Tiny Galaxies by Gabriel Chan

Pixie universe is BACK!!
Hooray! Tiny creatures just like me are out there! How can I make friends with them? Maybe I could invite them aboard my fancy spaceship for a cup of tea… Oh no! They don’t seem very friendly to me D:
How to play:
- WASD keys to move Pixie around
- Left clicking will send out a claw shot
- Catch these tiny creatures while dodging their attacks to survive for as long as you can
- Catching them will add to your score
- Surviving will also add to your score
- Catching 3 of the same will give Pixie's ship special upgrades but be careful, Pixie has limited slots
- or shoot for the rainbow hint hint
Upgrade your ship: - Chicken → score multiplier - Bunny → claw reach length - Frog → claw shooting speed - Squid → invulnerability duration - Crab → projectile blocking - Hippo → extra life - Shark → movespeed

The longer you live, the more friends you can gather on your ship—even if some are not always approachable.
How many achievements can you unlock along the way? What's the highest score you can reach? Let us know!
Bug fix log: 2024-10-07 10:24PM Hard mode achievements are now unlockable (previously inaccessible)

I definitively want to add that to a future game
Edit: Oooo I had not seen the creature get all snuck in the spaceship with you! That's adorable!
@frontiersend Unfortunately there may still be a couple UI scaling issues, playing in fullscreen should fix it! Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
I have been accepted into the leaderboard!
I absolutely love this — cute adorable little creatures, awesome music, and of course... space chaos! ((PS, my kids are now hooked too haha))
EDIT:
....My son took 2nd place and now there's a war in my house. Thank you in a good way. LOL

The one tiny nitpick I have is that the popup that tells you what upgrades when you collect three of the same item is a bit too far out of my peripheral vision, which means I mostly missed it once the game gets more hectic and chaotic. That is such a small nitpick though that I decided to not give you a point penalty for that.
I simply love this game. Great job all around :D
@sviborg @initialposition @smielke @yoav-kagan @jesse-martin @yuvonvith @kirass Thank you for your kind words!
i like how the game is like a space version of Gold Miner with cute creatures. did take me by surprise that the creatures are attacking me-- i thought we were friends! ;(
but overall i love the game. good work!
OK BUT REAL TALK NO ONE IS BALANCING THIS GAME:
1. WHO IS CATCHING THESE FROGS LIKE THESE LITTLE JUMPERS JUST ZOOM AROUND THE MAP AT LIGHT SPEED AND THEN THEY STICK THEIR TONGUE OUT AND YOU DEAD GG
2. HIPPOS JUST NOT SHOWING UP FOR FUN LIKE PLEASEEEEEEE JUST SPAWN MORE
3. CLAW SPEED TOO SLOW NO ONES WAITING 603415801 YEARS FOR IT TO COME BACK
4. LEADER BOARD BROKEN I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF IM FIRST OR DEAD LAST
5. QA TEAM AFK (JK I LOVE U GUYS)

The different behaviours of the enemies are cool and unique. That said, ?/!#*!ing frogs hahaha I hate them, team Octopus here ! The only few improvements points I would say besides the difficulty curve above-mentionned, are making it clear what are the upgrades we unlock, because I often felt it was useless, and letting me move when I launch my grappling. Other than that, congrats team for this awesome game.
Words are unnecessary. I want to be allowed to play longer. I was given a rating very quickly, apparently, the ship ran out of space. BUT I CAN'T HELP BUT TAKE these... these... they are beautiful.
Your game in my heart.
Okay, so first of all, the difficulty. I feel like I reached a point of "unsustainability" with every run I had, where I mentally gave up due to the density of objects on screen. I started trying to track "hippos gained per hits taken" but once the screen is so flooded with objects, there's no possible way to collect *anything* without taking hits.
Second, I love the upgrades. I love love love the upgrades, and the system in which you collect them. But you *need* to tell me what I just picked up every time I get one. The message that tells you what the upgrade is needs to stay on screen longer too. There's a large handful of creature types, each with their own perks, and I am not going to be able to remember all of them when I'm just starting out. If you say it just once, and never again, I'm doomed to forget it. Picking them up in the future could be beneficial, but if I don't know what I get out of it, why would I go out of my way for it?
Speaking of, many of the upgrades are ill-explained. Claw Durability? What does that do? How much does each squid increase the invulnerability? If you have stats like this, you cannot keep them hidden from the player. You even have an achievement for reaching certain thresholds with these stats, but if they aren't visible to the player, how could one know if they are close to an achievement? Additionally, with the difficulty of the game, I have no idea how possible some of those achievements even are.
By the way, having achievements like this is awesome. I seriously applaud this game. And a leaderboard?! wow! It's very impressive! But there's such a strong juxtaposition from the incredible achievements / leaderboard systems to the lack of information while playing the game. In my final run, which I think scored 2nd on the leaderboard, I completely ignored squids, rabbits, and crabs because I don't think those helped me at all. Perhaps they do, but with the information I was given, it felt advantageous to ignore them.
And god dang it, those frogs can appear on screen and hit you within times way faster than one could react, and that just feels bad. I don't know if the solution is to zoom the screen out, or have some sort of "radar" to indicates where off screen enemies are, but there needs to be something done about enemies that can zip on screen, smack you, and then zip off screen within a moment's notice.
All of this to say, I had a lot of fun, and it's the little things that make me want more from this. It's a darn near perfect jam game.
I recorded myself playing the game to deliver maximum feedback. I seriously hope this video helps out.

This is really impressive for a jam game that did a leaderboard and achievement function!!!
Two suggestions : I haven't tried (maybe that's already possible), but I think the game would be great to play on gamepad (with a dual stick mecanics). Also it would be cool to be able to move while the graple is shot.
Well done !
