Information:
Widdle Werewolves is a snakelike number-dungeon[1] romcom maze. It controls with WASD (or regional equivalent), arrow keys, possibly controller due to default Godot inputs? and an on-screen d-pawpad that's automatically (and permanently) toggled on for mobile users, while being automatically (but optionally) toggled off for PC users. You can pause[2] with 'ESC', spacebar, or 'P' (or regional non-QWERTY equivalent).
GAME TIPS:
You're a lot faster than your tamed Dougs at the beginning, so it might seem frozen when they're catching up to you on Boss Doug 256 (and the other bosses). Also, they may be tamed, but they've got clutzy claws, so try not to run into them while they're following you around!
- [1] Also known as "those awful misleading ads for Hero Wars"
- [2] If you'll be playing in fullscreen, 'P' or spacebar (or the on-screen button) are recommended for the pause menu since 'ESC' overlaps with the universal browser's "get me outta this dang full screen" key. Additionally, Firefox or Opera are recommended for playing in fullscreen on PC, as it seems to run like crap in fullscreen Chrome (on my computer anyway). Outside of fullscreen, any browser works well!

BUG FIXES
- 10/08/2024 :bird: i couldn't sleep knowing there were GAME BREAKING BUGS and ACCESSIBILITY ISSUES so i:
- Changed up the pathfinding for the tamed Dougs; they should now always be able to get to you when attacking bosses, even if they're stuck somewhere
- Fixed the UI scaling on every scene because it was game-breakingly broken AF on mobile
- Minor tweaks to hitboxes/speed to assist in squashing the Game Breaking Bugs
- Added in a couple alternate keys for the pause menu bc 'esc' conflicts with browser exiting fullscreen button lmao
- 10/09/2024 :bird: I noticed while playtesting on mobile that you can still rarely get softlocked, for unknown Godot physics engine reasons, so I:
- Added in a "get unstuck" button that shows up in said situations. Can also be used to skip waiting on the Dougs to catch up to you if you're impatient and catch the button in time.
- Also added a line to automatically enter fullscreen on mobile, due to LDjam's embed being atrocious on mobile (but after letting the embed update, it doesn't seem to work... so I guess just play on itch.io if you're on mobile lol)
- Also also fixed the pause menu, which I broke while trying to fix mobile fullscreen lol, Godot engine has some weeeird bugs...
- 10/11/2024 :bird: Comments found random obscure gamebreaking bug so it's fixing time!
- It seems to be a random-ass floating point error so I mostly added 50000 babyproofing statements and gatekeeping variables to prevent problem code from running unwantedly.
- I also added a version "number" to the options menu so I can more easily check if the embed updated lmao
- after seeing it on stream: fixed the 'help i'm stuck button' not going away after being used

Some feedback
- I had fun playing yours, the voice acting really added to the experience. Did you record this yourself? With some filters sprinkled in?
- it was a bit unclear what was part of the background, and what were obstacles
- the music really adds to the vibes of this game
(Speaking of, @dhim I did a patch! You should be able to get past Doug 256 now :smile_cat: )
In response to the feedback:
- I'm still working on filling out the credit info, but I and @shreemp both did the voice acting! He voiced Doug (except in the intro where I forgot to ask him for a howl so I did one myself, and I accidentally made foley that sounded like dog sniffing anyway lol) and I voiced Frank. No filters on anything, except in service of the foley (tried to make the howl sound like it was 'shrinking', and pitch-down is what made the snuffling noises lol)
- Most things with thick outlines were obstacles, the collision is just a bit wacky. I did try to line up the world borders with the background's hedge though, although I think I got the positioning slightly off. I drew my level design on top of the background which covered it up
- Riiight? I came up with a small little tune and just passed the BeepBox over to shreemp while I worked on implementing the voiceovers, he really nailed the Halloween vibes I was going for!
Yep, that little bug got fixed indeed, I played and got past that once. Mine looked like it froze, but sound continued and all the ones walking free came to me and poofed to then let me walk.
Oh, I played on my mobile! Thank you, I wanted to do feedback on my phone too.
I did notice sometimes a +1 was not picked up no matter how often I walked over it. But sometimes when I returned later they did work. What I also noticed if I want to walk alongside the edges I need to take a tiny bit of distance or the auto moving stops.
Those massive ones with the big ass numbers totally put me in the right state of mind- Eep! Need more numbers!
I'm glad you were able to play on mobile! Good thing I fixed up the GUI bugs before you got to our game haha, I always try to design with mobile in mind even if sometimes Godot doesn't play nice. I'm assuming you played it on Itch.io since ldjam's mobile view seems pretty bad, at least on my phone. Note to self in the future to design all my LD game interfaces to be left-heavy since the buttons on the right keep getting cut off
Yeah, I had a hard time with making hitboxes that made sense, it gets easier when the swords are bigger though! I tried to line up the world border with the background hedge but it's slightly misaligned so it does just make you stop walking lol.
I'm glad the big number bosses did their job! :joy_cat:
The simple way to win by numbers reminds me of some very eye-catching ads.
Unfortunately, the game seems to freeze in the middle of the game.
Overall, a good game.
@kultuk I'm glad you liked it :smile_cat:
@futaibu I'm glad you were enjoying it! Could you tell me more about what happened with the freezing in the middle? I never encountered it being frozen, though there is a bug that I added a "help I'm stuck" button for.
Overall great game !
By the way, Nice game concept, liked it. Took a while to get used to the controls but after that enjoyed playing it.
Edit: I think I fixed it. The engine sometimes introduces floating point errors that I thought I had patched out from previous similar bugs, but you found a brand new area they could be triggered lol!
Soo, I beat the game twice.
The first time I chose to clear the right side first (as intended, I guess), enter the gnome-looking monster's mouth, watched my ATK fall down to 1, and then cleared the left side till I got to the big guy.
The second time, I took a different approach. Since I knew - thanks to my ATK falling to 1 during the first finished run - that there were enough Dougs on the other side to beat the big one, I immediately went over there completely ignoring the right side of the map. Since Doug is still small enough, he could easily get over there without being stuck. It worked. Sooo, yeah, that's how I beat it the second time.

(that's from the second successfull run)
Since I really loved the music (which is very appropriate for spooky season), I really did not mind spending a bit more time on this at all :)
The voice acting was great, as well!

I had a lot of fun <3
This is a pretty interesting take on the snake-like genre! :snake:
I wish the map was maybe a little smaller and it was easier to find enemies that would ANNIHILATE me at the beginning, but once I found a good path, it was smooth sailing

Enjoy!
I like the premise of this game being like "number snake", but some of the collision detection felt a bit off to me and it seemed easy to accidentally lose all your lives very quickly. I definitely think the idea here has potential though, it's a really interesting concept.
I love the voice acting and intro cutscene so much, and there's a lot of little details you put in here that really add to the experience! Well done.
