Before the impact: Meteor Fantasy
"Before the impact: Meteor Fantasy" is a 2D auto-action RPG.
The game has been made during the LD50 in 72 hours.
Story (I can't wait for the movie adaptation!)
In the past, Drax Voder, evil incarnate, was defeated by a great hero. The last minions of Drax Voder went into hidding, awaiting for their revenge. Years later, a meteor is a about to fall on the planet. As a new hero rise to become powerful enough to destroy the celestial rock, Drax Voder's minions get out of the shadows, and start to cast a spell to speed up the meteor and make it crash on the planet before the hero gain too much power.
Now, the hero must stop the Cult of Drax before it's too late, and delay the inevitable!
Gameplay
In "Before the impact: Meteor Fantasy", you play as a hero travelling the world to become strong enough to stop an incoming meteor.
Monsters will try to stop them, and 3 groups of fanatics are channeling a spell to speed up the coming of the meteor.
At the start of the game, you need to get rid of some fanatic on an island to slow down the meteor. For that you will start with a weapon. Weapons attacks on their own, you just have to move your character around to search for your target. You can know when a weapon is about to attack with the help of the ATA "Active Time Attack" on the lower left of the screen.
Once it's done, you will be granted and boat, and you'll be able to travel freely around the map, to find the other fanatics who are trying to speed up the meteor.
You can also find 4 mysterious altar, hidding incredible magical powers.
You will get attacked by swarming monsters, coming one after another. Every enemy drop an orb of experience. Gather them to gain levels.
Each time you level up, you will have to choose between 3 random upgrades. You can get a new weapon, a weapon upgrade or accessories.
You can only have 3 weapons, 3 accessories and 3 magic powers.

Kudos
I still haven't found the fourth magic power (got wind, ice and life steal). The tornados are broken, I think, because if you have enough of those almost no enemy will appear on the screen and XP just flies to you from everywhere:

PS: meteors are cool, my game has one, too. But yours is so much more fun
I encountered a crash on my third game with the fist maxed out and the lifeSteal power (memory out of bound).
It took me some time to understand I could walk in water at first so my first game was a bit slower. I think displaying the health of the meteorite at the end could be good too to understand how much you need to improve to beat it.
Great work, thank you for the game.
But on my third try, I was much more prepared, and was able to complete the game! Getting more and more powerful and defeating gigantic waves of enemies is really fun. The exploration aspect is also pretty cool, I was able to discover 3 magic powers! It could use a bit more landmarks, but the amount of sprites in the game is already impressive, as well as the variety of weapons and powers. You did a really amazing job!
I don't have really much things to critique. One thing that comes to mind is that it wasn't really clear that the game can be finished and I almost gave up, but then finally made it to the good ending in the final run. Oh and it also took me a while to realise that I'm the boat and don't need to look for it.
Apart from that a really solid experience from start to end, well done!
Thanks for coming to my stream! Here's a recording in case you'd like to refer to it: https://youtu.be/xAmitsB_F9k
Glad you liked it ! About the boat, we were actually supposed to get it when we kill the first cultist camp, but we didn't had time to implement that ! haha So we've made it accessible right from the beginning !. But yea no notice so it might be a bit confusing.
(noting quick reference timestamp : 2:28:05  )
An impressive game in terms of content with a rather big map, quite a lot of upgrades/weapons, enemies, the altars, spots with greater enemies, etc... The graphics are nice with a consistent art style and a lot of assets produced there, the music and sfx all work well and the music change upon the meteor coming closer adds a lot of tension near the end. The end cinematic was nice too. The game feel is good too.
It's really a great game overall, so most of the 'bad' things I'll point out will be nitpicking and things that are more if you want to continue the game after the jam.
First thing was that it might not have been clear enough in game that you are limited to 3 weapons & accessories and that info could have maybe been conveyed on the level up screen. Second is that I felt it lacked some kind of really dangerous enemies with a different behaviour, some kind of miniboss. I think the fanatics could have been used as that, as they are supposed to be the main enemy from the story, rather than being weak enemies that get one shotted.
My third attempt was much more enjoyable, since I could defeat all cultits quite early and could spend a lot more time leveling up / exploring :) Boy does it feel great once weapons are maxed out, nice feedbacks !
Also like others, it took me some time to understand I could go into water
I think tornado + fist is a bit strong, nothing could get anywhere close to me.

Final score

Good job on this, it was incredibly fun.
