Aloft by ColeSlaughter

All things eventually come to an end. Even the joy felt from a child carrying a balloon is not safe from the inevitability of the world. Slowly drifting away into the unkown, we find ourselves Aloft, far out of reach.

I liked your game!
Wow, here I was expecting another weird and wacky game to make people laugh out loud and instead I got greeted by this masterpiece.... you guys definitely found a good background music to use in the game, the visual style plus the music plus the theme of the game in general really gives this game a very strong mood!
I never thought I'd struggle this much just to move a game object around, this might be the hardest Ludum Dare game I've ever played. That took me quite a while to get a hang of the controls!
It blows my mind. Great job as always!
Got really challenging after a while too! The spiiikes!WODK
Controls are tricky, but they are fun to learn. Nice job!
The art style reminds me Limbo.
At some point I got the hang of it but the control are still very unusual. The hardest part is the buoyancy and angular velocity of the balloon.
The collider seemed like it was just barely in the player's favor, which is a good choice, made it feel good during close calls.
One bug, which I'm hesitant to reveal lol. During challenge mode, I was going to give up so I held Escape to quit out, then changed my mind and clicked play again. It put me on the final level without my timer resetting. I tried it again multiple times and it seems 100% reproducible. You may want to remove my challenge mode score from the leaderboards.
I have to say that I think you nailed the theme, and I loved the way that your mechanism to reach the objective was so entwined with your downfall. That made each choice feel so much more impactful. But damn the controls were brutal for me. I'm going to have to practice a lot!
Artistically the game is stunningly beautiful! While I do like your guys' wacky humour, I love Waywards aesthetics and mood - and I think you nailed the mood again!
I agree with the other comments, really sweet intro, well done! Music well chosen as well and drive the emotions home.
Great work!
I think the last 2 levels in particular show off a really unique consequence of the mechanics. There's actually an unusual push/pull effect created from the shrinking balloon. On one hand you are becoming a smaller target, allowing you to navigate harrowing areas a lot easier. On the other hand, you're running out of time so you need to mosey on. It's funny and interesting to be trading one source of tension for another. I did like your final stage design because it was so different from the others and you were using a slightly different skillset.
The control scheme wasn't just unique (including when your balloon spins out of control), but the idea of air getting sapped from the holes is *definitely* something I hadn't seen before. I imagine there could be some crazy player who is super air efficient and knows how to maneuver the balloon 1 airstream at a time.
Lastly, great job on always pushing your LD projects in different directions. I'm curious how much of a priority it is for you guys to do different things. For a while I thought your team had the humor category on lock and might stick to that.
only feedbacks I have and Im grasping for straws here:
-I wish I didnt have to press all 4 buttons to restart
-The balloon air coming out when you pop is attached to the balloon in an unrealistic way
-Hitting the very bottom of balloon shouldnt pop you, I think it would be cool if it was on a hinge joint too so it would kinda flap around and also give you leeway if it touches something
-and the nitpickiest of them all: when you reset I know it just resets the whole level, but it would feel more seamless if you just reset the balloon only because the particles at the exit also get reset

The controls are quite unique and difficult to master in a good way!
Another excellent entry!
A couple of minor issues:
- Server seems to be down. I couldn't see anything on the leaderboard.
- The font is a bit too hard to read. I like the aesthetics of the font, but it's a bit too much.
- I wish there was a button to restart the current level. At the difficult levels I know very early if I've failed the level, and it's annoying to sit and wait until I die.
PS: Would really love to see that ending cutscene, could you maybe make it available somewhere?
