Rogue 'n Royal by Bauke Regnerus
Rogue 'n Royal places you in the role of a messenger who needs to deliver a cure to the ill king within time.
Rogue 'n Royal is a lighthearted minimal adventure game where any conflict or challenge is resolved by a minigame. It's a rather short game to finish, but there are several little stories and secret to find on a new play-through.
Drawing simple art and creating a cute world is just a lot of fun!

Nothing rogue about it
The idea for a world made up of tiles with different dimensions was a concept I had in mind from the start. Initially I wanted to create a colony sim, but I couldn't find a satisfying implementation of the theme. So I switched to a roguelike/lite instead. I abandoned that idea suspecting writing generators would take too much of my time, only to find out that all the manual labor takes a lot of time too. Hence a very short game (yet with a lot to discover).

A little help
A hot topic, but I used ChatGPT to help me write the poems and flavor texts. I'm a sucker for narrative games, but since I'm not a native English speaker, it's not something I can pull off without external help. Still, the devil is in the details, and I had to correct and edit the texts quite a lot.

here are two minor things that would have make it even better: some info on the items on your bag (more than just the name, because i didn't know what the artifacts were for until i got to use one in the boss fight), and a slightly improved random generation for minigames (because i got 2 mazes with zero red node in one single game, so it was kinda easy).
Overall, **really** great work!
My only complaint is abou the mini games being exceedingly brutal, but that's just a personal preference.
Great job!
I deem the very idea of this type of game is very creative.
I'd love to hear more SFX.
The adventure itself felt nice. And it actually being short invited me to replay a couple of times to see the stuff that you can find on other tiles  I liked the character development system as well - always liked the "learn by doing" systems.
Overall, it's a great jam game and kudos for creating it!
Pros:
Slick UI
Engaging Gameplay
Simple but choice filled progression (different paths)
Cons:
Frustrating because No Checkpoints and Combat can spike in difficulty
I absolutely adore the look and style. The amount of mini-games + level of polish is astounding. :open_mouth:
It was such a fun game to play through multiple times. Such a neat idea and vibe. The music is perfect too. :ok_hand: (If not a bit intense in parts. lol). It was hyping me up. Even opening a treasure chest was stressful.
And mini games are well chosen to do the quest ! Hope you will continue and publish the game you have something to do with it !
Overall I liked the concept a lot, I think it can be a really good game with enough design iterations & polish.
It's nice to see something this polished. It all played very fluently. However, I think they're also some issues with the concept as implemented as a jam game; namely that you're stretching yourself too thin.
It's true that the sum is more than the parts, especially when it comes to this particular game, but the individual parts are threadbare -- any less and they wouldn't have functioned at all.
I think this also shows the weakness of using AI (as it is right now). It's perfectly serviceable, but bland. I think I'd have preferred something with character, even if it had been worse.
Possible bug: I could always give the king the skull, even if I didn't have it.
The art-style is nice too, and the main menu is quite full-featured! ('Not the band' made me smile.)
Great game, i love the varity of "mini game". Great art !
I liked that there were different routes to travel that opened up different options. I also liked the various tile sizes making me think of "routes that let me explore more tiles".
