Cauldron by Mortiss

[raw]
made by Mortiss for Ludum Dare 50 (EXTRA)

Potion maker meets Reigns!

A witch survival game. Brew potions for people, challenge yourself with moral dilemmas or just have fun and hope for the next day to come.

The game was initially made for the local Ludum Dare as a Jam entry, but due to tons of text we weren't able to translate it in time, so now we can submit it as Extra (Hurray for the new Extra category!)

Wow, this is really good! Nice to hear the extra category saved you 😎 Hope you're able to get enough ratings before tomorrow. Looks super nice and I love all the little details like the witch sleeping under the hat and doing an animation when clicked. Sounds great as well. Took me three playthroughs to really get it, that you're supposed to keep flipflopping your stats by making the occasional bad potion, thereby delaying your inevitable demise 😅 Very nice! Enjoyed seeing the story progressing with all the wacky things that would happen. Super well done!!

This is really polished in pretty much any way I can think of, apart from the buttons in the recipe book being kinda hard to trigger. I really enjoy the art and animations, the character design is charming, the prompts are funny and responsive to your gameplay, the music fits the mood perfectly, and the sounds support things nicely. Glad you could submit as an extra!

Loved the art, animations, and writing, and my favorite part of the game was the little story bits that would come up every so often. I got all the soldiers killed on the bandit hunt by accident, oops. Great job!

Love the art style. It has a blend of humor that keeps you wanting to progress. I was stuck in front of a inquisitor. I assume there is test that the user has to balance because of his fame. I was too good and got caught then burn to death. Overall a good game.

Loved all about the art, music and the dialogues.
The mechanic of making potions is interesting and really cool, I played first on the web and the screen was a bit off, I couldn't see the corners even in fullscreen, but I think it's just a problem with the browser, downloadable build was all fine.
Very good job, game is nice!

And there's a little mispell ("meself") on one of the dialogues, it's on the farmer with a fork

@thekrauser "meself" was done on purpose, it was supposed to be a vernacular)
Thanks for playing and feedback!

@4ahizon Yep, the inquisitor comes with high fame to round you up for any working potion you give him!

Absolutely fantastic! Only nitpick I have is for the ingredient name to also show up when hovered in the recipe book.

I absolutely adore this game. The graphics are incredibly done, and fit so well with the music and just general mood of the game. Only change I'd personally make is to have tooltips in the recipe book when you hover over the ingredients to see their names, as it took me a little bit to make the connection for some of them

No tooltips in the book and some ingredients looking similar — that was intentional to introduce at least some sort of a challenge) Now I think it contradicts the general flow of the game. Thank you for your feedback.

What a beautiful looking and sounding game. I loved playing this (managed to max out my fame and ended up dead at the hands of the church ). The humour was great, and the gameplay was easy to understand, but I still ended up getting some recipes wrong

Only gripe was having to open the spellbook, then move to the close icon to close it again (especially when I was just reopening it to check the recipe). Might be better to just be able to click on the spellbook icon again to close it.

A truly fantastic entry, well done!

@digital-bacon I believe you can close the book by clicking anywhere outside its picture, including the book opening button (I personally coded that, but maybe something went wrong), and also you can use keys (space/A/D) to work with the book.

@nah Yes, we totally need to make the hitboxes for book buttons bigger, thanks for mentioning.
