Tiny Summoner by LDJam user 238639

[raw]
made by LDJam user 238639 for Ludum Dare 55 (COMPO)

You are a lone, tiny warlock that can't fight, but you know some friends who can! Collect power crystals to summon monsters to fight for you. Different monsters have different abilities that will help you in battle! See how long you can survive and how many enemies you can defeat!

Use WASD or the arrow keys to move and use the mouse to choose which monster to summon once you have enough crystals. Enemies will begin to deal more damage the longer you survive, so make your choices wisely!

Update 1.1: - Added Vsync option for those who don't want to run the game at 1000+ fps (or listen to coil whine from their graphics card) - Fixed a bug that was preventing crystals and enemies from spawning on the left and right sides of the screen - Made some minor balance adjustments to keep the game from being played indefinitely (it might still be possible on paper, but it should be MUCH more difficult now); The enemies' damage increasing should prevent you from becoming immortal.

Got 247 enemies slain. Really like gameplay because it gets harder and harder. Great job with this one.

Great Game. Had a ton of fun playing. Well polished. Super fast. Could be easily some of these addicting mobile games with a bit more content and polish.

Top Job!

The gameplay is very cute! The feeling of passing through enemies is very satisfying. Above all, the movement is fluid and creates interesting dynamics

Great job! It works incredibly well, it's a simple but very effectif gameplay alongside a charming art style. I love the face of the monsters we summon! The fact they all behave differently brings a great deal of diversity to your game, and all of them are really good ideas.

Unfortunately, I am running on some pretty old hardware, so I had to switch to opengl3 and the game crashed during my two plays (one at level 25, the other at level 31 judging by what was written in the console). I wanted to keep playing :'(

In all seriousness, great game, congrats!

It's always amazing how good rythm and difficulty can make a simple design addictive, congratz!

@linky439 Thank you for the feedback! Sorry about the crashing issue. For switching to opengl3, you're referring to the Compatibility setting in Godot, right? I gave that a run real quick and didn't experience the crash, so it might just be an old hardware or driver issue. I would be interested to try and fix it, though I'm not sure if I can.

@dovodx Yeah, don't sweat it too much: my graphic card is probably almost 15 years old at this point so if I am the only one who encountered it I wouldn't put too much time in trying to investigate this point ;)

This was awesome - tons of fun to play, great music, and a lot of variety in the summons. Started slow but got to be kind of overwhelming pretty quickly which I loved. Really enjoyed pinging around while my small army did all my dirty work.

This arena-style survival summoning game is addictingly fun once you get a sustainable run going, until it gets too difficult that is. I like how well thought out the 5 summonable creatures are, and I also like the variety of enemies as well. Good work! (And thanks for the Linux version.)

This is a really fun game to play, honestly one of my favorites so far. I love how fast and chaotic it is, and it was very easy to get right into it without much need for a tutorial. Good variety of summons, and they're all quite balanced as well. Mr Chompy is my homie.

Really had a ton of fun you should be proud! Game play was really enjoyable, with a few polishes here and there it would be steam ready!

This is a tooooon of fun!! Really great job!

The only pain point was the sound effects became very repetitive and happened very frequently. I like to randomize the pitch of those sound effects, just up or down by 10% each time it plays, and it seems to fix that.

Looks like you used gdscript, i think that means you can make a web build!
(please make a web build so i can play your game ❤️)

@cheesepencil I tried a few times to get web export working, but unfortunately I can't get it to work despite following the Embedding Guide. Not sure if it's an issue with Godot 4.2. Sorry :(

Wow I was really impressed with this game! It was a lot of fun to play, and had a gameplay loop that worked really well to keep me engaged for a decently long time. This game reminds me a lot of Vampire Survivors, which is a good thing if that's what you were going for.

I'd say the next step would be to work on the audio and visuals, but I think the game being really fun more than compensates for that. Awesome work!
