Cat and Box by LDJam user 160

[raw]
made by LDJam user 160 for Ludum Dare 55 (COMPO)

There are boxes on your way to the yellow portal! However you are too weak to push the boxes yourself, so you summon some cats to push the boxes for your. But the cats are somehow stupid and they always push the boxes to the very end...

Also, you need to open the doors with green switches on the floor!

Arrow key to move/select summon position Z to start summoning cat Enter to bring up a menu for restart or go back to title

I love this!!! Fun, clean, polished, the only thing I think it lacks is some background... why are the kitties doing such intense work? :D

I love it! This type of puzzle game is my favorite. The levels are really thoughtfully designed so that you have that satisfying "aha" moment to figure out the twist. My game is also a Sokoban-like if you want to check it out too!

Great puzzle game! Cute art and sounds, and straight-forward mechanic. Could definitely see this turned into a whole game if you wanted to.

I love this game's mechanics and how you can act as the "buffer" to make carrying boxes work in the game. The cat is my best friend and so am myself lol i guess. You really got some good levels down the road, especially for the duo-boxing rotating puzzles (level 16 specifically) that you have to push boxes around the entire room, which feels really great! Good Job!

congratulations for having succeeded in making a skoboban with the theme of invocation, the game is very clever and we want to go to the end to discover all the levels that have been concocted. I always attach more importance to the content than to the container but here there is a little lack of container to be truly satisfied by the experience. the gameplay is solid and clever, well done for that.

Beat every level. Fairly simple game, but good puzzles, good challenge, works with the theme, audio and visuals work for what it's going for. Well done!

Ah nice! Very similar to my own entry, but with actual puzzles that require some thinking! It's very polished and I think the graphics and sound work well together. Great job on the entry. :)

Very clever little puzzle here! I love how the cats just poof out of existence after their job is done. You get a lot of depth out of the mechanic... the last level was super tricky, but I managed to solve it! I wish there had been some kind of victory screen at the end though for completing all the levels. :p

Simple mechanics, executed perfectly. The puzzles were really well designed, and the visuals and sound effects are quite fitting too. Fun entry! You managed to squeeze out a lot of depth from a seemingly simple mechanic.

As puzzle games go, once I got a hang of the summoning mechanic (the tutorial-esque/level selection screen at the start could have been used to help show this) it was a pretty fun game, just the right kind of level I was after. Not too hard, not too easy, required a little bit of thinking. Nicely pitched there.

Very fun game! I love the use of mechanics that leads to the puzzle solving using your own body to help direct the cats. I think it's important for you to state that no cats were harmed in the playing of this game. :)

Really very cute! I finished all sixteen levels, and I must say that some were quite brain-teasing! Definitely a little gem, perfect for a jam, and it flows smoothly, leaving you eager to continue and finish it. Really well done.

I made it through, including stage 16! Very nice :)

Sokoban-with-a-twist is always great.

The level progression wasn't very even, I'm not sure if that was intended or not, but level difficulty went up and down a lot. Not necessarily a bad thing, it's nice to have a breather every now and then :) And getting sixteen levels done in an LD game is impressive!

It took me a bit to get used to the controls, Arrows are fine, but enter for menu and z and v for "do" and "cancel" are a bit odd. No big deal though!

Overall I always enjoy the pico-8 aesthetic, and you made the most of that, well done!

A really excellent take on the genre. Great level design. The puzzles were increasingly challenging and in perfect order (except maybe 14 which felt slightly harder than 15) and not large or complex enough to be boring (like some Sokoban levels tend to be). Did you plan for switches of different colours? That would be interesting, too.

Simple yet well designed. As was said above the only thing I can think of is that stage 14 is harder than 15. But other than that very clever puzzle and fun to play.

It's neat that this is in pico 8, I was expecting it to be a puzzle script game based on the art style. My main complaints are that you don't have an undo button and restarting requires bringing up the menu, but that wasn't a big deal for any of the puzzles. The puzzle mechanic is interesting. While it's not the deepest mechanic I've seen in sokoban games, it's good enough for the length of the game and the level design explores it well. I didn't notice any issues with the order of difficulty that some other commenters mentioned.

Great sokoban game, some really clever puzzles too; it was satisfying to finally figure out the solution for the last level after going round and round in circles :D

Awesome puzzle game and funny we both made puzzle games about summoning cats, though this one is much more developed. Would have been nice if it had some 8-bit background music, but still good. Probably one of the best games I've seen in this jam. The concept of being able to place a cat within the four cardinal directions around you was unique and fun to fiddle with :)
