Unnamed Stealth Macguffin Theft by LDJam user 56637

[raw]
made by LDJam user 56637 for Ludum Dare 51 (EXTRA)

Have you got what it takes to be a grapplin' Macguffin thief? Find out in " Unnamed Stealth Macguffin Theft " ! !

Featuring grappling hooks! And menacing robot guards! Museum level that's kinda okay! No sound or music at all, only sliders for their volume! Godot 4 beta weirdness! And probably good ideas not executed in a great way, but it's alright, we think!

Get to the Macguffin, activate heist mode and steal it back to the beginning of the level, but be careful! Guards in an area around you will get alerted to your location every 10 seconds after you've activated heist mode.

Postshortem (longer, actual postmortem TBA)

We knew pretty much from the start of development that this will be an Extra submission, because our timezones are almost polar opposites. We discovered we are good at planning, but not great at sticking to the plan! There were many features that were made way too late in, which you may notice especially in the guards, and many more ended up being scrapped entirely. As I write this, we only textured the museum and tutorial levels today. There were meant to be at least 3 more maps after the museum, but we couldn't get even so much as concepts for them into the game due to a nasty engine bug which we could do nothing about, where the game would crash if an NPC could not pathfind to a target location. This bug was fixed in the next beta of Godot, but at that point we had less than a week left and decided to focus on other parts of the game. Despite the many shortcomings of the game and the fact we couldn't complete it, I personally had a lot of fun, and learned a bunch! (can't speak for Ero)

If we were to continue the project, we think we'd have to remake it entirely from scratch to bring more of our original vision into it. There's definitely some good ideas in "Unnamed Stealth Macguffin Theft", but the execution, at least I feel, suffered from the fact we couldn't really work without being in call at the same time and choosing to use a less stable, beta version of Godot (we knew what we were going into when we started it).

Overall, I hope that you can at least appreciate the ideas we've tried to convey with the game! Thanks for checking it out! (And sorry for no web or Mac build, we can't build for either at the moment.)
