Wilford - Deep Underground by BattleCat

[raw]
made by BattleCat for Ludum Dare 48 (COMPO)

Description

In this game you control Wilford the wombat in his quest to acquire riches and come out of it alive. Find the exit to win.

Comments

I vastly miscalculated the effort needed to create this game. As a result it's severely unfinished even for a game made in 48 hours. It is what it is, and I spin such matters as learning opportunities.

Controls

Currently keyboard only.

Arrows move Wilford CTRL swings the pickaxe (though it's currently invisible).

Enemies

Salamander - keeps getting in the way

Underground Wasp - don't let it look at you for too long, or you might regret it

Sawing the thumbnail I thought Wilford is the "Werkzeugbär" But a wombat is even better! I love the music

I think, enemies go using random.
It was easy to kill them.
I think you should make game harder =)

Would love to see more levels and a use for the items you acquire! Nice job, I think you could add on to this and make something really cool

Great game starring a Wombat.. we need more wombat heroes!!

I love the retro style graphics and the music. We both know that 48 hours isn't enough time but I love what you have done.

Unfortunately when I press the down arrow key my browser window scrolls down and then the game disappears... so yeah that makes it difficult to play. Not sure if it's something I'm doing wrong

Keep up the good work.

the sound effect and particles make the digging feel real good! The movement felt a bit off, maybe my computer is just slow.. I also really liked the music!

A nice little game! I like the particles and sound effects, but the enemies seemed like the didn't move much, and I never got hit by one.

Wow, the feedback from you guys is surprisingly good. Perhaps I demand too much of myself. Glad you guys like it

@kevin-s Yeah I'm not sure why it does that - the best way to get around it I can see is to click the fullscreen icon in the bottom right.

@alec The movement is a bit off, so I don't think it's you. It was even worse before. I tried to make it like in Startropics so you could change direction without moving but I ended up spending way too much time on just the basic movement mechanics.

@eboatwright The salamander is just in the way for now as I didn't have time to make them bite you. The wasps will shoot at you after being able to see you for a while. There was also a 3rd bull like enemy who would charge you if it could see you in a direct line but I wasn't able to get it to recover after charging into a wall, so it just kinda sat there. Decided against making it spawn for now.

For what it's worth, this didn't feel severely unfinished to me! I laughed at the opening screen artwork, so cute :smile_cat:
