Shoot The Furniture! featuring S.K. Eleton

A state of the art first person shooter that takes you to exotic locations (office building) and pits you against terrifying foes (potted plants) as you try to become the hero of legend, the first to collect all 9 mystic artifacts! (beepers)

How to play

Collect all 9 beepers hidden around the game world to win! Beware of plants that shoot you when you get in range. Pick up bullets for ammo and pill bottles for health.

Press Q to experience a dead mechanic or what could've been if we had more time... The original idea was that you would get "summoned" via the beeper, but in the end it turned out to be a simple collect-a-thon.

This game was developed with the O3DE game engine

We'll write some more stuff about our experience developing with O3DE later, after some much needed sleep.

Graphics work

I made every asset for this game within the 72 hour window (except for the particle effect). This was an excessive amount of work but I really wanted to see what I could do with O3DE. I ended up dumping a lot of assets due to minor technical issues and time constraints though. I spent an entire day creating animations for the summoning mechanic just to throw it away, along with some props that kept crashing the asset processor for some inexplicable reason. I'm pleased with how the game ended up looking, I just wish I had a bit more time to tweak the lighting and post processing effects.

As for the overall experience working with O3DE, I was surprised at how full featured it currently is from the art side. There were some minor issues that slowed down my workflows, but nothing deal breaking.

If you're thinking about giving O3DE a try, I think I can confidently say that it's in a very usable state from the art side. Just make sure to dedicate time to reading the docs, searching discord, and watching the very helpful videos on the O3DE youtube channel. Also, save frequently and expect the editor to crash every now and then.

System Requirements

Due to a variety of reasons including time constraints, the game might run poorly or not at all if you don't have a dedicated GPU with at least 2 GB of VRAM. If you run into issues running the game, it would be helpful if you could share your system specs (including GPU driver version if possible)

Linux Version

I actually developed the game entirely on my Fedora Linux workstation, but ran into an issue creating a release package for Linux, so I decided to focus on getting the Windows version out so more people can play it. I haven't given up on the Linux build though, so hopefully I'll get that out soon for my fellow Linux LD'ers

Known Issues

  • The resolution of the game is tied to the size of the game window, so if you full screen you'll be running the game at your desktop resolution which might lead to performance issues.
  • Audio might be too loud.
  • There is no win state so after you get all 9 beepers, pat yourself on the back on my behalf

That's neat. It's very cool that you managed to create that many assets and make them into the playable level. The sound level was fine for me and I also found amusing that you can shoot little pots with plants and they are just objects when big pots are enemies. Would be great to see more interactivity or fun with physics, but gamejam is gamejam, so it's understandable.

anyway, nice entry!

Shame your game didn't quite go to plan but the graphics are really impressive, especially since they were all made during the jam. The little pots being just a physics object was suprisingly hilarious.

I've played the linux version, I have some graphical glitches but I've seen enough to say that the art is very good, hehe I was a fan of Gary's mod and this game reminded me a little bit to it.

Good job!

PS: I'll check the engine that you used as I've never heart about it.

Nice Graphics !
Movements feels weird sometimes like input lag.

Impressed by how much you managed to do with the graphics, didn't read the full description until I had played the game and I was under the impression that they had to be from a library given how solid they were.

As for the gameplay itself, I found that the game definitely could've used something more. Once you defeat the potted plants, then it's just a scavenger hunt... doing that isn't all too difficult either, given the number of pickups around.

I mean, nice assets. Some time management would go a long way. Still fun enough and an interesting idea.

Find it crazy that you managed all those assets so quickly! Audio might've been a bit too loud heh. Also diagonal strafing felt veeeery slow compared to just moving forward.

Nice assets and quite a fun idea, just need more polish for it to work. It's a bit TOO hard to know which one will shoot at you even if that is what you intended for it to be.

I had very low frame rates on Linux with an AMD Radeon RX 580 Series. But efforts to provide a Linux version must be rewarded in any case ;)
From the description, screenshots and what I could play, this seems to be real fun when having decent framerate!

Its a fun game! I like the extra objective of collecting things, to make it more than just running around and shooting. The plants as enemies were a funny touch and being able to shoot all the furniture and watch the physics do their thing made the game more interesting. Great job!

Really impressive assets considering the time crunch, good job on that. Overall it was enjoyable enough to play once even given the limited gameplay as is. It would be cool to see some of the work you mentioned being unable to use get fixed up and released as well :]

Pretty funny concept, the physics was fun to see once I collected all the beepers, I tried my best to b-hop but the movement felt a bit stiff at times. Overall nice work with the graphics everything looked great, and it was a fun little experience!

Nice graphics, I love the gameplay but how is that connected with summoning? I've collected all of the beepers and nothing happened, Ive searched the whole map and the only thing that stood out was this, that I dont know if has any function at all, overall I loved the game, I miss pause or menu button or something, and I would love to see the ending of the game, good job guys keep it up!![Screenshot 2024-04-21 114920.png](///raw/e74/e5/z/649a6.png)

Very pretty! The environment and power ups look good. The gameplay is simple, but I enjoyed running around murdering office plants. The map is quite well designed, I can see the potential here, its a shame your idea got cut short. Nice job getting what you did together though, its no small feat getting something like this together!

From a gameplay POV, nothing too interesting. As far as I get it it was just a development process experiment. I give you credit for the assets though, if you really made them.

Cool little shooter you got here. Art-wise I loved the style of the game and the scenery not too sure what the gameplay has to do with the theme though. Also on another note the gameplay was pretty fun but finding all the beepers was a bit frustrating. Overall, it could use some improvement but really impressed with what you have done in such a short amount of time.
