Don't Freeze by LudumDareDevil

[raw]
made by LudumDareDevil for Ludum Dare 50 (COMPO)

You have to feed the fire in order to stop it from burning down. If it does, you will freeze! But wait! There's a limited amount of wood that you can put on the fire! Looks like your death is INEVITABLE!

I lasted about 12 minutes! one of the things I was doing to save time was pushing one of the logs while holding another
That block of TNT was quite the surprise, so much so that it made me jump! when I first found it I thought it was a book shelf, but when I saw that it wouldn't burn I was thing maybe there is something else for it.
Later after burning most of the map I saw some rocks and with not very many options left I grabbed the box and took it to the rocks.
I really like the pixel art and the shadows also the little sounds of the foot steps is a nice touch!

I love the atmosphere of the game, just earing your footsteps in the snow, the lighting of the fire and the minimalist pixelart. All that gives a really nice feeling of loneliness :D

Nice looking game. I did get stuck in a wall to the left after walking next to it, but not a big deal. Great submission!

I really love the art! Impressive for within 48 hours. Throwing the logs into the fire was a little difficult but it was fine overall. Great job!

The game has a really nice vibe to it. The gameplay was very relaxing. I loved the graphics, the sound effects and the particles. Only small bug I found was that in the death screen you could still hear your footsteps before pressing the button to restart.

The game has a very nice atmosphere and graphics, and the theme was quite cozy. Would have preferred keyboard keys for picking up and dropping, as it was a bit awkward on a macbook, but otherwise you've done a great job!

Wasn't Keep It Alive the theme of LD46? Oh well, that's basically the same as Delay the Inevitable, anyway.

This is a really pretty game. Great graphics and atmosphere. Unfortunately, running into the darkness to get wood over and over again wears thin pretty quickly. I found the TNT but I couldn't figure out how to make it explode. Oh well.

Stunning game! I don't think I got the tnt to explode despite trying to drop it into the fire. I also first thought it was a chest or something.
You could definitely build this to a full game.

I was having some issues getting the logs into the fire. I really like the shadows and character art. Really well done.

definitely need to have a proper detection area on the fire. i threw some pieces and they landed on the fire and nothing they just sat there. then i backed up and threw and nothing, but there is a sweet spot where you have to throw the logs and thats not good, it should be set up as a area detect. found a few bugs with the box of tnt and the boulders. when the tnt blew up it bugged my picking up of pieces. the game definitely needed a timer to show how long you lasted, so you can compare runs.

Don't Starve vibes, loved it, but as other mentioned, gets pretty repetitive pretty quickly :/, would have love some level mechanism or other twists!
But overall, this is a very good submission, we should all remember we had 48h to make a game :)

Good game. The art is great and sound effects made it very peaceful shuffling around in the snow.

A fellow "survive the freezing cold" developer. Yay! I really like the mechanic.

Cool game! The graphics are absolutely fantastic. The fire effect and the shadows are just perfect. Sound design was on point. Would have loved to see a little bit more to do, but overall great job :)

Great mood to the game, really has a lonely feel to it, the art is really cute, and I liked the sound effects(Wish there was some ambient noise though). Awesome entry!

Nice vibe that fits the gameplay. The sound effects and lighting help create an isolated, desperate feel.

Pretty good, pretty good. The hit detection was a bit weird when picking things up or throwing them into the fire, but the sound design was pretty good! I was the TNT did something though :/

The snowflakes and the shadow of the fire are really cool elements and strengthen the visuals. Also the sound of steps in snow further contribute to the great mood of the game.

Concerning gameplay I feel like the button for collecting and throwing should be the same, I feel like it currently just adds confusion. Also it seems like the fire will actually never burns down, but maybe that is a bug? But I still liked the gameplay and also that you can push elements with your avatar.

@pixeltaku if you touch the tnt to the rocks blocking another section of the map (in the upper part of the map) it will explode and open up that section

What a simple and cool idea at the same time. I was very surprized when I found a box)

Really lovely graphics, I love the light off the campfire, the snow, the player character. The mitten cursor is adorable. I was able to survive pretty long, and I found a non-firewood item in the bottom right area, though I couldn't figure out what to do with it. From reading the other comments I'm guessing it was the TNT, so I must be blind to not have recognized it. Love the survivalist take on the theme, I've played a couple other extreme cold games for the jam and it's a great vibe, really nailed it here. Some kind of extrinsic motivator, like a timer or a score counter, might help with adding purpose to the survival here. Overall, really well done.

Great mood and graphics! Would have been a bit more intuitive to use the same button for picking up and throwing (got a bit confused at the start). Would also be cool if you added some kind of story element to it (dark example: picking up and burning old furniture, toys and clothes that remind you of your dead family?) Good job!

Love the atmosphere that this game gives. Great lighting with the snowy footsteps feels nice. One thing is that the controls are a bit counterintuitive. You pick item with cursor, but the character must be near the item. You throw item with cursor, but the throw direction depends on character movement. I think it would be best to have the pickup using a button to just pick item in certain range of the player.

Great pixel art work, I really liked the style. I think it would be a good addition to have, in addition to a cold bar, one to know the state of the fire, an option to relight the fire could also be added, and without a doubt it lacks ambient music to improve the sensations and the atmosphere . I think you can keep working on it and polishing it, good job!! xD

Liked the art and the simple controls (though I had a devil of a time throwing sometimes, for some reason).

ENjoyed it!

Dave holds their book at arm's length as the cold silently tinkles all around, slowly but surely creeping in and freezing them, preserving a perfect example of a bookworm dying for the love of their live

(For the unbelievers that say it's just a log: yes, it's a *log _book_*)

Very nice game! I like the art and the overall atmosphere, the sound effects were very fitting. Personally for me, the throwing became a little awkward, and at some point, I wasn't able to throw the log until like 5 seconds later? could have just been a me thing though. Overall, great job!

Well done, feels like a complete, polished game. Fun for a while, but gets repetitive quickly. (Well, until one finds what to do with the TNT box, which was unexpected.) Super pretty visuals!

This game has amazing cozy atmosphere to it and I felt for the character each time I had to go far from the file. The presentation is just fantastic and, although, it's quite simple, it was one of the most atmospheric games I played this LD.

The art and sound gave this game a really awesome atmosphere. I ran into a bug where I couldn't throw the log I was carrying which unfortunately ended my game early, but I had fun up until that point :)
