I'm Definitely Not Scared of My Own Basement by macaroni.dev

Oh no, the power’s out! Better go down to the basement to fix it. It’s totally fine, it’s not like there’s anything scary or dangerous down there!
How to Play

- Any key to advance cutscenes/menus.
- Click or hold the left mouse to use the flashlight.
- The flashlight has limited battery - don't run out! Click right mouse at any time to recharge it.
- Your remaining battery life and fear level are in the top-right corner. Don't get too scared or else you'll run away!
- Brave the darkness and make it to the end :)
About
Please enjoy our second ever submission to a game jam. We're a husband-and-wife team, and our game is built in a custom SDL2+Haskell engine (also built during the jam) with hand drawn art made in Clip Studio Paint.
Installation
On Windows, just unzip the zip file and play jam.exe :)
Mac and Linux ports coming soon! If you have (64-bit) Wine installed, it should be able to play the Windows exe fine.

It was really hard and I don't know how far I got.
@boclow Thanks for playing & commenting. I hope you finish it sometime :)
@lrvstudios Thank you! There is an ending, but to get there you'll have to manage your battery life - the flashlight takes longer to reload if you let it completely die.
Later on in the game, when lots and lots of things fly at you, it felt way to chaotic to try to manage shining the flashlight and charging the battery. It wasn't clear to me at first whether I have to hold the right click to charge, or just click it.
I like that it's open-source, even tough I could't understand the code. Haskell seems to be for big boys :P
The art really reminded me of the Hugo series btw ;)
I read your blog post about the many faces of goblin girl, which I liked a lot btw. Playing the game the first time, I got a bit distracted by the big "Out of battery/Recharging" texts and giant bats and ghosts sticking to my virtual glasses, so I wasn't able to pay much attention to the status bar and avatar.
But after playing a couple of times, I got better and I enjoyed the game a lot! I love the artwork, the intro scene, and that you added background music. Sound effects when hitting a monster with the flashlight would make it perfect!
The old style of the game was really fun. I loved the artwork for the avatar and it sent me a nostalgia factor for the past.
Also... you guys BUILT THE ENGINE DURING THE JAM? IN HASKELL!?
