Make New Friends by Benjamin Halko
The people of LudumDare™ Land are lonely and in need of friends! Use the Friend-o-matic™ to summon new friends for them. Will you be able to create friends for everyone before you die?!?

This was my 5th time participating in Ludum Dare.

I love how the core mechanics is simple but the execution is near perfect, the level of polish is amazing

The work on the sound is something, well done !

It's like a rhythm game but for people like me without any rhythm but with good reaction time. It's really fun!
Sometimes I think figures are lagged. But It's simple and good and fun.
Well done!
@kpids Interesting... I'll look into it. Thanks for letting me know. (Edit: I think I fixed it, it was an issue due to the song looping)
Good stuff all around, a very enjoyable play experience.
Thanks for explaining the leaderboard on stream, the irony of those at the top looking for friends most often is pretty witty.
My only real complaint was that I had such a hard time remembering which shape/color corresponded to which arrow key - I would have definitely preferred if there was some sort of visual cue for which direction to press, because I apparently have the memory of a goldfish and had to keep looking down at the key in the corner 😅 I think this is in fact what the kids call a "skill issue" though - The game was just emphasizing a skill that I don't have!
Overall, really good job! I had a lot of fun!
Also, your dad is a king bro, the soundtrack is epic and fits the game so well

Got to #2 on the leaderboard post stream, im coming for that #1 spot
of things but I dig it! And the music is sweet too!
Great Work!
The only thing I would like to see change, is maybe some more distinct colors or add some lines or something within the shapes (green and yellow kinda similar-ish to me)
Playthrough can be found here: https://youtu.be/9X9SR_20PuQ
There's a ton of great visual polish here. I've stopped playing, but the music is still running in my head and my toe is still going to that beat. Nicely done.
Addictiveness is on-point

The game is super fun, I love this cute and friendly sound when you successfully match the incoming shape. The music is also pretty good.
There are two small things that could be improved in my opinion. I know it's not a rhythm game, but it seems very similar and my muscle memory tricks me here constantly: shapes should be considered not matched when they run out of your screen/leave the space where you spawn your shapes, not when they touch it. In rhythm games you usually want to press the button when the note is right on top of your reference point, not before it. Imho it would be nice if this game here allowed pressing the shape in later moment like this.
Also, the sound and visual effects when you complete the round look as if you messed something up, but they are signalling the good outcome (you have finished a level and you're going to the next one).
Other than that, there's nothing to complain about. Great entry, gj!
got super close to level 10 as well
I also just spotted that the name of the friends are taken from the leaderboard. That's awesome!!
OMG first place but 1 friend away from lv 10 :(
Sorry for spamming the comment section, but I got level 10 :balloon: :fire:
Despite your insistence that this isn't a rhythm game, I found it much easier to keep up my combo by thinking of it that way.
The game has a bug. Happend to me twice now, IDK if the first time was exactly at the same spot but it was half way trough level 12 as well
At level 12 35/70 friends, the game stops accepting friend matches, but you still get negative points for switching. After roughly 20 seconds maybe, the game resumes as normal and almost inevatably you loose a live.
Right now I had a live to spare at that point but the first time the bug happend my run ended right there.
Would be nice if that could be fixed ;)
I'll try to record it happening if that helps.
Detailed description:
-you reach level 12 35/70
-when a shape hits your summoned friend nothing happens, the shape dissapears, no sound, no points, no live lost.
-shapes keep spawning like normal
-you still loose points for switching
-after maybe 20 seconds game goes back to normal
-I reached that point twice, both times the bug happened
They definetly weren't present before and I restarted PC, cleared browsing cache everything, so I don't think it can be anything on my side
it was running fine on my laptop before and its still running fine on my desktop. So maybe the issue is on my end.
btw the difficulty increase from 12 to 13 is insane. I got into lv 13 with full health 3-4 times now and lost very quickly every time :D
its fine I got used to it and beat it now :D
@wendel-scardua Yeah, the itch version isn't meant to be played on mobile. It doesn't have access to the virtual keyboard.
