 18-19-00.png](///raw/1d8/z/63bad.png)

How did you make the notes line up so tightly with the audio? I'm assuming you just play the audio file, do you need to actively synchronize or can you just animate the notes based on time?
Pseudonclide
16. Apr 2024 · 16:44 UTC
@judjudson
Actually we tried to add some spice to the game by adding a little shake on the notes when you succeed and a shake on the screen + flash when you lose (too subtle?). There's also more clouds as you progress through the song. Though you're right that is regardless of the success level or the number of keys you hit before a miss. Thank you for your feedback, that helps a lot :)

@dining-philosopher
Did you play in full screen or windowed? We developped on full screen and it is true the title doesn't scale down.. :sweat_smile:
For the music we used the ddrywet midi asset (you can see in description).
I did spy on my composer friend during the jam and.. I clearly saw him click the notes when the villagers where supposed to dance!.. I think he bind the key to a specific midi "effect" or "sound". That's 4 different drums for level one and 4 different notes for level two (two original musics he composed for this game).
As for "the entertainer" at the end, he also added drums and that's what you actually have to match in that level.

16. Apr 2024 · 17:12 UTC
@pseudonclide Well I never lost so I wouldn't know B)

But I think having more presence on the screen in general for the core gameplay elements would be good. More custom/stylized sprites for the letters coming onto the screen and something stylized for the place where they "strike." I'd never thought of it before, but I think this is why most rhythm games of this type give the player a "highway." It gives the oncoming notes a sense of fitting in with the rest of the scene, where they feel abstract in this game. I think it only really sticks out because the personality and art of the other elements is so good - the lightning when you miss a note is hilarious, and so is the sprite for a dead summoner. And the dance moves as you play are awesome, as well as the expanding sprites over the course of the game. So please don't take this as an overall negative perception - I loved your game! I just think the UI definitely could have fit in better and been flashier!

@pseudonclide With UI elements in Unity games, you can lock them to always stay the same size by changing their Canvas Scaler component to "Scale with Screen Size," and then entering the resolution you developed the game at!

This was really fun and well made. If I were to give constructive criticism the menues and floating letters could be more polished. The art of the game is quite beautiful and well made, so the letters and menus fitting in more would be the cherry on top stylistically.

Funniest game I've played today, 5/5 humor for me being so bad lol.Genuinely a ton of fun. I really don't have that much to critique here. Very cool! The music is fun and I liked how the people represent my HP. I really did not want them to die but I kinda suck lol. Level 1 was a breeze but 2 is tough! Congrats on a very solid entry.

The only very minor detail that could be improved imo is that the inputs (and ui) felt unrelated to the theme. Would be cool if they had a wooden texture and a fitting font or something.
