We were severely overdue

at the end of 72 hours we had only finished a ragged demo that was not even playable, much to the frustration of our group, but we decided to finish everything we were scheduled to. So now we have this.

Since we can't move to the EX group because we've already exceeded the time limit, we'll write this timeout statement here and hope you enjoy our game :D

So the concept is fantastic and the art is great. Although it does fit with the team I felt 10 seconds just wasn't enough to build a decent machine. But overall a very well made game for a jam game

Fantastic concept that's made frustrating by the timer. I can't watch the hijinx while also trying to build a thing out of random parts. :(

Really fun game, I'm a big fan of this! Building totally useless machines and seeing them collapse wihin minutes is always a very funny highlight. And there's lots of options in this game, I like how there are more and more "assets" you can build your machine out of. As been said before me though, ten seconds is really not a lot to build stuff, but maybe it's a skill issue from my side!

Also great job with creating the graphics, it's really consistent and polished. Congats on the game!

Your game is really cool ! It could be a really fun multiplayer game ! I can already imagine how fun it could be on multiplayer !

What I liked:
- The art is crazy good
- The sound design
- The gameplay

Improvements:
- I know it's because of the theme but the building mechanic is so cool that it deserves more than 10 seconds. At current state it is too hard to build decent vehicle..

If you update the game and make the building system more easy to use please tag me I really want to play an improved version of your game ! But at current state it's already one of the best game I played in this jam so far.

I can forgive you for the timeout :p

Good job !

@dimlight
Maybe also tune the randomness of the parts if building is on the ten second timer. There was a lot of instances when I needed a wheel and I just kept getting weapons. Same for when I needed normal structural blocks.

Just to be clear though, I love this game. It's one of my favourites this jam, timeout or not.

This was really really good! Probably the most time I spent playing a game in this LDJ. Similarly to what other have said, it was a lot of fun, however even though the 10s timer makes the game more intense (and links it to the theme of course), it feels a little too short. I think seeing the upcoming parts might help with that? Also perhaps the timer for the game is not really necessary as there is already a loosing condition. In my second playthrough, I felt like finally I was gaining on the rats and perhaps might win, but then the timer ran out. :( I feel like this a great idea for a game and you should expand on it, maybe without the 10s timer though haha. Great visuals too! Anyway, this is a really good entry imo, congrats!

Thanks for the feedback!

The difficulty of building is really the most urgent problem that needs to be changed, we plan to

Add a tetris-like ui to show what will appear next

Add mouse wheel to adjust the angle of the parts

Maybe players can't build a new car until the previous one is completely wiped out, giving plenty of time to relax and watch your unmanned car fight:
As a compensation, players can immediately detonate the current vehicle for the next build :D

But for now our group is exhausted and it's time to sleep

I think the game should reveal all parts from the beginning, so that the player can focus on planning and building a chariot within the 10s limit.

fantastic game! I saw your post you did while the jam was running (when you shared some screenshots etc..) and I definitely didn't think the game will end up like this! really great work, the art style, music, gameplay it's a really creative entry this is. the only think that I wasn't a big fan of is the timer, I know that's what the theme is all about but it feels really fast.. other than that you really did a great job on this one!

Very nice graphics, silly setting, wonky physics. What else could you possibly want?

Everything is looking good, the music, the sound, the graphics. But like others said it is really hard to make a good vehicle.

I've manage to do some good vehicle at the end. But since the pieces seems to come at random, so you never have what you want when you want.

May be a shortcut to be able to chose the kind of piece you want could help.

You should make a "Every 30 seconds" version of this game :D.

Good job anyway, it was fun

This is simply amazing! The art style, music and game mechanics! My only complaint will be: most of creations are too slow and and they die imminently under wheels of my mothership, so making them move a bit faster would be nice. Also, friendly damage is a bit too harsh for a game with 10 seconds limit (I'm doing most of the time more damage to my mothership that to rats XD). Besides that awesome game!

Super cool entry! Really liked building the machines. I wished I had a bit more time to build them, or at least that the randomization was a bit less random because sometimes I had too many bad ships in a row and felt a bit unfair, but that didn't matter at all because the game was still fun. One of the entries I've enjoyed the most, so congratulationes!

Very beautiful game I have to say. (: And also a cool concept even if the game is a little too fast for my taste. :D I seldomly managed to create a vehicle that did not crash on start. Also it is frustrating to see a good vehicle burst because auf loose parts of the enemy vehicles.
It is also a little sad, that the ending is missing.

This was fun! like someone said before, this would make a cool multiplayer game as well! I loved the cart building mechanics and overall gameplay, so I want to add some impressions on that:
- I found some building blocks genuinely more useful than others (i. e. the large wheel: I always clicked that away after a few times because it was just too hard to make that stable)
- The concept of having limited time for each build worked for me, but yeah, 10 seconds is a bit short
- I liked that carts are built continuously, and that you could have multiple carts on track. On the other side, I often couldn't see my current carts in action because I already had to build a new one. I would have liked more time with each creation before moving on

- All audiovisual aspects are great, too :)

I had lot of fun playing this game !
A great execution of a good idea !

I would simply have loved to know a little bit in advance which piece I was going to get, to make planning build a little bit easier. Moreover, I found it disapointing that I couldn't focus on the unit currentoly battling to see how it performed since I hace to constantly build new vehicles franticaly.

An otherwise really great and fun entrey, congrats !

Oh that's a great game, very fun to play! The randomness of building was frustrating at first but after learning to speed-discard pieces it got easier and I finished the game on my third attempt. Had a ton of fun seeing what kind of wacky cars I was able to build (and how some of them self destructed :D), super well done!

Edit: Oh, minor bug: When the screen fades to black it doesn't fill the whole screen with resolutions higher than 1080p I think, probably need to set the canvas scaling settings to Expand or something in Unity, here's 1440p in my case:

The game has a cool atmosphere. Mice and a cat are adorable. The art and sound are cool.

I like the idea of the constructor, but some details are frustrating:
1. 10 seconds is not enough to realize the capacity of the structure.
2. Cars often behave unpredictably due to realistic physics. Either the car falls from the wreckage under the details of the "tank", or they fall on their side because of the shots.
3. Random! And it wouldn't be critical if I had the opportunity to remove the interfering details. For example, "throw away" them by moving them beyond the "zone" of the constructor.

It took me a while to figure out that the parts could be rotated. Even despite the tutorial. This happened because when I started playing, I was distracted by the comprehension of details and basic controls. Only in the 3rd race I remembered that there is a rotation. x)

The basic gameplay is very good. It needs polishing, but I still liked the game!

06. Oct 2022 · 02:14 UTC
Love the idea and the art! But its too hard for me as well. A tutorial should help understanding how to actually build a good vehicle in 10 seconds.
It would be less frustrating if the parts are given in a pattern, like "Body, wheel, weapon".
Overall, great entry with high quality production!

Played for a while because it was fun, but I couldn't get anywhere, it's really difficult haha. I can't fault it since it's part of the theme that it was only 10 seconds, but I think it was also that there was so many different parts to the build that trying to find things to work together in the 10 seconds was too much. Good art, good music and pretty fun gameplay!

06. Oct 2022 · 08:03 UTC
Games with high scores.
Can take into account the art and music at the same time have fun, in 10 seconds with parts to assemble the cat siege car and mouse siege car confrontation, damaged siege car can also be used as a broken piece of attack to continue the attack. After the battle has become longer, the variety of blocks that can be used has also increased a lot, and the use of high damage weapons will have to pay more attention to balance and speed, and there are many connections to expand the size of the car. (I actually don't know how to use them, many of the uses of the cubes were learned from the rat's siege cart)
A bit of advice: you can tell me in advance what the next square is, just like Tetris. The later stage is much more difficult to build a car that can not compete with the rat, only to let him roll over himself

Hey guys, it's a good one, however I was always distracted to check how my craft is working rather building a new one. So that's probably something to keep in mind next time. Have to point out that the mothership in your case is far more cool and dangerous! And you have kittens! :cat:

Nice entry, I love the little cat riding the the mothership with the epic music blasting. The build mechanic restricted to 10secs is nice but it's sometimes frustrating when you don't get the piece you need and you lose half of the 10secs just to cycle through the options.

Wow, this game was buckets of fun! One of the best entries I've played if not the best.
Game is polished and solid, graphics and audio top notch. Heavy metal adhd mad max mood is well set :D

Ten seconds is an iffy bit too little time to build stuff from random components, the game could benefit if you had even one memory slot or you could juggle around already placed blocks or something. Still it was great fun when you can spy on enemy builds and try to make your own according to them and also the feeling of success is great when your build at last holds together and even makes it to the enemy carrier.

Great entry overall. Nice use of physics!

Oh, and I played it till we fell out of the cliff. Couldn't destroy the enemy carrier before that.

The builds reminded me a little of bad piggies ( the angry birds spin off game ) , but with a mad max vibe. Really liked the character design, if you did a post-jam version with extra build time, it'd be amazing !

I may have got it wrong, but if there's a time limit AND you get random order of parts, it becomes a bit too frantic ( at least for us old people ) , maybe since we're using mouse / touch , let the player pick parts from tray ?

Haha this is definitely a challenging game, and so far this jam I haven't seen anything like it! There have been no building games in 10 seconds, and the fact that there are so many ways for something to go wrong it makes it even worse (in a good way). I'd love to see someone master the game, it's definitely possible. On some Fortnite levels of rapid building.

Not sure if I ever hit the enemy tank more than maybe 6 times. I started with simple 1 cannon tanks, but eventually started getting okay at stacking my tank better and assigning 2 cannons. But overall, I probably failed on 90% of my designs anyways.

I really do love the overall concept. I know the theme is probably too limiting, but a version where you have variable amounts of time to construct something (maybe due to a resource you farm) would allow for some nice progression. Pretty ambitious entry overall, I'm not sure I'd know how to code something like this myself.

Love the game, its lighting in a bottle by far the best one from LD51 I've played.

the only feedback I have is try to lean in to how crazy it is I was playing this with some friends, and after we fell off the edge of the world quite a few times, we decided to try the 1.2 build.

the piece preview is great but over all it was much less fun with out all of the craziness of having to build while the last chariot was out mixed with your own chariot's smashing in to one another. It went from something we were playing non stop trying to figure out to very easy and a little bland.

We actually ended up going back down to the LD version to recapture the fun crazy energy your game had in its first build.

Overall love the game, but if you keep going with it please at least include a mode with the crazy energy your first LD submission had!

Fun, but the RNG + the extreme time pressure makes it a bit too tense to build anything that works reasonably. So in the end it's frustrating.
I could have played for hours, if for every ten seconds I spent building the ship, a new penalty would be added or something like that. Making it my responsibility to increase time pressure.
Very very solid entry, I'd play an extend version :)

Awesome game! I loved the gameplay, and the graphics & sounds were amazing too. It was really fun experimenting with different ideas and learning what works and what doesn't. I actually enjoyed the 10 seconds limit: it forced me to focus on quick-to-assemble builds, which was an interesting challenge - although the Tetris UI was instrumental for that. One thing I would've liked is a tutorial which explains what each part does: I still don't understand what the propeller and cone thing do. Other than that, incredible entry! As others have said, I'm waiting for a post-Jam multiplayer version :)

Thanks for all the feedback

@rosymaple
In fact, we also prefer the initial version of the difficulty settings, but there is too much feedback too difficult, so we made a lot of changes to reduce the difficulty, which does reduce the level of confusion a lot, perhaps let the mouse side to keep 10 seconds to make a drone car can alleviate this problem, many enemy vehicles put together is very fragile, this is to be able to make the player's car can easily one to beat multiple vehicles. This would have been good, but if the rats' vehicles are only born when the player's vehicles are born, then obviously they are too weak. Thanks for the feedback, maybe I can try to convince our program to make a double difficulty version. Because as you can see the 1.2 version will also have people unable to complete the game. Maybe the 1.2 version would be good as an easy mode.

@frogman,@fifut,@ingo-holle,@lorwon
These days several of our team is also thinking about how it should be if made into a multiplayer game, there are too many ideas, and it is not certain that these ideas will make the game more interesting. This may not be a goal that can be achieved in 1 month, so until then let's wait for the voting results!

Super fun and cute game!

The mechanic is super smart and fun, the art is gorgeous, the sound design works nice.
I especially liked the randomness during the building phase, it couples well with the timer tension. As other said, 10 seconds mights be a bit short though?

Why is it not in the Extra category though if there is no version done in 72h? Is it not possible to move a jam game to Extra? I am sorry, but I cannot rate it as if it was a jam game!

Thanks for the game anyway and great job on this ✨

I wish it was more obvious that I could right click to throw away unwanted pieces, because I discovered that wuite late. And the bomb shooters seemed to have a pretty poor arc that often ended up in me shooting myself, but after learning a bit (two types of wheels??) and using the power of the rocket launcher I completed the game!

Great experience overall!

Has to be one of the best games I played so far this jam. The rush to quickly make a vehicle feels great, and accidents still are fun to see drive out, and fun seeing all the options available in design. Music and sounds are a great fit, and enjoy a good cat centric game.

I really like the idea behind this game, and the kitty in the tank is super cute (that is why I tried it out) but I think I am not so good at Tetris-style games, so i'm not sure how to offer suggestions on how to make it better. I played it a few times though! Nice entry!

Really cute artstyle and looks amazingly well done for a gamejam game. I struggled with making good cars but that just added to it. Fits the theme pretty well and works perfectly.

Took me forever, but I beat it! Hard to get the hang of making vehicles quickly, but it was a lot of fun and there was a lot of variation. Good work!

I couldn't beat the game but I really had lots of fun trying to build some crazy cardboard tank to blast these damn mice. Like many other games, the 10 sec theme is making the game more frustrating than it adds to the actual gameplay: I would love to see a version of the game *without* the 10s constraint :)

Oh waw, that's actually a pretty unique concept. I wonder if you could turn this into a full game. With other phases where you manage your vehicule, maybe a system where you can choose what tetris parts will be available to do. For now, my favorite game of all the one I played this LD. Very good work!
