I didn't expect to laugh so much while playing!! I love the aesthetic and artwork of the game, the sound effects matched really nicely with it as well. I was playing by myself and the AI got progressively harder which I really liked, I can imagine playing this with 2-player be really intense and make some good moments. Great job!!!
This was fun. I was defeated, but I managed to get him out of the ring on the final round. I think knocking people out when you go flying is awesome, then the ring getting smaller. I also love the little sounds they make. The only thing it's really missing is some great music to go along with it.
@frodob4884 Thanks! I'm glad you had fun! If you want to have an edge against your buddy, there is a little secret : you can cancel charged attack at any time by pressing the guard button 🤫
@lelulagames thanks! Yeah the music is not so great for this game. @Aune tried to make something better right before the deadline but wasn't able to achieve it in time sadly...
@onionlabs @kate-arty & @braeden thanks for the kind words! I agree, @khan made an awesome job with the Chara design!
Really fun game! I like your take on the theme. The sound effects and little details like the crowd closing in or falling down make it extra entertaining.
Loved the art style for this! The mechanics were fun and I think this fits the theme really well. Overall I think this is an amazing entry for the jam, great work!
Beautiful artwork! Really love the illustration style! (@khan - you should add any art related socials you have on your LD user page. People might be interested seeing more of your work ;) ) I really liked the persistent vanquished enemies and the knocked down bystanders!
Super fun as well!
Only feedback would be that I would prefer that the matches ended as soon as one player has two wins - At that point the last round is just a waste of time really. But that's just a personal preference. :)
@mascoll Thanks a lot for the kind words !
And everyone else's for that matter, we're reading each messages and appreciating all of your feedbacks !
Sadly I don't have any art related socials to share for now, but I'm considering participating for future events :)
This was my first video-game project, and seeing the game jam veterans @furano and @aune at work was a blast
I really liked the game, extremely well executed in all regards. The graphics were super fun and he whole game looked and sounded great. The little details were really charming, like the bystanders moving in with the ring and being knocked over by the wrestlers.
Good job on the AI! I found it quite challenging, but beatable with the right moves, just as it should be!
@furano still crashes and probably with same error :(
You can find log here if you're interested: https://gist.github.com/YogurtTheHorse/8f182f784983de65ad4ac59034b6e811
But I guess it's too much of work for some random guy as me, so it's fine! But if you want to investigate you may be want to move this conversation to some other place. In that case I have discord account: yogurtthehorse
I really wanted to try this game, it caught my attention, it's quite fun, maybe I would remove the first two fights because the first three are very simple (I literally won just by pressing D), then it gets more complicated and I find it interesting that one of the options you have is not part of your control, if not cause the enemy to leave the area.
This is really cool! I love the atmosphere, and the art. It looks really polished overall! It's quite fun to fight haha and I think the circle closing in is a really nice feature. The game hits the theme right on the head.
Overall this is really well done, nice job! I'll have to come back later and try to two player version haha
Ahh this is so fun!! Really charming, if only I was better at it. The art style is unique and creative - I love how the bystanders fall over if someone is launched into them, the controls are ingeniously simple, but full of depth and require some mastery. I just know that playing this with a buddy would be very intense kdskj! You guys did an insanely good job. Didn't manage to get to the end unfortunately but I think I got pretty far, like 4 or 5. If I knew how many there were left I may have kept going x)

Just great art, really love the style. The sound effects are fun, the cheering when you win made me laugh. A clear fit to the theme. And you have made a relatively complex combat system with only a couple of buttons which is very cool, I formed a strategy where I would charge out of the way of charging enemies so they would eliminate themselves which worked for me a few times. Well done on such a cool game!
Thanks everyone for the kind words and constructive feedbacks!
@hagamosvideojuegos yeah I agree, I feel now that the first Ai are too easy and are just a chore after a few trials... We were hesitating with allowing player to try again against the same enemy when they die, which may solve this issue.
@fupi thanks for the artwork! Nice calves! 😬
There are 5 enemy in total : yo u were very close to the end, congrats! You are right, I think listing the number of fight left could be a great incentive for replayability. We'll think about it next jam!
@danjoricey WTF we had the exact same idea?! That's so cool, I definitly have to try your game to see a different point of view on the same core mechanic! :wrestlers:
"Calves of the Braves" is a true **hors-d'œuvre** with an **astonishing** flavor. It has a **tasty**, **lovely** concept with substance. All of this is wrapped in a **sweet** and **delightfully** **amusing** artistic coating that **isn't afraid to take risks**. It's a game that brings a **unique** gaming experience, a **true delight for video game gourmet**.
*Chirac would be proud. :fire: *
This is great! I would like the respite between rounds to be a little faster :3
Generally I love the challenge and dynamiс gameplay. Sound of the crowd cheering after the rounds is very funny xD
Great game, it's really fun! I only tried it on single player tho, if only i had friend lol. Adding online multiplayer to this seems like the obvious choice for post jam
very nice one!
To be honest I was pretty confused with the controls, but I -kinda- got used to them.
I loved the artstyle and the humor. I got as far as the third opponent, I'll try again later to win some more.
If I could change something, it would be playing the 3rd match, after already losing the first 2. The game should immediately end to a loss.
I had a super fun time playing this! (Works excellent on linux BTW!) The art style was fun and I really enjoyed the sound effects and visuals of when a character lost the round. Excellent job! My only complaint is that it did take me a few rounds before I actually understood how to play and was able to beat the first level. I make games, that doesn't mean I'm any good at them LOL
Wow that artstyle is wonderfull. It's hard to believe that this game has been made in 3 days. Tho when the enemy is charging it's maybe to easy to dodge them, and if i dodge, they go out of the ring by themselves, that makes the game way to easy, you don't really need to attack them, just keep running. Great Job tho !
I LOVE this art style and the gameplay was nice and creative, I don't often like button mashing but when the two were charging towards each other it was a really cool way to break the tie and it was *very hype* when I managed to knock the opponent off the ring simply from a proper mashing.
The audio department felt a little lacking, from no music to no punchy feedback sounds, which would *greatly* enhance the experience, but it was nice nonetheless and a wonderful use of the theme!
Good job! Most of my comments have been covered above so I won't repeat them. I did find that sometimes the controls felt a little unresponsive. If there were a more obvious visual/audio indication of when your attack cooldown ended, I think that would help a lot. Sometimes I think I got the timing off by a small amount and ended up not attacking when I meant to.
@greenphox could you please specify what felt wrong with the controls for you ? Was it the key placement or the fact that there was different actions on key press and key hold ? Maybe the control were not feeling responsive for you ?
Some people told me the same thing about the round. It may have been the best decision indeed...
@jerem-watts Thanks a lot for taking the time to play my game !! Seeing other people playing your own game is always so much interesting !! I'm a little sad the AI kept killing itself during your run however :crying_cat_face:
@queenofsquiggles thank for the feedback on Linux ! We were not able to try it ourselves so I'm glad it worked out without a flaw !
@mathkarma yes sadly, We never noticed it while playtesting since we were facing them head on... Definitly something to improve next time ! Thank for the feedback
@catusfelony Many more sound were recorded but not included due to a lack of time sadly. However there was supposed to have background music, it probably was bugged in your case. It happened to some people, no idea why 😣
@lovewerk That's actually a great feedback we didn't think of ! Thank you !
@notinatal Thanks !! And thank you very much for the video, it is tremendously helpful to improve our games !
Superb! The whole aesthetics is great - the art, the colors, the animations. Soundscape is also fitting and well-made. The minimalistic music fits well, and the tacking sounds are just hilarious
The game plays well. But I didn't even need to tackle anyone to become the Brave. I just bravely got out of the way, and they threw themselves out of bounds . The area getting smaller with each round was nicely implemented and a neat idea.
Congrats on the game. You really made a titanic job!
@fabula-rasa yeaaah the Ai definitly needs a fixing.... But that's too big to be a simple bug fix and thus is not really suitable for post jam modifications 😅
If you do try to confront it head to head it is really puting up quite a fight!
However if you start running everywhere like an headless chicken, it instantly kill itself... What a silly Ai 😂
Anyway thank you for the feedbacks ans kind words !
@furano I LOVE running around everywhere like a headless chicken! That's the best way to spend an evening  But in all seriousness, I did also try fighting the proper way and the AI was putting up a fight . The king kicked my *claves* properly.
Super nice! The use of the theme was awesome, also the artstyle is amazing! Couldn't imagine the enormous amount of effort you put into the game. Great job!
5/5 on the Atmosphere, the entire game feels cohesive and fully fleshed out. I found the movement a little jarring a first, the accerleration often lead me to fly out of the ring, but I got the hang of it.
I love the little details, like the persistant bodies of your fallen foe and how the crowd also falls over - It's a really poslished experience and I can imagine playing this on the couch with some friends.
Incredible game, Just perfect! If i ever played this i would have never guesse dthis was made by 3 dev in just 3 days! Insane, Looks and feels like a fully fledged game.
Simple controls still keep the game fresh after playing multiple times.

Wow, very impressive, and I love the art style. Gameplay was fun but tricky - I made it to the halo guy but only defeated him once, and that was just by dodging, making him run out of the ring. Everybody else I fought seemed able to be defeated by spamming K, although I did occasionally lose. The changing ring size was a neat touch, and the music was nice. Great work! Fun game.
What a great entry! Your art and music direction really set the atmosphere quite nice. I managed to defeat 4 enemies but found that fifth one to be quite a challenge  Keep on making games!
This was a very nice and polished game to play I like that the circle gets smaller when doing each defeat! However, there are not so many reasons to not just spam push and win. It was my only strategy and it made me win through all the difficulties. I don't know how one would punish this behavior, but it would be something to think about going forward.
Sumo meets Battle Royale :D I think I was able to spam pushing and then running and tackling, but just because I was playing against AI. I'm sure this is fun as hell playing with people!
Beautiful art style ! Good gamefeel, very fun !
I love your presentation <3 !
Too much too too cool to see a 2 player game, I tested it with my girlfriend it was so good ! we laughed a lot ! haha
Very very good job team !
Your presentation *-*
Awesome little game, lots of fun to play ! I got to the fifth opponent in a row, don't know if gets harder, but it did feel like it.
The graphics look great, and the gameplay is awesome.
Very nice entry overall ! GG.
Lovely little game! Suprisingly complex for such simple controls, that AI must have been also hard to make work that way. The art is also really cool and unique!
@hakro yes it does become more difficult for each level!
we have a difficulty slider from 0 to 1, the higher the number, the less likely the Ai is to make "dumb" decisions.
we still have a little bit a issues with Ai running of the ring in the jam version however...
@falestress thanks for testing the 2 player version! We made most of the debugging/balancing fighting each other. It was so fun that I though I HAD to find a way to add it properly into the game ahah. I'm glad some people enjoy it as well!
Great job! I think I might have bugged the game out a couple of times (SFX stopped working at one point which seemed strange), but it was still a lot of fun regardless.
Great game! Loved the art, gameplay, and sound effects. The character design is great.
I think the AI of the enemy could be polished a little bit so they dont go out of bounds when trying to get the player, made some fights too easy.
Love the artwork, very consistent. The only thing I'm missing a bit is a more upbeat soundtrack, it is a sumo game after all :p It did work out in the end, I can see this being a fun multiplayer partygame, kinda like fall guys ?
Well done and thank you for submitting this gem to my stream.
Wohoo and the crowd went wild! I somehow managed to kill myself rushing out of the gate than the opponent but I calmed down, meditated, found my inner peace and managed to reach victory! Well done, lovely game.
Now excuse me, I have to go bother my husband and make him play with me XD
Awesome game! Totally love the graphics and art style - the animations of the characters, the crowd, everything fits so nice. Also the little details, that you can push the opponent into the crowd. Very polished game and good take onto the theme. Definitely one of the best games I played so far.
Hey, I’m the host of the Ludum Dare score chasers tournament for this jam
Wanted to ask for score chasers if you were fine with me playing some gameplay of your game in the background in the waiting period. In the waiting period while a music track is playing itll cycle through gameplay from a bunch of different games in the background
Heeey!
Congratz of finishin the project!
Had a good time playing the game. Quite challenging but i liked it very much!
Few notes from my playthrough:
- Took me a while to feel comfortable with the charged attacks but when it clicked was cool.
- At first, my tactics was just to spam quick attacks, which i think is still the safest with further enemies, i simply didn't have enough time for the charge attack.
- Sometimes i had impression that the same enemies have different difficulty in another playthrough but mby it's because of rng gods and attacks that they chose.
- Really like the graphics! Characters with lovely animations standing around the dohyō <3
- Nice sfxes, would be even cooler with the music (played only jam build).
Really good stuff here. Nice potential for more post jam updates.
Thanks and see ya on the next one!

Yeah, what hasn't been said, great game. Very impressed with the difficulty curve, was perfect. Art and animations good too. The shrinking ring fit the theme but not really a big part of the game. Yeah amazing job.
Wow, very well done, both graphically and soundly, and fun. In the long run, it gets boring not having anything new, but of course that's just because of the short time of the jam. Solid mechanics. We have something here
This game is crazy and I absolutely love it. It took exactly two minutes for the art style to grow on me, and when it did, I realized there's no way back for me now. I don't know what was going in your heads when you were making this, but oh god, I want some of that.
My calves of thunder are ready and willing.
Really good! Simple idea but lots of polish and a nice amount of challenges. Was really cool to get into a button mash standoff the first time. Love the characters.
Mechanics are easy to understand and mostly feel good, but there is something about the cooldown that made you have to press K or L again sometimes because if you held it after pressing it too early it didn't start the action, at least for me (e.g. trying to block after just hitting wouldn't block unless I let go of the key and pressed it again).
Graphics are really pleasant (not to mention fabulous) and the sound design is fun, some effect to make it sound less like a small room might've added some extra grandeur to the already grand spectacle :p
As an aside, having to do a third attempt when you'd already lost the first two and had already lost felt a bit unnecessary, maybe there should've been some bonus associated with winning the last round?
Only nitpicking a little extra because everything overall is just so well done already.
I'll try to add a Mac export tonight, but the Apple signing process is convoluted.... I'll let you know and tag you when a Mac version is available!
I only played against the CPU and it was already pretty fun! Multiplayer must be hilarious!
Great great graphics. The AI could have used some more loving but hey, it's a jam game, it cannot be perfect
Congrats for making a great game
Great game, I enjoyed every second of it.
The enemies who can run out of the ring to the audiance getting hurt haha.
Super fun as well!
Only feedback would be that I would prefer that the matches ended as soon as one player has two wins - At that point the last round is just a waste of time really. But that's just a personal preference. :)
