Unstable Chemistry by Laurari

made by Laurari for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

Welcome to 🥼⚗️ Unstable Chemistry 🧪👨‍🔬

In this game your labor is to combine all incoming chemical solutions in the proper way so they are not unstable.

Drag and combine them together but... be careful! Follow the instructions so you don't make even more unstable solutions that increase the level of instability of the lab.

Your goal is to stabilize as many flasks as possible before they are processed by our cute solution-processor-robot Queue-A 🤖. Every unstable solution that is being processed will increase the unstable bar, if this bar gets at 100% your game is over and your score will be saved. Talking about the score, each stabilized solution being processed by Queue-A will give you points depending on the flask type.

❔🔍 How many points can you get before Queue-A detects a point of no return of instability? Comment down below to compare highscores!

We hope you enjoy our game and all the others that are being developed during the Ludum! We're eager to check yours!

:warning: Disclaimer: We don't have a colorblind option sadly so please take this into consideration if you want to try the game. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Cheers!

How to play

Drag and drop the flasks to make stable solutions. Check the RGB diagram to see what you need to move and the examples in the images below.

You can drag flasks 🧪 to: * Other flasks 🧪 to combine them * The Queue-A machine 🤖 to process them before they reach the end if you don't want to wait * The recycling bin ♻️ to safely dispose of the solution (be patient, it takes some time 😜) * The fridge ❄️ to store them instead of leaving them in the belts

A very fun game. It took me a while to figure out what I was doing but that's because I always jump in to the game before reading how to play :face_palm: I love the audio and visuals, especially the Queue-A machine! Great work.

Thanks @icedjam !!! I think that reading the instructions is needed for this particular game xD

Fun game, really well designed UI and audio. Game feels good. I think the instructions are a bit overwhelming and a bit hard to understand. Other than that it is simple and fun! Good job!

Very cool! I would like it if the belt was slightly slower as my rubbish brain struggled to process things, but good! I loved the audio design and the bubbling.

Very Nice! It took me a while to work out how to play, because I didn't realize there was a second page to the instructions. I really should have paid more attention. Once I worked out how to play I got a score of 665. It's a fun game and I really like the idea of mixing colors.

One of the biggest issues I had was that I kept forgetting what I needed to mix to get the right solutions. I don't really have any ideas about how to fix that but it should somehow be easier to remember.

I also think it would be really cool to have different difficulties which could easily be just based on the belt speed. Maybe in a post-jam version?

Overall very good job!

Really difficult game ! But I each try is a new highscore :p
Maybe you can show the order of ingredient in the instruction menu, this is stressful to understand when playing !

What a cool game! It fits the theme very well... literally unstable chemistry! The pace was too fast for me, but I enjoyed it regardless, and I replayed at least 3 times until I nailed it, so it hooked me!

Thanks a lot for your feedback!!

@darthboseiju thanks!! It is super fun to read the comments because some people are asking for faster belts and others for slower ones xD thanks for playing!!

@daspikeyboss nice score!! Our top score has been 1600+ points, but it reaches a point where it is too hard to do them all (intended, of course). The difficutly increases with the points you have. About the suggestion on helping to know what to merge, we tried with the two panels in the middle, as the game is basically following the rock-papers-scisor mecanic with the colors, but we'll definitely try to make it more understandable.

@loiclegrosfrere thanks!! We have the instructions that clarify the order (there are two pages!!), but we have to add something in game for sure, thanks for playing!!

@splitpainter that's exactly what we were after, so thanks so so much for this comment!!!

I think an in-game step-by-step tutorial would have saved a lot of headaches, but this is a game jam - and the headaches are part of the charm! Great work.

hahahaha thanks @electric-bonfire!! We thought of having the instructions in the pause menu too as an alternative, but we did not have more time  So you can imagine that having a tutorial was even more impossible

Although relatively simple, the mechanics are really well thought out and the game quickly gets very hectic. Really well made and nicely polished entry. Good job!

Sorry to say I read the instructions three times, and try to play it three times, and I wasn't able to understand what I'm supposed to do, so I can't really rate anything but sound and visuals. It's kinda cute tho.
